There was no percussion judge, but there is a score for percussion that every music judge needs to fill up. The prelim breakdown was leaked and one music judge gave Cedar ridge percussion 8th in that caption, hope that makes sense.

Oh interesting, do you happen to have the prelims leak? I wanna see everyone's breakdowns for prelims :o or whatever is available of course.

This was leaked on the day of the contest, so it is not likely made up.

Gotcha, thanks! I feel like forging prelims breakdowns is a really weird thing for someone to do haha, I wouldn't have expected them to be fake.

Honestly, rather than debate the Area D finalists with each other, I'm much more interested in debating the strength of the Area D finalists as a whole compared to other Areas.

So I'm very interested to see how all the Area D finalists do at BOA San Antonio next week.  We'll get a good idea of how strong this Area is against the rest of the best.

C. Moon had some really interesting and bold picks, for the most part all the judges agreed except for C. Moon.

Yeah I definitely agree with you, cedar ridge has such strong percussion program yet couldn’t earn a spot in Moon’s ranking.

Might be a bit of a stretch but- does anyone happen to know if there's any score breakdowns like the leak from last year? It'd be interesting to compare them and see where some bands are at from last year.

Edit: nvm I found it lol

Reagan, Round Rock, and CTJ should be finalists. Of course, never say never. I'd imagine all 5 being top 25 in prelims. Area B is also very deep too.

Seeing some of these scores has me shook bc there’s no way some of these bands got a double digit score while the rest got triple digits…

whats wrong with that tho? 25 bands were there, some of them would definitely get triple digit score.

Well a triple digit score is expected by any band, because if you move the decimal over one place you’ll get a score that’s easier to comprehend bc it’s out of 100.

this is the lowest scores I’ve seen from this area, esp compared to last year where even the last place band had scores higher than 100 (or 10 out of 100)

ie this year Harker Heights got a visual score of 7.4 from one of the judges

7.4 is insanely low…

Then not to mention the score gap between San Antonio LEE and Bryan in visual judge 1 - 95 and 240

The scoring could be different now but looking at past area results you wouldn’t rlly see too many scores lower than 500, maybe 400 for some

OH! I see what you meant! I thought you were talking about the ranking points. Yeah, that is a bit shocking in terms of how harsh the scores may be. Thanks for the explanation!

I don't know how many points each judge is working with today in each category to determine the cumulative score. It used to total to 1000. How can anyone manage with any accuracy a range of points that big? It appears from this sheet that this is still the range. I have always thought that a wide range like this is somewhat arbitrary as a 675 and a 702 don't really reflect any real measure of a band's performance. With a much smaller point range like BOA, it is much easier to understand the difference between a score of 16.5 and 17.5. And it is certainly conceivable to think that a judge has a standard with the BOA scoring that a band can be compared to, to determine their score.

That’s why I always moved the decimal over to make it a score out of 100 rather than 1000, it’s easier to comprehend

that way the 675 and 702 from your post would become 67.5 and 70.2

Each judge has 1000 points cumulatively so a visual score of 74 like Harker Heights was given in this example is insanely low because it’s a 74/1000 or 7.4/100

Still way too many points to have a standard to work with.

Not really.  It's just two different scales for the same range.  It's like comparing 10 one dollar bills and 100 dimes and saying one is worth more than the other.
