Random. The bands draw for their Finals placement when they first arrive for prelims. If they advance to Finals, they already know their time and order.

It’s top 5 bottom 5. Bands do draw at prelims, but it determines when they go within their respective block.

Any thoughts on what that fourth spot might be?

Uhhhh tbh…no, I think it’s very close. Wylie East surprised me, Prosper felt cleaner than Wylie in finals (to me) but I honestly wouldnt be surprised with anything atp.

My thoughts in performance order before results released.

Braswell: sick show, sounded like a mini drum corps with all of the 2023 dci references, great show from braswell as always!

Mckinney Boyd: crazy opener and volume overall, soloists were great and the tuba pedal solo was so fun. tons of great clarity overall

Rock Hill: very cool show! brass was powerful and there was some challenging drill that was very well executed!

McKinney: Wow!! such an entertaining show to watch!! the trombone ballad soloist tone was beautiful. center marimba in the closer was going OFF on the cymbals XD amazing job Mckinney!

Wylie: what a show!!! very entertaining show with some really pristine moments. jazz sax and trumpet soloists in the ballad were beautiful, and WOW!! that closer hit was fantastic! Great job TWB!

Wylie East: yall that was genuinely jaw dropping. the ballad gave me head to toe chills, 3rd mvmt beast trombone feature was amazing, and the closer was so powerful. amazing job WE!!

Prosper: Amazing show prosper! great clarity all throughout, brass and woodwind power! (also some of the coolest unis ive seen all year)

Hebron: I mean come on. it’s hebron. brass was on point, heard some crazy high stuff from the lead trumpet(s) woodwinds in part 4 were on point and the perc break was very cool! amazing show hebron!

Marcus: if there’s one word to describe marcus, it would be Excellent. marcus is such a beautiful sounding program, and the timpani solo was so cool XD

Flower mound: show of the night hands down. the emotion and cleanliness were so evident. the brass feature was so sick and the “new” closer was so loud and enjoyable. fantastic job flomo!!

My personal top 5(based off my opinion)

1. Flomo

2.Hebron

3.Wylie East

4.Wylie

5.Marcus

Very eager to see results!!!

First time seeing a full performance from Flower Mound, and yeah, I get it. Immaculately designed and performed. Agree with VBF that the ordinals seemed to reflect what I saw as well, although as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I thought Marcus could have ended up with percussion. Overall, FloMo beats Hebron narrowly but decisively again, and I don’t see that changing for the remaining few weeks here in Texas.

As a brief aside, I appreciate the contrast between Hebron, who seem to pour their resources more into performance, and FloMo, who does the same with effect. However, Hebron really needs to be able to stake more of a claim to percussion. Because they aren’t touching flower mound visually. I don’t understand why they then handicap themselves by learning a “band show” and a “drum show,” when as far as I know, the majority of the top drumlines in Texas choose to beef up the band book and simply perform it ‘a la carte’ at whatever drumline contests they choose to attend.

Does anyone have scores or do they get posted? I can't ever remember if they are made public.

PS. I don't get the love fest for Prosper. So much park and bark. I feel there was actually more this year than in previous years. Won't say which band, but they were in the top 4. They had a ww feature in their final movement and were mostly stationary for 15 seconds. Followed by a brass feature that was mostly stationary for more than 10 seconds.

Comments on tonight. What a evening. This contest is always brutal and I am still surprised. Within my predictions, I had Wylie East as first out, and tonight they showed up in a big way, and rightfully so, they deserved top 5. I think the top 4 here are completely correct. From watching these shows, from a strict run-to-run perspective, this was the correct ranking / state qualification. However, Hebron vs FM will sometimes confuse me since I believe Hebron from a UIL perspective should've won this, but inversely FM will dominate San Antonio and Indy for the rest of the BOA circuit. Wylie East, I was not familiar with your game! This might be an emerging band to watch out for, because this is the one band that is "outside of their projected range" from my perspective. Prosper had a good run, I think this is the correct band for spot number 4, although from a design perspective it is not my favorite show. As far as Mckinney goes, music is good, but there is something missing and I am not sure what it is yet, before tonight I was certain this was top 5.

Congratz to everyone in area J, the finalists, and the state qualifiers. Always a super entertaining one to watch, and see yall at state!

Wylie was definitely robbed. I personally like Wylie’s show more than Wylie East. Also, was not expecting PESH to not make finals. Prosper sweeping 4th kinda shocked me. The Sousas had some crazy out of step time in the back.

Dont forget how every other band had out of time marching too, not just prosper.
