  1. What electronic issues happened with Cinco? I missed that performance.
  2. Felt so bad for those CyWoods kids, we super happy they advanced to State! It was the only time I was happy we were the first band of the day to perform. It was a looooooooong day of waiting and uncertainty, but at least our kids were back at school/home and dry.
  3. Heck, you could just look at the wackiness among Prelims, Finals, & captions at KMF and be confused. The only thing we can count on for sure is with 5 spots, 1-2 really good bands at a minimum will miss out on State this year.
  4. 2 - Non-Varsity 12 - 6A Varsity. (+15 Region 27 6A schools) 1 - 4A Varsity. 2 - 5A Varsity So, for Area I 6A there are 27 schools advancing for a total of 5 spots (as of this moment 🤣) if my math is correct.
  5. I’m a fan, with subjective opinions. Certainly not meaning to offend, I meant my comments to be complimentary of Jordan. They have certainly improved upon last season. That being said, the music is my biggest personal uncertainty with their show. As a person watching most of these schools in person this year or at the least on video, their music doesn’t have as many ā€œreach out and grab me big moments.ā€ The show is clean and well performed, and I think their success has been well deserved. But, I see most of the other contenders that have bigger musical ā€œmomentsā€ during their performances. Technically and scoring wise I’m no expert. I’m just giving my opinion from the stands on how it’s received. I love the heads, some people don’t. Everything is ā€œvery goodā€, I think they need at least one aspect to be great at Area. And it’s very possible. (I have not seen video of their performance yesterday, to compare to a week ago)
  6. I really hope this is the year Jordan makes it. Getting to State if a huge growing experience for an up and coming band. I just think they will be more 3-6 range IMHO. Their show is clean and pretty extreme on love/hate when watched, but it’s simpler than a lot of other Area schools and I think Area is where than can possibly catch up to them. They are on a few week high though and I’m sure that has built their confidence. 5 spots seems like a lock at this point, and JET proved they can put in a performance capable of top 6 against some great schools today. I wouldn’t sleep on them or Cinco slipping into the 5th spot from one of the schools we expect to make it. I’m rooting for Cinco just a smidge harder than Jordan because of them missing last year when we lost a State spot. Not ready for my final predictions until after Tuesday, but could this be the year we get 4 KISD State schools? It’s not the craziest possibility. My only prediction at this point is I think we will see a 2 3 split among the regions. Just that statement alone means a couple good bands are going to miss out.
  7. This season has seemed a little wonky for a lot of school with gaps in comps. Good luck tomorrow and next Saturday.
  8. I just hope Region contests get us at least 5 spots. 4 spots would be certain to leave a really good school on the outside looking in, and possibly someone we thought going in was for sure going to State. Even with 5, there will be good bands on the outside looking in. I always expect at least one surprise. I am still sticking with Bridgeland and 7L as my locks. But honestly, a bad run in Finals could even have one of these two wondering what happened if a bubble school goes flawless. Not likely, but not impossible. This Area is a beast this year.
  9. Lots of colorful shows out here today! Good luck to all the kids who have put in the long hours for today’s show!

  11. I only saw them perform at halftime a few weeks ago, so I won’t comment on how clean that was, etc as the show was far from a finished product. I root for them because of the state debacle last year. But, I think people aren’t sure yet because the lemon show was so visually fun and cool. So I personally had different expectations.
  12. ā¬†ļø this. No disrespect to Cyfair/CyWoods. I thought Woods got robbed at state with placement. Just with the inconsistent BoA results on even some of the heavier UIL graded stuff, the only two absolute locks for me at this moment are Bridgeland and 7L. Their shows work well for UIL and BoA and I don’t think there could be poor enough judging to keep either of those school from advancing. I’ve been wrong many times in life before though! šŸ˜‚
  13. There is so much to this show that is still being worked out and just not ready for comp yet (and not the reactionary changes). The show will make much more sense and I think will be such a great visual story. Winning Music caption in finals was a great experience for the kids! I root for all these bands. So much work goes into it, the last place bands’ kids work just as hard. Everyone should get to have that school first experience, or unexpected victory/advancement at least once! 🫔
  14. So did Pearland. Prelim 86.4 Finals 85.225 Judges rotate, small changes aren’t uncommon.
  15. I agree. I believe that loss motivated them so much, they will be locked in from the time they hit the band hall in the morning.
  16. Very true. This year the first outing will be a challenge. The props are intricate and practice time with them has been limited. The music and marching is ahead of our norm though. Really excited to see them in competition. I can watch 20 of their practices and then they perform and I’m like this is a different band!
  17. 7L and Jordan for sure. Was there before the KMF last year, and only intensified. I know it’s driving Jordan to be better. And I hope they make it to state with us this year! our natural rival is Cinco, but we really don’t have a beef.
  18. Agreed, BOA South Houston is something I’m really excited for. And the KMF lineup is fantastic right now. I think it will really go a long way in how Area will play out. Some bands will leave motivated and some will leave confident. Last year, I think 7L losing was the turning point in their season. This year it could be a catalyst for another school!
  19. I know their band stayed after to watch SL perform. Did anyone get video?
  20. The order is the order of all potential qualifying bands, just remove the bands who don’t qualify after the region comps are completed and you have the order for area. if all bands were to qualify, that would be their prelim performance order. The remaining finalists would perform in that order with all the non-finalists removed. Or like last year we can finish prelims after a monsoon around 11pm and have no finals.
  21. It looked miles ahead of the same point last year. And I think the Dune theme is going to be even bigger than the Metallica show.
  22. Did not know that. They definitely deserved it, having to stop and restart 4+ hours later and then perform like they did. Truly impressive and a fun show!
  23. I saw your show at Webster and loved it. You finished in the Top 15% of bands in this amazing state. Be proud of that. All the judges scoring varies, they are humans. Think of where you were that first day of practice in July to now. Reflect on that accomplishment and the fun you had along the way.
