Help us Improve TxBands.com
TxRaider13 replied to Dynasty's topic in TxBands Site Suggestions, Problems, and Questions
1) Former Student/Future Teacher 2) Forums/Blogs/Love seeing how wrong I am on predictions 3) Youtube Channel would be great..I like the Twitter 4) I have a few ideas but don't want to take over the post so I think an email would be better to give my ideas. 5) Not at this time...Check back later 6) I always bring the site up to all the people at school -
Amazing how one topic opens up the room with all of these haters/lovers. I have no dog in this fight, I simply sat my butt down at the Alamo Dome and enjoyed the best contest the State has offered in a long time. I enjoyed every school from 1st place Marcus to 36th place Americas HS from El Paso. Every school played, or marched something I enjoyed. And yet, people just can't accept the results, they have to argue that school x was better than school z....Somethings never change

No, actually you get recovery points if you get up and correct the mistake quickly..Don't feel bad either, people fall/collide all the time
-
And now the TxBands forums will blow up with theory, and hate for allowing a former director to judge a contest his band was in
-
I can't answer the clock problems, but I know a little about the rest. You can have a director conduct, theirs no rule against that. Students can pick up flags after use on the field, I think most of the schools at area C do this, and I know for fact Poteet and Forney do this. Umm a parent/director helping out on electronics is something I don't know to much about, but I do know the student has to be the one working it but I don't think it is a penalty when a parent tells them when, Berkner did this at Area and I thought the same thing. Their is always some one marching and not playing, maybe the drummer lost his sticks at a bad time, and some wind players will look like their playing, but really aren't. Ex: At Poteet we had woodwinds marching brass b/c people got hurt/sick/failed. Sorry I don't know the clock rules and problems, but if I had to guess I bet they have a person in the press box who actually keeps time just incase the stadium clock doesn't work

I think it's a little crazy that Reagan didn't make finals.. I really enjoyed their show, and it helps sway my vote when I was sitting next to band parents from Reagan and they were being super nice to us. -
Coppell High School 2010
TxRaider13 replied to Cfam's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
No...If they had Finals at Area I think results would have been different. Besides Area doesn't mean anything at state, judges don't know that Coppell was 4th and Rowlett 1st. (Doesn't include Scott Coulson who sees these schools every year) -
I agree, but thats b/c I'm not a prop person. I like the guard and music telling the story or painting the pictures, not some over sized prop that shrinks the field, but I guess if it works why change. But I think the days of no props, and always moving/playing/changing forms is going away. But thats me, I like the old school always changing forms while playing

All you needed was something Italian and you had food from around the world...MMMMM Italian Meat Balls

And now I finally understand the tie breaking system
-
So how did they break the tie?

Nothing better than 5A state finals, it's the only time a band has to be perfect to make finals, and better than perfect to come home a champion..Gotta Love seeing kids leave it all on the field for an art that they love. Yes I put this in the live blog as well!! I loved this entire week here in the Alamo City...Doesn't get any better than this

It was the first time for a medal...We discussed 3A on our own and both said, canton was a medal lock...well goes to show that judges don't think the same way..I liked all the bands in class 3A it was cool to see 3A state for the first time since 2004

My how things have changed. We didn't as many credits to graduate, and colleges weren't as rough as they have got...But it was still great to be walking out of school at 1:00pm when school was over at 3:45pm...We had a good bunch that did band and all AP classes, but they had to really balance their time.

The scores from prelims and finals were way different, but I get what you're saying. I'm not a judge, but the eyeball test and ear test said, not 5th..But hey it is what it is -

Thats what makes this fun, guessing who is going to be where, and then out of the blue, a dark horse comes and slides in....Ahhh 4A is so much fun, because you just don't know...IDK how many people put forney in the top 10 last year..Aside from those of us that see them at Region/Area, and Friday nights when your brother sister square off -
2010 Centennial Marching Festival
TxRaider13 replied to TxRaider13's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
They are 75% freshman and sophmores, and the woodwinds are the power this year. Next year the brass section will be stronger and a year older. Even with this so called lack of power, they still play and march well, and I know you mean what you put well. They will be stronger with more of a brassy sound next year. Trust me, they're my alarm clock...I live across the street -
Wooo, Go fighting BillyGoats!!!!!!
