  1. I will say the one bonus to the BOA sheets are that they're in performance order, which is handy if you're trying to assess score trends (like how often do bands cross the split-draw for finals or do bands ever win GN after performing first (the answer is no))
  2. I saw Bowie this weekend and their show is a full package visually. Their music towards the end needs some refinement, but it's nothing that a week can't fix. I can see them spoiling the fun in the top 5 with the right performance. Their show is beautiful and they're performing it well.
  3. This was when Marcus was completely on fire and they handily took the music caption that year (which was absolutely the right call).
  4. Two sources. One is my own memory, and I confirmed by checking the wizarding world of ranking horns.
  5. Actually regional winners do get to pick their day for Super Regionals. As do Class Champions at GN Semis, so Leander with another Saturday spot wouldn't surprise me. See: Rule 7.02 http://www.musicforall.org/images/PDFs/2017/Fall/Rulebook/2017_Rulebook_-_FINAL.pdf
  6. I'm sure of it. I'm no stranger to late night and early morning trips as an LISD alum myself.
  7. I think Vista Ridge got their timeslot because they signed up for the regional after the priority deadline. It sucks, but this was controllable.
  8. I'm not sure how I felt about the Area F placements, having been there myself. For what it's worth, TWHS was 6th in state prelims a week and a half later and Spring was in the 30s.
  9. I'm definitely watching Odessa Permian. Last year was a pleasant surprise and they're looking to be on the right track to compete with bands in the Triangle of they keep progressing.
  10. Ehh. I saw them at Area F last year. I thought they were low balled a fair bit (would have had them somewhere around the teens), but they aren't in the top 20 in the whole metro, for sure.
  11. Yes, that's why they gave Avon the lowest chance of going undefeated. Avon has the toughest road out of all four, with FloMo just behind. Broken Arrow, on the other hand, will almost undoubtedly be undefeated until November.
  12. I *think* Carmel on a year they skipped ISSMA might tie or beat this record. No other band traveled as much as them, and the BOA regionals used to be a little more limited before about 8 or so years ago, so probably nobody else comes close. I think Bell may also have gotten four in a season during their stretch of GN trips.
  13. SFA in Austin is different than the storied SFA in Houston. Westlake, Hendrickson, Dripping Springs and Anderson should all come before Austin High on a top 10 list of Austin.
  14. Argyle Argyle Argyle. I *need* them to give it a shot. I think they would barely squeak into Class A, which they would completely wreck in Texas and even be competitive nationally. I could see North Lamar making waves in 2A too, with the road now clear from Dripping Springs and Aledo.
  15. I doubt anyone else pulls out here, now that the Superdome has been confirmed, per BOA.
  16. It's actually a dead weekend in the state because of Area competitions, so I believe they'll take the weekend off to prepare for San Antonio. Perhaps they'll go to a USBands competition, but I doubt it. Edit: oops didn't realize DMI was that weekend
  17. I would be absolutely shocked if Avon fell below 4th. Avon is consistent every year in a way that Texas bands right now just aren't. While there are probably 7ish bands that *can* beat Avon at San Antonio, there's no telling how many *will*. They and Flower Mound are the only bands here that are more likely to medal than not.
