  1. I understand BOA and UIL have two different scoring systems, but I still wanted to place this here for comparison. I know it means nothing, but I thought it was interesting. BOA CONROE PRELIMS: Cy Fair - 82.450 Seven Lakes - 82.350 Taylor - 79.650 Katy - 70.950 AREA FINALS Katy - 14 Seven Lakes - 19 Cy Fair - 20 Taylor - 21 All judges believed Katy to be State worthy. 1 judge did not think Jersey Village was State worthy. 2 judges did not think Cy Fair, Seven Lakes, and Taylor were State worthy. Katy beating 3 BOA Conroe Finalists, and by a reasonable margin, is probably the biggest surprise I've ever seen. I'm sure no one, not even HornRank or ANYONE on txbands saw them coming. Heck, even Danpod didn't even mention them in his pre-Area podcast! What a surprise. Excited to see how Katy and Jersey Village perform at State. But I also am VERY intrigued with how Taylor, Seven Lakes, and Cy Fair rank in comparison to them. Personally, I'm predicting the latter 3 all place higher than the former just because of the more consistent and respected judging reputation of the State judges relative to the Area judges. Should be a blast.
  2. Found two birds eye videos of JET and Seven Lakes. Seven Lakes: JET:
  3. Clements is very interesting this year. On one hand, their music is very superior. They've been getting high music scores throughout this season. On the other hand, everyone at the SMC can flat out play. And their marching in terms of cleanness is pretty dirty compared to a lot of the other bands here. We'll see. It all depends on how much they are able to clean in these next couple of weeks marching wise. A lot of bands step it up after area, big time. I hope they do well!
  4. Anyone have the full schedule? I found this performance order online on Cinco Ranch's twitter. 1. Clear Springs 2. Tompkins 3. Dickinson 4. Lamar 5. Stratford 6. Cypress Falls 7. SFA 8. Cypress Ranch -break- 9. Clear Creek 10. Cinco Ranch 11. Ridge Point 12. Jersey Village 13. Langham Creek
  5. If I heard correctly, apparently the first band in prelims performs at 7:30 a.m and the last band in prelims performs at 7 p.m. That's insane!
  6. Not saying I'm right or wrong. These are just my predictions. Should make for an interesting night!
  7. 8 bands making state? In no order, here are the bands I think will make it. SFA Cy Fair Clear Brook Seven Lakes Friendswood Taylor Cy Falls Langham Creek
  8. You're in for a treat with Seven Lakes. I went to see their performance they had last night, and it was marvelous. So much life and energy from the marchers on the field to the drum majors to the guard. They can definitely still improve, but hey that's what this last few rehearsals are for!
  9. I have seen Seven Lakes and Tompkins this past week. Seven Lakes' show is really taking shape. They have some really difficult brass features that have been cleaned up as the weeks have gone by. I absolutely love the music and the contrast between movement to movement. They really put on a show. Tompkins' show is growing too. They have a very mature sound for a band that is only three years old. Their show did not move me as much as Seven Lakes', but they definitely look a lot more cleaner in general. The woodwind section has some pretty neat runs throughout the show that are plenty difficult, and I think making 6A Area Finals a year after 5A Area Finals is completely doable.
  10. Personal thoughts. SFA was phenomenal as usual. I want them to compete at a BOA super regional to see what they can do. I am suprised to see Clements placed so low! They sounded great, maybe it was the marching? Clear Brook, well deserved 2nd place. Their percussion was simply on point and I think that spread out to the rest of the band. Seven Lakes's first impact was perhaps the highlight of my night. That show can definitely be something special. Oak Ridge sounded beautiful throughout their show. Their opener sounded heavenly. The Woodlands CP not making finals was the biggest question mark for me.
  11. Excited to see the battle between the top bands as always (CTJ, Reagen, TWHS), but also gotta love the other bands giving just as much effort. They rarely get as much credit.
  12. I know it is extremely early still and this isn't a relatively big competition compared to the BOA regionals, but who would your finalist bands at lone star preview be if you had to pick today? The bands performing there are listed below. Central LaFource Hastings Lafayette Taylor Clements Kempner Mayde Creek Tomball Dekaney Klein Richland Tompkins Dulles Klein Collins Seven Lakes Travis Foster KleinForest Splendora Westfield Friendswood Klein Oak Stephen F. Austin Willis
