Our band kids played a bunch of members of the actually football team who were 8-1 and went to playoffs... and owned them. It was crazy.

I'll agree with Brandt. That is definitely a no. You could march 8 to 5 the whole show just doing straight lines and boxes, and no matter how hard the music is, that drill is still freaking easy. Now if your drill is hard and you play hard music, it being harder just means you need to practice more. :] -
I'm a trombone player who kinda switched to Baritone. Mainly for marching season. I'm still a trombone player, though. :]

Why doesn't LD Bell have a Winterguard? -
Injuries
radchad replied to dtxtrmpt's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Because there were a lot of people faking it. People took the opportunity to not have to stand in the stands or play in the stands. It was pretty bad. People were crying and nothing even happened to them. I doubt I would have someone help me ALL THE WAY OVER on the other side of the field while I'm limping just to fake it. They were like, "Oh well, go sit in the stands. If we find ice we'll bring it to you." Um. Yeah. That was painful walking up the steps. And THEN. A NON-BAND PARENT asked me what was wrong and went and got me ice. Yeah, it definitely pissed me off. -

Last year, Mansfield ues the giant Plexi glass things that were on wooden bases with wheels. Well. Some of the girls on the guard had missed the practice, so they didn't know where exactly to move the props during the closer. Well. We were going 190 bpm. I was going backwards and out of the corner of my eye, I see this giant green thing coming at me. I didn't have time to react and it rammed into my ankle. My instrument flew out of my hands one way and the mouthpiece went the other. What made it worse, my ankles was stuck under it and I was laying on top of it. The stupid girl wouldn't stop. Finally she stopped, so I jumped up and ran over to my instrument with such an adrenaline rush. Then i realized my mouthpiece was gone. I guess I should have forgot about, but as I ran to get it, I collided with a tuba player, in which the tuba rammed into my ribcage where I had a huge bruise. Well, after we came off the field, I had kept a strong face the whole time. Then, I couldn't stand it anymore. I told my co-section leader that my ankle was swelling and that i thought it felt wet(I couldn't tell if it was sweat or not.) So she helped me over to the band parents where (a lot of other people had been hit by props among other things). As I walked up, they made her go back, and left me standing on a hurt ankle. I told them what happened and they said they didn't believe me. I had to walk all the way up the stands and lift up my pants to make them believe it. It had been sliced open and there was blood. I finally got ice and all was well I suppose. I was limping for two weeks or so. On the video, my wipeout is pretty funny. That game, though. Two girls had al;ready been taken to the hospital for concussions from guard equipment. This other kid got taken to the hospital because of heart problems. This other girl had an asthma attack during the show. That was a bad game. -

Haha. Which ever way you want to look at it, Marcus still had a great show, easy drill or not. For some reason, I just wasn't a fan of Westfield's show. And that's weird because I play Euphonium. Haha. -
(I love 70's music. DISCO, BIG BAND, CLASSIC ROCK. The best came from that era. I.E. Donna Summer, Boston, Journey, Led Zeppelin, etc.)

She notices other people's stalker tendencies. But it makes you wonder. Isn't that a stalker tendency in itself? *shifty eyes*

My favorite shows: LD Bell. Some say they like The Remaining better, some say they like Transendence better. It's really hard to compare. The Remaining was soo dark and Trans was so bright. Musically they were both amazing. Sachse. I really enjoyed this show by the end of the season. I wasn't too sure about it earlier on, but by DMI, they sounded awesome. The Woodlands. This show was so entertaining. Definitely an original concept. My mom, who isn't much of a music junkie said The Woodlands was her favorite. So that has to count for something. Mansfield. The music was definitely catchy. I loved the saxophone quintet. Underated for sure. Marcus. Yeah, at first I hated to admit that I liked this show. When I first saw it, I was turned off by how easy the drill was. I like to look at everything.. and while the music was great, the easy drill turned me off from this show. However. After seeing them live again in SA, I was astounded at how awesome this show was. The music was breathtaking. Good show. I think out of all bands, Marcus is one of the few that has really jumped the ranks the past few years. I hadn't even heard of them until '05. -

Yeah. I had Carmel 7th. LD Bell was definitely first. I think If the Woodlands clean just a bit, they could make top 5 easily. -

YEAH LD BELL!!!!! :}}}}}} I AM SO FLIPPING EXCITED! -
Yeah. When I was speaking with a few of the baritone player at their send off performance, they seemed really pumped about the endingf they couldn't tell anyone. I hope it's something frikin' amazing. Favorite shows(basing it just as a spectator, not going into technicalities) today: Woodlands. LD Bell. Centerville. Lawrence Central. Broken Arrow. Reeths-Puffer. Center Grove.

So far, definitely impressed at the bands today. They are all fighting for a finals spot. I have 4 guaranteed finalists on my list. The others I am waiting to see the last block. I agree. The Woodlands and LD Bell better use that good performance time to their advantage! Go TEXAS BANDS! So is it just me, or is everyone really impressed that Carmel's trumpet line picked up Flugles?!

WGI - Winterguard.

I'm going to become a band director.. and so one of the reasons I picked up guard(only winterguard) was to have something like that on a resume. My HS director was soo talented. He did pretty much everything, and that really impressed me.. So I am going to do just that. I'm a drill tech, a musical intern, student teacher, in a winterguard, and helping teach a winterguard. WInterguard has become really fun, and I recommend anyone to do it. ESPECIALLY if you just sit on your butt all winter doing nothing. -

If the imperfection of a man asked the imperfection of another man why it's not perfect while at the same time the other imperfection realized the imperfection of the imperfection was in fact not perfect, what would his response be?

Try this one. "I looked out this morning, and the sun was gone Turned on some music to start my day Then lost myself in a familiar song I closed my eyes, and I slipped away It's more than a feeling When I hear that old song the used to play And I begin dreamin' Till I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away So many people have come and gone Their faces fade as the years go by Yet I still recall as I wander on As clear as the sun in the summer sky."

I was so glad to finally see it in its entirety. I saw it earlier this season at BOA Arlington. This was definitely a treat, minus the fact that I got lost about 3 times. I swear Pennington Field has always been closer than it was. Haha. Anyway. I agree. And yes! The ending will be a real treat. :] -

Eric Whitacre
radchad replied to christus_spohn's topic in Drill Writers, Arrangers, and Composers Corner
Waternight for the win. :] It's like Dmitri Shostakovich. Many of his works were created in reaction to that time period. He had some rough spots in his life. When he was happy, his works were slightly more upbeat. In times of sorrow, well, you know where I am going. It's hard to really compare any composer, especially over such a long period of time. Eric Whitacre vs. Beethoven. Lmao. That just doesn't look right to me. Music has changed with the times. Even comparing modern music with 70's music. It has changed. Eric Whitacre represents modern music while someone like Beethoven represents how music once was. Erich Whitacre is a production of what Beethoven and Bach started. Haha. None of that made sense. -

As long as Mr. Garrett is there, at least. Haha, I have grown to be able to recognize Garrett and Dixon drill. Haha.
