If 30 bands qualify for area, we very well could, meaning cypress park, cypress ranch, and langham creek would maybe be “locks for finals”

also 6 STATE SPOTS 🥳🥳🥳

we see after region!!

I hope with the Addition of freeman and Dunham pointe HS in the coming years from cy-fair and Katy, 12 finalist spots and 6 state spots are possible.

Them getting 4th at Berry Contest and having 3/5 judges put them above James E. Taylor.

Katy also beat Taylor by getting 3rd in music after only a week of cleaning

I'm not going to lie these music judge ordinals are very confusing, Jordan music content > Bridgeland content?

One judge also put William B Travis' music content at 85 while the other put it at 59, two DRASTICALLY different scores.

I wouldn't take Berry results as end all be all, or even a great indicator for the season.

Just my opinion!

it’s like almost impossible. There are only 31 varsity 6A’s in the area which barely leaves any room for error.

he right!

and a lot of Houston ISD bands usually don’t attend area :(

Bridgeland's brass has historically been a weak link and the woodwinds outperform them. Last year state UIL finals, the woodwinds came in ahead of Pearland, Coppell, Reagan and TWHS. The brass lost to everyone but Cy Fair and Keller. And this year, the sounds coming from the brass section, particularly high brass, are weak, uncontrolled, and shrill. I'm not imagining it; the music scores this year have been a problem for us at each contest, with music being a factor at Webster, losing the music caption at Lone Star Preview, and losing one music judge at Berry. Unfortunately, it's not something that's easy to fix - you can't magically transform your brass section into a powerhouse overnight. It takes years and starts at the feeder middle schools. Bridgeland has established relationships now with the feeder schools and I'm hoping that translates to great things from the brass a few years down the line.

I think an exception is the percussion. Mr. Ngyuen has transformed that section into a beast, and now he works (part time?) at the feeder school, so by the time they are marching freshmen at BHS, they've already been trained for 3+ years by ex-phantom regiment member obsessed with winning.

I was mainly pointing out that Bridgeland's musical demand is much higher than Jordan's, unless I'm mistaken and Music Performance content is based on something different.

To me, the content is the demand of the music and of which bridgeland should have like a miles higher score in content than any other program at the comp.

Jordan is playing music thats in know in the band world to be famously hard. Its also knowen and they will get good points for doing it well.

Do you think there’s a chance that Cypress Woods could steal a caption from Bridgeland at UIL Area?

I don't remember which captions they do at Area, but I feel pretty good about Bridgeland taking home all but music (non-percussion). Cy Woods just makes great sounds.

From what I remember from my last 2 areas I don't think they do captions at area

My apologies, I should have worded that better, I meant maybe a music judge or two that woods could steal?

Bridgeland should be able to get their music more quality sounding and up to their visual rapidly as well they peak late season always.

Could we see 12 finalist?

Absolutely not - 0% chance of happening

There's 31 groups who can qualify for area, only 27 have CONSISTENTLY received 1's at region and advancement to Area, so unfortunately not gonna happen unless the judges decide to hand out 1's to everyone this year

Posted

1. Bridgeland

2. Cypress Woods

3. Cy-Fair

4. Seven Lakes

5. Cinco Ranch

6. Jordan

7. Tompkins

8. James E. Taylor

9. Katy

10. Cypress Ranch

--------------------------

11. Jersey Village

True, but I wasn’t expecting Mayde Creek to place ahead of them, then again, Mayde Creek has made some INCREDIBLE improvements.

I am not surprised to see Mayde Creek place where they placed.  This isn't the Mayde Creek band people think about.  They have REALLY evolved over the last few years and even so more than ever this season.  They COULD be a dark horse for finals.  They are playing the clean and clear UIL game really well.  Between Langham, JV, Cy-Park, Cy-Ranch, Mayde Creek, Paetow, Katy and a few others those final few finals spots will be VERY CLOSE.  Probably closer than ever.  It will be a game of inches.  I have never seen these bands this close before.
