UIL should change how they do this. Using this year's senior class in the calculation is flawed. For example Vista Ridge's actual enrollment next year will be about 200 kids less than the snapshot, putting them in 5A

As far as Leander ISD only Leander HS is on the edge. They could end up on either side of the equation at 2263. Glenn is the only solidly 5A school now

Just giving you more background on Vista's show (it will likely make you cry more when you know the backstory) “Our Journey of Hope” is about the practice of folding 1,000 paper cranes in an effort to find inner peace and hope. It is based on the story of Sadako Sasaki, a victim of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Sasaki was diagnosed with leukemia and while in the hospital set herself a goal of folding 1,000 paper cranes. Different versions of the story have conflicting information as to whether she completed the task or not, with her brother saying she exceeded her goal, while another version says her friends completed them for her and buried her with them. The ballad, “Song of Hope”, is dedicated to Ryan Anthony, former principal trumpet of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and his organization Cancer Blows/The Ryan Anthony Foundation. Part of a larger work, the movement was originally called “Song”, but upon hearing it, Ryan asked if it could have a more uplifting ending and be titled “Song of Hope”. In 2012 Ryan Anthony was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a terminal and incurable form of cancer in the plasma cells of the blood and unfortunately passed away in June of 2020. The show is in four parts which could be summarized as Stillness, Rage, Hope, Conquering. Even the titles of the music chosen are apt to the experience. Part one (“Down in the River to Pray”): The show features a character who we call the “Hope” solo, a loose representation of Sasaki, but a girl on this journey. The show begins with having the idea to start the journey of folding 1,000 paper cranes with the soloist holding up a single sheet of unfolded paper. The wind musicians representing a path with a large unfolded piece of paper on the left side of the field towards a large completed crane that Hope soloist is going towards. The movement ends with her completing the first crane. Part two is all about rage. (Stephen Melillo’s “Without Warning”. A perfect title for a sudden and shocking diagnosis as well.) The soloist crushes her paper in frustration, overcome by rage, anxiety and frustration. Part three (“Song of Hope” by Peter Meechan): Our Hope soloist refocuses on her task, successfully completing more of the cranes and begins to share her sense of hope outwardly with others, moving around the field and culminating with her holding up one of the cranes while the entire wind section creates large wings behind her. Part four (“Thy Kingdom Come” by Jacob Remington. A piece featuring the hymn “How Great Thou Art”): A joyous celebration of overcoming or a celebration of life. Our soloist is smiling, moving around the whole field accompanied by the spirit of the crane. The show ends with cranes everywhere on the field, each musician holding up their own personal crane while more appear from the back and surround the field. The completion of the 1,000 cranes.

Since no one was hurt, and they performed so well, I think it's ok to make a little joke. Their opening song next year better be "Crazy Train."

This isn't BOA. Props are much less important for UIL.

UIL is trying to give more points towards music instead of visuals to help level the playing field where many feel you can "buy" a BOA championship.

Oh for sure, but the props are very whimsical and the music is not. They just don't seem to go together but Hebron's execution is amazing
