2007 BOA Regional Schedule
Fortisimo replied to mbui's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Ah darn, it was going to be right in my backyard. -
I s'pose I'll just have to wait and see them all at their top and all at once in Pasadena to really get a good feel for this season.
-
Lol, my money is on something like the other night; BD first, Cadets second. Of course, then the judges will later realize that the Cadet's music is brutal, and will then follow the conspiracy theory.
-
That's exactly what I thought too! It just doesn't really go anywhere (like you said, other than Space Chords **** without mercy). Lol, yeah. Personally, I think the narration is actually pretty well integrated. The people I went to the show with weren't too enthused about it, but when I told them that a lot of the scripting came from personal essays written by fans and drum corps participants/alumni, they seemed to like the idea a lot more. Lol, heck yeah. Diabloque Suggestions seemed to be their strongest movement to me. Although, I liked the way they used the Firebird- granted, part of me wishes they included the faster parts and whatnot, but it was refreshing to just have the final resolve section used in the way it was. My favorite part of the night was the hit in Song of Aeolus, Adiemus (the Cadets final movement).

I definitely thought the Cadets were better than the Blue Devils. But the Space Chords section for BD was undeniably bitchin'.

LOL, more advice! This time from our good friends at the Rice MOB! Of course, since these dudes are all incred- well, at least fairly smart, and everyone knows everyone at Rice is great at science, they must know what they are talking about, right? More Trumpet Advice!

Arlington Regional 2007
Fortisimo replied to Sicemb's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Hey, sicemb, how's the arrangment so far? I've been check out the scores, but with all the parts separated out and all the convoluted time changes, I'm having a hard time getting a grasp of the direction the first movement is taking. And are ya'll going to Houston for sure? If so, it'll be right in my backyard at Rice stadium. -
LMAO, I told ya'll, a Billy Joel show? Cavs just **** themselves. This has good and bad points: Good- Cavs aren't gonna win this year, leaving it open to fresh meat. It looks like Blue Coats are going nicely, but then so was SCV at the very beginning. It all remains to be seen. Bad- you can't read as much into this as you might want. Although it looks like other corps are doing better, while they may in fact be, the fact is that this perception is skewed because the Cavs are doing much worse due to their pathetic show concept, thus making others look even better in relation. It would be interesting to see the Bluecoats do really well, though. I'm still on the Cadets' side, myself.

Dude, I am the same way man. I love it so much, I made a mix with a jungle/Drum&Bass track with Adagio for Strings and Space chords. It's pretty epic. Oh man, I can't wait to see that. Does anyone happen to have any sorto f recording? Be it audio or visual or, preferably, both.
-
HOLYSHI- they brought back some space chords action?! Fck yeah man! Btw, Cadets out on top- I'm definitely down with that.
-
Amen to that!

Holy shi-, Vanguard... lmao. Now I feel like I should go try and find some sort of recordings of them. Having trouble finding them... found a vid of the Cadets at this comp though. Narration improved- by that I mean they cut quite a bit out. The music has changed too, but I don't really think for the better. They cut out some of the more technical stuff in the first movement- there's still a bit left, but I mean come on. There's still like four measures missing from the first hit that f*** up the chord progression too. I can't believe they messed with that part- it was excellent. Nice added horn rips at the end of the first movement though. I'll see if I can find more vids.

I hope Martin got a good arranger. They're gonna need it. Perhaps that's just the aftertaste from last year speaking though... -
Well, like I said, the narration isn't that great. The opening to Aeolus is the only part that I thought didn't suck as far as that goes, but the music kicks major ****, so I figure just ignore the bad and take the good. Keep in mind, this is their first performance, and I've heard the narration has been vastly improved since then.

Symphonic Movement Blue Shades Song of Aeolus First public performance for the Cadets this season. Tight, friggin' balls. Narration needs some work, but as far as music goes, I love it so far.

To The Class of '08

Our class of 2007 has the most national merit finalists that our school has ever had. Plus, our principal hates us. I love our class--- we're smart, and cocks. LOL. -

Help! What to do?
Fortisimo replied to Anonymous's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Continue your anonymity and drop a tip to one of your directors. Make a temporary email address or something and send them an email. If they don't do anything, then perhaps step it up to either your principal or perhaps another higher ranking official.
