Michelle Oros!! yea we won 1st in our class and Best percussion Cy Falls got best guard but i heard from grice that they got 10th... clear lake got 2nd and brazoswood got 3rd o by the way this is martin

"""i didnt get to see it =( (i was the dm standing next to cy falls) but i was wondering what the prop with the trashcans and the wheels were..lol cece tried to explain it but..lol "" (the_drum_Major)

lol the trash cans are paint buckets and wheels on top they suppose to represent the momentum and stuff but since the band before us blew out the circits our pit section had no power to operate the mics and electronics so we dint define Mvt. 1 power Mvt.2 Drive Mvt3 Impulse Mvt.4 Energy

I wrote this earlier this afternoon on the BOA Forums when I got home from the Regional....

----------

Just got home from Pearland and saw the following bands....

Oak Ridge H.S., TX - 12:45

Westfield H.S., TX - 1:00

Cypress Falls H.S., TX - 1:15

Ronald Reagan H.S., TX - 1:30

Sharyland H.S., TX - 1:45

Brenham H.S., TX - 2:00

Brazoswood H.S., TX - 2:15

I'll keep it brief since I have to be at work in about 15 minutes but....

Ronald Reagan was the best by far. Their execution (both musically/visually) and show was a level above everyone else. Westfield & Cypress Falls were struggling with their music. Clarity and intonation was a issue. Visually...both groups looked fine. Gotta give props to the Cypress Falls orchestra members...they sounded gorgeous! As for Brazoswood, I wouldn't be surprised if they placed above both Cypress Falls and Westfield. Not only were they cleaner but their sound was better. My surprise band....Sharyland. Great sounding group. I hope to see them in Finals.

That's all for now.

What huuuuuurts the most...was getting sooooo close...

OK, enough with the cheesy song moment, but seriously. We missed finals by ONE placement (not sure on the score though...BOA wouldn't tell us for some reason). I guess I'm hurt to be shut down like that, but I am a bit proud of us for doing better than we usually do in a contest outside of the Valley. Hopefully we won't have the same problems within the weeks to come and hopefully we will get another shot at state.

Congrats to all finalists at BOA Houston, I finally got to see some great bands that I hear about all the time. Great to finally see them for a change :D

I was very surprised with Sharyland since I had never heard of them. Pasadena Memorial was also very impressive. I had both bands making finals.

I was astounded by Reagan's visual. It was the cleanest and sharpest marching I've seen. But I thought their music could have used some work. It sounded dirty. And their new uniforms, WOW. I'm absolutely in love with those uniforms.

I really liked Churchill's music, and I had them winning the music caption, and reagan winning visual and GE, but maybe its just because I played Masquerade my sophomore year. I really liked their show theme, but the effect was ruined when the guard didn't wear the band uniforms at the beginning for finals. But that was totally understandable if you were there for prelims.

I was there all day at the top of the stands and on the 50 if anyone wants to know about any of the bands.

only bands that stuck outin my mind (keep in mind that I was only in the stands from about 3 till awards and didn't get to watch any finals bands)

(i think it was) Clear Lake- refelction show, not a big fan of the big shiny plates that are drifting about the field they were cool at the end but distracting the rest of the show. good music, nice little dance mirror dance break along with the the guard girls doing their mirror thing at the end of the ballad. overall a good show interesting ending

Judson- I'm a big fan of Elvis and this show; great music, pretty good drill and the shout section was incredibly awesome. it's a shame that the microphones weren't quite working during prelims but i hear they were good during finals. good show, nice sound (not to mention an incredibly attractive drum major that owes me a shirt) it was nice

Lamar Consolidated- I never thought it would happen but this was a show about electronic music (i know bands do it all the time, but i've never seen a show just flat out say "we're going to use alot of synth") not one of my favorite shows, honestly, there wasn't much playing from the band. for being such a pit heavy show you would think the pit would go a little more wild while playing, they dind't seem to into it

Hidalgo- I didn't think I would like a show abotu the Incrediblyes, but WOW that was good stuff. The low brass soli was well done and quite impressive

Churchill- I'm not going to lie, I didn't pay attention to anything other than the guard. (and their little wardrobe malfunction) it was windy, so they weren't as clean as they usually are, but it was still good stuff

(i'm no good at this review stuff)

LOL, thanks for the support manuel. The mic thing in prelims KILLED but we fixed it and jumped up a few places in finals (apparently, we were 10th after prelims - wow!). and chrissy owes you a shirt just like you owe her a shirt! :-P

BRAZOSWOOD was awesome too! Loved yall's show... a crowd favorite, i must say.

Yeah the mics not working totally detracted from the show. I didn't even have you all making finals on my list.. but after I saw your finals performance... it was about 50 times more awesome and totally deserved to be in finals. One of my favorite shows of the night. nice job!

Thanks, it was definately 50 times better - really glad we got the oppurtunity to do it again.

I can give a review for the little bit I got to see...

Reagan: CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Great pre-show, everyone was saying "why are they using a met for their pre-show?" and then Dan Potter came in as if he was given a cue by the drum major!

Mathematically figuring out what tempo they needed to go at to time the exact second he would speak at - genius! Show was great - seems a little similair to what I see from them every year, but, hey - it's consistently outstanding! If it ain't broke...

Westfield: is back. I was FLOORED by this performance. First of all, I immediately melted on those bleachers at the piano opening. Just incredible. That band has something really special going on. Woodwinds had such a colorful and vibrant sound, and the marching was magnificent as always. I like their new uniform as much as I like their old ones - a lot! Great work, guys.

Churchill: So here's the story. The show is "Deception of Perception" and one of the main tricks is the colorguard marching in band uniforms with instruments and then getting on these giant platforms and stripping off the uniforms to reveal their guard attire. Sweet, right? Except, in prelims, one girl accidentally pulled off her guard pants too. Forgivable, as seen by the scoring after prelims. However, according to people in the stands, they scratched that all together for Finals, and just had the colorguard march with the horns but without the uniforms. It came off as odd and confusing to most of the audience who wasn't their for prelims. Sorta sucked that that happened in prelims, but changing it for Finals certainly couldn't have helped their score. However, I'm sure it was a director decision, and probably the safest possible one for all those guard members to protect themselves from anything else happening to make it worse. Just sort of a dissappointing thing that I know will be fixed before too long. I'm all for their show, though - exciting and challenging music that they're approaching super awesome with a consistently fantastic guard.

Brazoswood: Excellent job, overall solid show. Loved the guard's wordrobe surpises - each movement sort of had a color theme, made very obvious by solid tarps pulled out at the opening of each one, and by the guard magically appearing with a different color on their outfit. A consistent finalist and consistently sweet band, their high placement certainly wasn't "OUT OF THE BLUE" (I am so, soooo sorry about that pun. It killed.)

Clear Brook: I had never really heard or seen Clear Brook before, and I must say, I am totally the president of their fan club now. RITE of SPRING? awesome. good use of the props, too. Cool triangle tarp + pillars in the middle of the field that create awesome effects visually + incredible ensemble balance for outside = SWEETNESS :-) You definately got me wanting to go play some Nelhybel or Holst... yay concert band masterpieces sounding awesome EVEN while marching! Great work.

Of course I'm from Judson, and that would be stupid for me to review my own band. Who wants to read that?

Didn't get to see anyone else very well, I was running around all over the place. Someone else is gonna have to review the first half of the show, sorry. :-)

SERIOUSLY, amazing performances by all - I've heard terrific things about the other bands, and I'm sure they're true!
