  1. Wow, I hope were leaving Friday, because that would be a brutal performance after a 5-6 hour bus ride. I cant wait!! John Marshall's first BOA performance in so many years.
  2. True. Im already in what I like to call "Cleaning mode" on the first two. Last year I did bass clarinet instead of Tenor, and I wasn't this far in until November. Of course this could also mean im a better player . The third one has some awkward finger movements though. At least I find them weird.
  3. Well, update on this. Mr. Alan Perkins left us after about 2 weeks to go be an assistant at Edinburg North. He was replaced Mr. Matthew Seifert. He is an LSU grad and just came back from the air force band tenure of 7 years. Mr Seifert is also running the jazz band and has made the class very fun. He's teaching everyone theory and how to improve and has already provided me some great knowledge ill use for the future.
  4. I have a music theory question. I'm playing in a key where the F is sharped. There's a note that is a Natural, Sharped F. Meaning there is a natural sign then a sharp sign before the f note, kind of like a double flat. My thought is it does nothing, since the natural makes in an accidental, but then the sharp brings it back to the same key. Which gets me thinking, whats the point of the natural sign? And no im not thinking of a natural and sharp sign in front of two F's in the same measure, I mean they come before the exact same F.
  5. Not meaning to show you up, but I have some 16th runs at 164 bpm, so I know what you mean. Two of the runs are at a halt, but the last one is while moving an its not clean at all right now. I've played the runs on both Bass Clarinet and Tenor Sax, and its near impossible on the Bass Clarinet due to more pinky altering on the middle note break. During our first few performances, it was basically trading solo's between me and an alto because no one else was playing it. Thankfully more people are starting to get it. Hopefully this will probably be the biggest impact point of the show.
  6. ^I need another QB, but im not willing to give a WR for it. I only got one QB..... and he's at "Probable"........... and he's Carson Palmer. Ehh. If anyone needs a RB and willing to trade for a QB, check my team.
  7. Yeah, that's why I don't agree with that system. When I was a freshmen, I didn't want to march, I missed summer band and didn't march the show. And I blew off band in middle school. I wish I was kidding about this, but im not, I didn't even know my Bb scale coming into high school. I would have gotten zero points and be behind everyone, even though I became one of the stronger players and marchers the last 3 years of my school career; and have decided to major in Music Ed.
  8. Typically the hardest working person in the section IS the best marcher and player. I also don't believe in seniority. While yes it helps, it shouldn't be the deciding factor. So if one worked hard their freshmen year, and is a better marcher and player than any of the seniors or juniors, I believe they should get it. Of course that's also taking into account their attitude. I agree with your last sentence though
  9. I believe that a section leader should be the hardest working member of the section. Especially during those last thirty minutes of rehearsal where everyone wants to go home. If the section leader starts walking back to there spot lackadaisically, the section members will start doing the same. Leaders also need to find a balance of being assertive, yet not bringing the morale of the band member down. Morale is what I believe the most important key to the success of a band program. And there always needs to be people to bring it up.
  10. Unfortunately its really the only way to go. With it being marching season and all, many people would miss it.
  11. The day of should be fill it up.
  12. Lost to O'Connor 42 - 17. So that means we've lost to our arch rivals all 4 years I've attended Marshall. We've been outscored 91-27 this year. Ouch!
  13. I see.
  14. Does it have to be 10? If not, I think 7 is enough to be competitive.
  15. I'm in. I just went by my schools name, and mascot.
  16. I think you have to mail invites, since its a private league.
  17. Im in Newspaper. I thought coming into high school that I wanted to be a journalist. Boy was I wrong! I haven't quit because they need me, and the people in there are pretty cool.
  18. I hate the packers =). GO LIONS!...............stupid Lions always have to suck =( Anyways, Browns aren't a bad team. They were one game from the playoffs, and added some good talent during the off season. Good win for the Cowboys.
  19. Wow, someone should send that into ESPN. Sometimes they have high school clips on their top plays. Also, how much time was left in the game? You would think the play caller would have gone with 3 or 4 rushers, and a big secondary to prevent this kind of play.
  20. After a 0 - 42 spanking to SA MacArthur, we some how win 10 - 7 versus SA Churchill. Churchill's band sounded good. Although there still doing there fun show for now. District games start next week. We only have two non-district games per year.
  21. Wow, that's a lot of show for the second game. Were playing Churchill. And we will be doing a mass band with Churchill for the dance team piece. We did this last year with them, it was lots of fun.
  22. Wow. We lost 42 - 0 against SA MacArthur. In the 4 years I've been at Marshall I don't remember a defeat by more than 20 points.
  23. SA Southwest is actually a decent team. There ranked 6th in the San Antonio area.
  24. Great stuff. The self hype point is exactly why I will never tell anyone in my band about this site. I'm just to worried that they will ruin a reputation before we even get one. Also I'm a firm believer in using set backs, like not making state, finals ect. as motivation for next time.
