  1. In prelims i was extremely impressed by L.D. Bell's show. I absolutely loved it. Performing that show would be so much fun In Finals, I didn't get the same effect. I already knew what was going to happen, so it just wasn't as exciting. I thought General Effect was definitely going to be theirs after watching them in prelims. We went insane when we won it instead. My favorite show that I saw in finals was Marcus. I could not get over how amazing their ensemble sound was. They sounded like a Wind Ensemble was sitting behind the pit playing. The crab stepping and visuals were so effective, and the sea horse race was so awesome. congrats to everyone!
  2. what one person says doesn't represent the entire band being mad. i don't think anyone is complaining. we just know how inconsistent UIL judging is.
  3. He's not trying to make himself feel better. College Park is amazing. I see nothing wrong with brian asking what people think. a 2-year old program needs somewhere to grow from. and it gives all of us something to discuss. I was very surprised with you guys, people at twh were saying you guys weren't doing well at all this year.. and I was shocked when I saw you guys at boa houston. I expect big things from college park in a few years.
  4. College Park is the new high school that opened last year in the woodlands
  5. Yeah the mics not working totally detracted from the show. I didn't even have you all making finals on my list.. but after I saw your finals performance... it was about 50 times more awesome and totally deserved to be in finals. One of my favorite shows of the night. nice job!
  6. I was very surprised with Sharyland since I had never heard of them. Pasadena Memorial was also very impressive. I had both bands making finals. I was astounded by Reagan's visual. It was the cleanest and sharpest marching I've seen. But I thought their music could have used some work. It sounded dirty. And their new uniforms, WOW. I'm absolutely in love with those uniforms. I really liked Churchill's music, and I had them winning the music caption, and reagan winning visual and GE, but maybe its just because I played Masquerade my sophomore year. I really liked their show theme, but the effect was ruined when the guard didn't wear the band uniforms at the beginning for finals. But that was totally understandable if you were there for prelims. I was there all day at the top of the stands and on the 50 if anyone wants to know about any of the bands.
  7. the reason we (the woodlands) go on state years is because the district only allows us to take the entire band on out of state trips every two years.
  8. I'm either doing Concert Etude or the Haydn Concerto in Eb. most likely the 1st movement of the haydn and i'm doing the Canadian Brass arrangement of Fugue in G minor in a brass quintet.
  9. The Woodlands - "Competition" (2005) Has to be the hardest i've marched. The closer was pretty much.. like.. a continuous slide across the field. Went from like.. the 20 on side one to the 20 on side 2.. and then all the way back. roughly. and the ballad was all in double time.. except for one set before the big hit, and then the last set was in single time. hardest ballad i've ever marched.. And it was also double time sliding across the field from like.. the 15 yard line side 2 to like.. the 20 on side 1. horrible.
  10. Yesterday we got our chair test music, which is one of the other pieces we're playing So, we're playing J'ai
  11. I went to the Midwest Clinic 2 years ago. and this year we went to the western international band clinic midwest was definitely the best band trip ever. I enjoyed it more than nationals. because it was a smaller group so we had a lot more freedom. And i lovvveed the music we played.
  12. i forgot the corps.. but our director (twhs - mr. johnson) was in a drum corps in like '78. lol we had a clip of it in the senior slideshow last year. he had a trumpet solo and he was rockin' out while he played it was hilarious
  13. whoa vista ridge! I go to The Woodlands HS.. but one of my friends moved and goes to Vista Ridge.. Margie.. you might know her i think she's pit captain yah. but anyways We have concert band auditions starting tomorrow. it's a blind audition (the directors don't know who plays.. we are all assigned a letter.. and the directors sit behind a curtain and one person goes in at a time and plays) we play a portion of the freshmen cuts of each all-state etude.. 2 major scales, and a chromatic scale. then they'll post the results.. and you have two chances to challenge a player in the band above you. for example.. 3rd chair 2nd band could challenge 4th chair 1st band. stuff like that. then in January we have a chair test in each band. thats the procedure we use for placing all of us in concert bands.
  14. my freshman year.. in our opener we did a huge jazz run pass-through.. and a judge was stuck right in the middle. we turned around back field and jazz ran.. and when i turned around.. there was a judge right in the middle of the two blocks that were about to jazz run together. it was hilarious.
  15. i have to say brazoswood's music was amazing. No band came even close to Brazoswood in music. Except maybe Westfield, but Brazoswood's music had wayyy more technique and difficulty Brazoswood and Westfield were my two favorite shows of the night. and Oak Ridge's show was very entertaining; if it had been cleaner I might've have liked it more. But you can definitely tell ORHS has improved a lot from years past. Congrats! And I have to give props to Westfield because I have never seen a band be focused from the moment they get off the bus, stay focused and silent through-out warm-up, and remain silent walking to the stadium entrance to perform. (I was one of their band guides). I never believed it was possible for a group of at least 200 teenagers to stay quiet for that long, until I saw them. You guys are amazing.
  16. This is all I remember.. 1st - Westfield 2nd - Brazoswood 3rd - Leander 4th - Seguin 5th - Oak Ridge Music - Westfield Visual - Tie - Westfield/Seguin G.E. - Brazoswood
  17. we're playing that as our opener next year. its going to be kick ****.
