This was a great contest. So much across the board to be proud of. Lots of talent in 5A, it was a great day for band in Texas!

I was at a competition once with our pretty large congregated group. I had been speaking to a parent in front of me from another band about their group, kids, etc. So our kids enter the field and I tell him "I'm really sorry we're about to yell our chant it going to be very loud but I won't yell in your ear!" He said that's great asked what we yell and I told him. He stood up and yelled with us. Competition doesn't have to be divisive. This is about teaching kids many things beyond music.

I have 4 boys. We've been involved in pretty much everything, football, soccer, baseball, band....... Nothing even come close to band. These kids are so amazing and supportive. Band events are the only place I've ever seen other kids shouting out "good luck", "good show" and giving other bands high 5's. I've never seen a sports team cheering for another sports team at a competition.

A lot of the parents are the same but not all. I think it comes down to what kind of band parent you are. You are either a band parent (and you rock!!) or you're a parent with a kid in band. There's a huge difference between the two.

At Austin Regions this year, some CTJ students (not sure if band members or just fans) in the stands would ask other schools for kid names to yell out as bands entered the field.  It was so cute and spirited.

Contest schedule for Area D. Lots of fun groups, lots of fun shows. Lots of excitement from bands that may get chance for the first time ever at a state competition. State will be a fantastic competition, so many 5A groups all over the state have really stepped it up this year.
