  1. Random question-- Are judges ever repeated from year to year? Or are they different each year? Is there anyway to find who the judges were each year for 4A state marching contest?
  2. Makes no sense whatsoever.
  3. I think they can do it this year! Very solid show. Both West Plains and Randall have been to state finals over the past 3 years so I think both could find themselves there again this year, but not in the top 5.
  4. The scores from judges are all over the place. Congrats to all the advancers!
  5. I haven't seen Andrews this year but know they are historically good and first out of state placements. I think that 5th spot will likely go to Andrews or Hereford.
  6. I don't think it will hurt them really! But rain chances are starting to increase for the morning so hoping it stays away. Don't want another repeat of last year. My prediction for finalists (in performance order): Canyon West Plains Pecos Lubbock-Cooper Liberty Greenwood Big Spring Andrews Hereford Randall Dumas
  7. I know!! Would be amazing to see 5 bands advance from Area A! Also, So happy for Lubbock Estacado- first time in school history to get 1-1-1 at regions. Last time the school advanced to Area was 47 years ago when they got 1-1-2.
  8. I think Canyon could place very high this year. They beat Westmoore (Oklahoma) at a competition a few weeks ago and Westmoore placed 4th at BOA Midland last weekend.
  9. I just mean marching and playing at the same time. Lots of bands seem to stand still and play while other sections march or do visual stuff and they seem to place high (at least in 4A).
  10. I don't think constantly moving gets many points. I see bands that hardly move and almost never move and play at the same time place way higher than ones that do all the time. I think being clean carries a lot more weight.
  11. Canyon looked and sounded great and didn't have their whole show on the field. West Plains and Randall both seemed stronger in prelims than finals but should be contenders for those top spots at area for sure!
  12. After prelims: Colorgaurd- Hereford Percussion- West Plains Drum major- Caprock 1A- Petersburg 2A- Panhandle 3A- Bushland 4A- Canyon 5A- Amarillo
  13. I think Area is going to be incredibly difficult this year. All the bands in Area A have really stepped it up in the past few years and it has gotten to be very competitive. I think the Canyon ISD Three will be the main contenders as usual but Pecos, Frenship Memorial and possibly even Dumas and Hereford are going to make it really interesting this year. I agree Area A does get overlooked by the rest of the state until November, but they are definitely in the game!
  14. Lumberton at 17 and Randall at 23 were the biggest shockers of the day to me.
  15. Agree. Their show was great. I thought there were several bands placed way too low.
  16. Which 5 do you think are set for a lock in finals?
  17. All Bands definitely had their individual challenges for the day. Just goes to show how strong and resilient all of these kids are! All the top 4 definitely earned a spot to go to San Antonio.
  18. Andrews is closer in enrollment size to 5A than any of the Canyon ISD schools. Andrews had a great show, it's just a really tough Area!
  19. From UIL website. 4A went to the 7 judge system last year.
  20. The 6A final schedule on the UIL website has 14 spots for finals.
  21. I just think it is more likely to happen when you have so few bands that get qualified to begin with as well as multiple top performing bands instead of one standout. Regions were brutal this year in Area A for some reason so not many were qualified from the get go.
  22. Bad judge rule added another band for Area A in 3A, 4A, and 6A this year.
  23. The rain definitely made for an interesting day! Congrats to all advancing bands!
  24. Delayed start will most likely mean prelims only.
