  1. Hi Danpod! What is up, gangsta? Hope you're doin good (hopefully you got to eat all the concessions you purchased at BOA and didn't have them stolen by ungrateful Judson DM's :-D ) When can we expect the next podcast/review?
  2. judson at Region UIL is on myspace video: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...eoid=1307470534
  3. ARGH! wish I could have seen finals. Bell SOUNDED magnificent (didn't get to see them, was down getting ready for retreat) and their drum majors are cool (so are reagans and hidalgos! Awesomeness!) Anyone planning on reviewing the whole show? I would cry from glee.
  4. I personally LOVE clear brook's show this year - I'm a huge fan of the "Rite Of Spring" and It was shockingly musical for marching - AND they didn't just park and play like many bands these days do (one of my pet peeves). REALLY REALLY enjoy them and Cedar Park this year.
  5. SFA? I thought they weren't going... I could go look, but it don't matter none- if they're going, they'll rock it, if not, they're awesome anyway. :-) I love me some SFA.
  6. Our show's way BOA this year,so we can't really complain - kinda sucks that it was the same guy, though. Also kinda appears that he never really listened to the music and sorta prejudged (original score by richard saucedo - i promise he wasn't joking!). But that's in the past now. All we can do is move on and knock em dead at BOA! Can't wait!
  7. DUDE I almost cried when that happened to ya'll... it made me almost feel a little better that we didn't make finals... that was so terrible. And embarrassing for the announcer - how do you do that? beyond me.
  8. Same here (came, warmed up, performed, loaded, left). I can tell you about the bands I have seen at football games and such... (Region XII) MacArthur - doing a show featuring some great richard saucedo music. They're doing a good job, made 12th at Houston BOA, so nice work! Reagan - saw them at Houston. Obviously, verrrry clean, similar to things they've done in the past, but the old mantra "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" has never been more applicable than for them at this show. Churchill - minor "wardrobe malfunction" issue in Houston aside, great music and drill. Colorguard is excellent as always. A consistently dominant force, this year is no exception. We saw Lee from the side during staging, and they seemed fine. Also, we saw Clemens during staging for our exhibition at the Judson hosted marching contest - they sounded excellent. I can't actually remember Roosevelt's or Madison's show right now, but we already played them and I don't remember any real problems. Should shape up to be an interesting area (especially with the severe level of redistricting).
  9. Thanks, it was definately 50 times better - really glad we got the oppurtunity to do it again. I can give a review for the little bit I got to see... Reagan: CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Great pre-show, everyone was saying "why are they using a met for their pre-show?" and then Dan Potter came in as if he was given a cue by the drum major! Mathematically figuring out what tempo they needed to go at to time the exact second he would speak at - genius! Show was great - seems a little similair to what I see from them every year, but, hey - it's consistently outstanding! If it ain't broke... Westfield: is back. I was FLOORED by this performance. First of all, I immediately melted on those bleachers at the piano opening. Just incredible. That band has something really special going on. Woodwinds had such a colorful and vibrant sound, and the marching was magnificent as always. I like their new uniform as much as I like their old ones - a lot! Great work, guys. Churchill: So here's the story. The show is "Deception of Perception" and one of the main tricks is the colorguard marching in band uniforms with instruments and then getting on these giant platforms and stripping off the uniforms to reveal their guard attire. Sweet, right? Except, in prelims, one girl accidentally pulled off her guard pants too. Forgivable, as seen by the scoring after prelims. However, according to people in the stands, they scratched that all together for Finals, and just had the colorguard march with the horns but without the uniforms. It came off as odd and confusing to most of the audience who wasn't their for prelims. Sorta sucked that that happened in prelims, but changing it for Finals certainly couldn't have helped their score. However, I'm sure it was a director decision, and probably the safest possible one for all those guard members to protect themselves from anything else happening to make it worse. Just sort of a dissappointing thing that I know will be fixed before too long. I'm all for their show, though - exciting and challenging music that they're approaching super awesome with a consistently fantastic guard. Brazoswood: Excellent job, overall solid show. Loved the guard's wordrobe surpises - each movement sort of had a color theme, made very obvious by solid tarps pulled out at the opening of each one, and by the guard magically appearing with a different color on their outfit. A consistent finalist and consistently sweet band, their high placement certainly wasn't "OUT OF THE BLUE" (I am so, soooo sorry about that pun. It killed.) Clear Brook: I had never really heard or seen Clear Brook before, and I must say, I am totally the president of their fan club now. RITE of SPRING? awesome. good use of the props, too. Cool triangle tarp + pillars in the middle of the field that create awesome effects visually + incredible ensemble balance for outside = SWEETNESS :-) You definately got me wanting to go play some Nelhybel or Holst... yay concert band masterpieces sounding awesome EVEN while marching! Great work. Of course I'm from Judson, and that would be stupid for me to review my own band. Who wants to read that? Didn't get to see anyone else very well, I was running around all over the place. Someone else is gonna have to review the first half of the show, sorry. :-) SERIOUSLY, amazing performances by all - I've heard terrific things about the other bands, and I'm sure they're true! PJ
  10. LOL, thanks for the support manuel. The mic thing in prelims KILLED but we fixed it and jumped up a few places in finals (apparently, we were 10th after prelims - wow!). and chrissy owes you a shirt just like you owe her a shirt! :-P BRAZOSWOOD was awesome too! Loved yall's show... a crowd favorite, i must say.
  11. How about "Sleep" by Whitacre? Best Texas All-State Choir tryout piece ever! I don't love-a the Whitacre band stuff so much though, for band it has to be Tichelli (Blueshades rocks my world)
