It was still a great performance. Loved the Tuba/Euph duet (heard some Mahler). They have a very strong sound per usual but I expected more after their wonderful show last year. They have a good chance at making a comeback in this area and possibly state. They did not get the results they used to last year at State and GN but this show has the potential to do great. Now for Lone Star. HOLY CRAP, they opened the show right away with some loud sustains across the field. Very good work by winds and perc. Visually it is not the most interesting so far but I find it cool they got some of their props finished in August. Their second movement sounds a lot similar to 2024 but I am not going to be nitpicky and judge it. Although I prefer their opener from last year so far. The woodwinds are playing great as usual. Now for Emerson, this is something new... definietly need to see it after some more work but I love the production so far. The theme has potential to go so far. Could not find much to comment on for this. Now for Melissa, WOW this is not the same program from last year. They have so much more improvment from last year. Although I saw some visual discrepancies, the opener was pretty and the second movement was pretty cool musically and visually. I wonder if that M stands for Melissa. They are already so much better and I cant wait to see the full production! From what I could tell, I think Argyle's opener is supposed to be based on Crown's 2010 opener. In that aspect, it's pretty similar to the source material, so I don't think that was a decision on their part in terms of design. TromboneGuy and glyde 2

Apparently their in the process of changing the opener visually by a pretty big amount so excited for that. I've also heard that Emerson was somewhat rough but had a pretty new theme, and does Melissa sound that good to where they could be a finalist? I've heard some things in the past from their band members about how the staff doesn't take contests too seriously, but it sounds like they could be turning it around. You're right about Lone Star... I'll see if i can get something on Emerson.... I work with someone who has a kid in the band.. glyde and cheesecurd21 2

For Emerson's performance I was shown by a friend and do not have a recording. But Melissa's should be on youtube on their livestream against Don Bosco. I have noticed they are one of the best pep bands in Texas but their show this year is amazing. They are so much louder and powerful although I think I heard some noises from a trombone. The show kind of reminds me of CTJ 2017 if you have seen it. I can see them making finals as well as Emerson. Emerson did have a rough run I believe they can get the upper hand soon before competition season. As for the theme it is way more abstract yet simple compared to Lone Stars or Argyle's. They can do a million times better than kinetic playground! cheesecurd21 1

I heard the first two movements of Emerson and they sound fantastic, but I’m not yet a huge fan of the music compared to last year. It definitely goes well with theme, and I do believe they will have a great season, just gotta let it grow on me some

If I may be real, Lone Star's opener last year was also based on Crown 2010. All three shows had Mahler in thier source material. If you listen to the mellos, you can hear the similarity to The Other Side. I guess Argyle saw the success it brought to the Frisco powerhouse and wanted to implement it. OGFISD99 1

Pretty solid visually, and they have a nice sound, although not very powerful like Lone Star and Argyle. Very, very different from last year and I also think this could do really well for them. Few stick-outs from a mello and baritone in the opener, and some somewhat major timing issues but aside from that should shape up really nicely! I definitely have them now up in finals ahead of Heritage and Liberty. Tubalord11, glyde and SharksAreCool 3

jamminsalmon_ Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 saw the colony v wakeland halftime last night and both shows are super impressive, I can not post any of the runs due to privacy reasons just know that both bands are cooking 👀 glyde 1
EmersonMavbandfan101 Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 I am a part of the emerson band and played Reedy this past Thursday. And OMG!!... Their band sounds and looks so goooood! If you think their crown opener was good and loud last year... well wait until you hear their opener this year. They have made so much improvement, and I wouldn't be surprised if they placed around 3rd at area this year. They are such a dark horse band TrumpetLord and Marchingbandlover 2

Either way, I think LS and Argyle are already confirmed top 3 and Reedy and Emerson have very slim chances of top 4 but they'll have to be above North, LT and possibly Walnut. Not impossible for either but difficult. glyde and FullRetreat 2

Last year their music was great maybe top 3 in my opinion. It was there visuals that lacked and weren't really impressive. Although we'll see with how their new director will lead them because I hear he is very visual heavy. TrumpetLord 1

I saw some clips from Reedy last thursday I believe it was. They did look very solid, and had some pretty promising music. Nothing too out of the blue from what I saw, but by no means counting them out. In terms of music arrangement/selections/design very good however in terms of brass/ww/perc not quite in top 3.
glyde Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 Reedy is definetly one of the main dark horses in this contest. Last years production was great although I wonder how they will place this year. I hope they place higher, my guess as of right now is 4-6. Also where can I see a recording if it is public? 14 minutes ago, cheesecurd21 said: I saw some clips from Reedy last thursday I believe it was. flamingo123 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Saw reedys show first football game they had. Cool design/theme but idk if it’s as strong as last years show. Seems like a lot of faster marching? Idk we will see. Looking a bit better visually but seems like they are a little weaker musically. But then again they did have like 4.5 minutes of there show on the field and it was the first football game so we will see!

Memorial*/The Colony*/Maybe Liberty* -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note that I have not seen a few of these programs and will likely update this by the time October rolls around. But my main favorites this year are LT Emerson and Melissa. I would add Wakeland but I want them to medal at state at this year. They deserved it last year.
