Of course the lines are going to change. Bands constantly changing with incoming and outgoing classes. So saying you will list bands as soon as you find out if the lines have changed is just a way to avoid the question possed to you. There is not a single band in Area A that would keep an Area D band out of finals. Thats not a bias statement either. The quality in Area D (as a whole) could very well be the best in the state.

Area D is going to be outrageous in 2011. D is usually one of the top tier areas in the state but this next year is going to be a real killer diller. I want to see 7 go to state just so I can see this line up representing Area D: Cedar Park Vista Ridge Connally Hendrickson Dripping Springs Hays Vandegrift Area D domination at state next year

Cedar Ridge-They are a first year school out of Round Rock that march only Sophmores and Freshman. They have a show that features a good amount of synth. Personally I don't like the use of alot of electric instruments in marching band, but these kids have a great ensemble sound. I wish they could of been featured more. I'm looking forward to seeing this program in the future. Cypress Woods-Nice full sounding band. Their show was very technical and they pulled it off very well. With equally as clean marching they put a very impressive show on the field. Hebron-I like bands that put very technically challenging music on the field. Hebron put difficult music on the field and the students pulled it off very well. I really enjoyed their show. Bowie-Bowie consistantly puts some of the best quality show design on the field every year. They are always a heavy hitter in Area D and at State. Their show this year was no different. Bowie has really found their formula and is always a pleasure to watch perform. Anderson-They really surprised me this year. Great music with well executed drill. Fantastic color guard that played off the music very well. Dripping Springs-This program has grown so much in the last 6 years its crazy, and this years show was the most challenging show they have ever attempted. It was also the best executed show they have ever done. Sam Houston State was a great performance. This program does nothing but get better. And thus I arrive at... Marcus-THREE TIME CONSECUTIVE 5A STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPION. Thats all that needs to be said really because you don't get there for no reason. Bravo.

Here are the top 4 scores from the night: 1.Dripping Springs 94.85 2.Cypress Woods 90.80 3.Clements 89.98 4.Langham Creek 89.00 -
How is the competition in 5a "tougher"? just cause the bands are bigger and louder doesn't mean they are better. now don't get me wrong there are some very top notch programs in 5a but there are some 4a bands that could give them a run for their money. i'm just saying there is a lot of time between now and 4a state. a lot can change over the course of a year. so nothing is certain. CP may slaughter everyone like younglings, or they could get slaughtered themselves (though it is unlikely for the ladder to happen). again nothing is certain in the band world.

2010 UIL State

I think they only announce the top 3 because it gives the 1st place spot some mystery even though they count down to it. As oppose to a contest like Westlake where they count down from 10 to 1. Once you hear who made 2nd you know who is 1st. -

Back on track. Didn't Vista Ridge do a Planets show in 2008? -

Yeah we get it. You didn't like this show. Get over it. You don't have to belittle their show just because your a little moody. -

I do believe Langham Creek, Clements, Cy Fair, and Cinco Ranch will move onto state in that order. -
Area D Marching Contest

I wouldn't call Round Rock's show spectacular. Don't get me wrong they are very excellent players and marchers, but at Westlake their music was a little, for lack of a better term "dirty". In no way was their musical performance poor. The reason Round Rock beat Bowie was because of the other captions besides Music and Marching(which Bowie was first in. Round Rock being 2nd). Being 2nd in both music and marching is not a bad spot to be in. With a strong showing in the other captions(especially Percussion. Like seriously... WOW.) Round Rock was able to post a slightly higher total score than Bowie eventhough Bowie was first in music and marching. Bowie was not able to keep pace with Round Rock in the other captions thus Round Rock won. This leads me to believe Round Rock will not do as well as some people think they will at Area. They WILL go to state, but I don't think they will have one of the top spots. (Disclaimer: Not to be taken as bashing. Round Rock is a quality and classy program.) -

State Qualifiers in Order: 1.Bowie 2.Anderson 3.Westlake 4.Round Rock 5.Churchill 6.Akins Though I could also see Pflugerville sneaking in there. Its going to be a quality contest(as Area D always is). -
2010 UIL Regionals

Wow region 18 is stacked in 5a this year. At this point I can't see Bowie, Akins, Anderson, Westlake, or Pflugerville missing state. Not to mention all the other power houses in Area D. I think we are going to see another Area D dominated state this year. -

Yeah I put this post up then went and read about Pflugerville making a great showing at BOA Arlington. Replacing them with Anderson is spot on. -

Crazy Results

4a state last year was pretty wonky. The scores from prelims to finals were like night and day. I think Friendswood had something like a 9 in prelims, and Dripping Springs and Poteet were at 21 and 23. Then it balanced out a little more in finals. But I remember prelims being the most inconsistant score sheet I had ever seen. -

Does anyone know if Clements will be attending again? Their show last year was really well done. They had a great ensemble sound and I would like to see them again. What is Bowie's show this year? -
Wakeland-I saw these guys at state and they play extremely well. I saw their warm up and all I have to say is WOW. The dynamic contrast from Triple F to pp is amazing. They have great control of their instruments as an ensemble. Fantastic trumpet section. The musical selection was EPIC. Cedar Park-RAW POWER! Its all about that opening hit and the huge chord in the opener. These kids know how to take it to 11 but still play with a nice fat sound that doesnt go to far. Along with quality sounds in the ballad Cedar Park does some justice to Scheherezade. Dripping Springs-I'm not trying to be bias on this one but i have to say Dripping Springs' show design and music arrangement was stellar this year. The students pulled it off very well, with low brass sounds and the flowing woodwinds, trumpets and horns this show was just the perfect storm. Clements-I saw them at Westlake and they blew my mind. The whole show is really high energy and intense. Nice clean drill is complimented by good round sounds. Fantastic program. I had no idea who they were going into the contest. Now i know who Clements is. Hendrickson-Great program. Hendrickson has placed 5th in the past 3 state contests if im not mistaken so their doin something right. I enjoyed the complexities of their show this year. It was very abstract and they pulled it off well. Plus we know Hendrickson always brings the sound. L. D. Bell-Simply Epic.... thats all that needs to be said.

2009 state

Actually this is false. The Drum Major infact wouldnt let go of the trophy untill we got to the buses. There was no throwing involved i was literally the first one on the field to congradulate him. Also as Danpod has stated earlier they have covered so much ground in the past 3 years its crazy. Of cource they were excited. Im sure any other program would be just as pumped after winning a state championship. Hendrickson's display of class was greatly appreciated. Dripping Springs' and Hendrickson's relationship (from my experience) has been nothing but mutual respect for each other. Congrats to everyone at the state contest. It was a wonderful day which i enjoyed very much.
