This competition is on the Richardson calendar as well

Oh and Richardson also got a new guard director who marched crown, phan, and bloo, and also was on bloo staff for the 2024 season.

Richardson is losing their assistant director (he got a job at frisco liberty HS) and already have a new one hired, and one of Lake highlands assistant directors (who is his wife) is also moving schools to somewhere in frisco as well. so all of RISD has director changes now as far as I’m aware

I saw a video of Waxahachie’s show being called Perplex, can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, it seems like it will get to the point where its just the really big and known contests remaining because of those factors. Sad to see it happen to some contests like the Plano East contest that was doing good a couple years ago to being a bit empty now, and the plenty of schools that have dropped contests in the past.

Yeah how finals get set up could definitely be a big factor. If they do a "small school" and "large school" finals that could be interesting for some of the 4As coming to the contest such as Farmersville, Sulphur, and Aubrey, who could definitely dominate in that 4A category. This one could be a fun watch this year. Mineola also could be a great addition to this contest, I'm excited to see who else may show up to the contest this year.

Yup, there seems to be more and more schools starting to host their own competitions and the some schools just don't have the budget to compete in a lot of contests every year now that state is a yearly thing (smaller schools) and not to mention so many band programs that are up and down year to year. I know there were a couple of competitions last year where lots of schools dropped to go somewhere else that in their eyes was more competitive.

That's because the State Contest flipped this year. This year 2A/4A/6A are the first week and 1A/3A/5A are the 2nd week which could affect several contests like it did last year

A friend of mine said that Mineola has this on their schedule but not sure. I heard there were some others but waiting to hear back. Also, not sure how the contest will be ran. I know one year they did a 2A/3A/4A Finals and then after that late in the night they did a 5A/6A finals. I think last year they just did one because there was a lot less bands due to many of them having Regionals that week.

Yeah, Region 25 split up their contests. 6A and the Plano NVs are on October 11, 2A/3A/4A is October 15, and 5A is October 18. The 3A bands in this region get two weekends before Area.

That seems pretty early for a region contest, but to be fair it could help with preparing for area and state, especially those who are in that second wave of people (A, 3A, 5A this year i think)

Wow this could be a great addition to the contest! Hopefully this addition will help bring in more people to the contest, I'm a bit worried that it will be a bit small with the rise of Melissa, but wylie east and also Emerson are both great additions to this contest

It’s not uncommon for some bands to do both! Wylie East did so in 2022

A decent amount of bands have region on this day in the DFW area, I think 24 and 25 so most very north Texas bands in attendance here do, but boa does a decent job (I think) of helping the groups doing both manage

I’m very excited to see how they do here, been a while since they’ve got to this comp but if they can bounce back from last season definitely could be in finals contention!

I am curious about the music selections for this one - this could be a fun show!
