UIL 3A State Marching Contest 2025 (Nov 12)
TexasStrangers replied to bxOxAxUIL's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
The last realignment cutoff for 4A was 545. So, if you were 544 you were 3A. Hitchcock was at 526. Atlanta was 504. Raymondville 516, Winnsboro 496. I don't expect the number for 3A/4A to move very much this coming season. It's just a question of which way. I think there are some schools that will possibly move up to 4A but I don't think those schools are known for their band programs. -

UIL 3A State Marching Contest 2025 (Nov 12)

From what I’ve seen Raymondville & Hitchcock are both on the line between 3A & 4A. Holliday on the other hand is in 3A D2 so they’re not close to going to 4A. -
yeah he left to go to Highland Park up in 5A, im glad he's moving up to bigger bands however sad to see him go while leaving an incredible legacy
-
i totally agree with this!! i remember last year genesis struggling to break 70 at finals last year and this year they are less than 2 points away from doing so after their first show! i also am predicting a boston crusader win this year 🙏
-
finally took the time to update this lol
-
Oh for sure! That 12th-15th-ish is gonna be pretty tight I think, hoping for a tie for 12th so we get 13 in finals 🤞 If that can even happen lol

A bonus is that a lot of the lower corps are GREAT this year. Even the All Age corps are doing amazing. Music City, Gold, Crossmen, Genesis, you name it. This is going to be a great year for DCI.
-
It may not be crazy to say we might get a full on anti-sweep of the captions. In my predictions after a few weeks of DCI season and watching shows I think that: Zingali Colorguard - Blue Devils Sanford Percussion - SCV (awesome show) General Effect - Bloo Ott Brass - Crown I think Boston will not win an award (but cut close with SCV for Stanford) but will medal gold or silver.

Woah, that’s a little harsh. Didn’t you have Alexander in your top spot for your previous prediction? Did something come up that shook that perspective?

UIL 3A State Marching Contest 2025 (Nov 12)

Does anyone know of any of the major 3A bands that will be moving up to 4A? Curious if Raymondville or Holliday would possibly be on the move. -

TexasStrangers replied to bxOxAxUIL's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
I don't know what the numbers are at Hitchcock. A good majority of the good programs in 3A are Division 2 schools. I think the closest school to the cutoff was Raymondville who could maybe move back up. I don't really know of any 2A's that could jump up to 3A. It seems like when realignment happens it's usually the big schools that go up and go down. - Yesterday

I feel like Edinburgh may surprise a lot of people this year. Weslaco is always on that cusp of just making it they have to make it one year!!! and LOL, there’s no way Alexander gets 3rd, especially over Hanna. I don’t see them making it to top 3 this year

Very true. We could see a group like Hitchcock who will more than likely be moving up to 4A the next go around make a big push this year. -

I think it's an overall big net positive. Before all music judges were having to judge way too many subcaptions IMO (Content, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion, Ensemble), and now it's just three (Ensemble Content, Ensemble Performance, and their specific caption). So I guess all music judges were judging every caption in some way before, though you can usually tell which judges actually judged the whole sheet versus the ones who just wrote down a number for all of music. If a judge has straight 1st's, straight 2nd's, straight 3rd's, etc. for every band with all those subcaptions.........they're probably not really judging all those subcaptions.

Probably by the end of the month..

Yeah I have no clue, but it’s a good sign bc it means a lot of groups are on their A game this season, could arguably be the best all around season post-Covid, LOS is gonna be an absolute bloodbath

I think this is a positive thing, my only concern is if all the judges are band directors (5A ones Id assume), I'm worried that they might not have the ear for percussion that a percussionist might have. I know I sure don't. And not that there aren't any directors who are percussionists, but I know they are few and far between. My solution would to be to have a special percussion judge, and he or she would be the only one to not switch from music to visuals for finals. I would assume that's the plan but this is new. With that being said I do like the chances for captions now. Especially with all the kids on the field for the retreat it just gives more excitement In this area especially.

Just when I thought BOA and UIL was hard to predict here comes DCI PREDICTIONS AND THEY'RE EVEN CLOSER. I give up

UIL 3A State Marching Contest 2025 (Nov 12)
TexasStrangers replied to bxOxAxUIL's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
Oh no doubt, a solid program for many years I think the last 6 State Titles have been Whitesboro/Mineola/Mineola/Mineola/Whitesboro/Mineola. I would like to see Whitesboro pushed more in Area B. There isn't much there besides Howe and Holliday (had them 2nd at State 2 yrs ago) who are both pretty good programs. Area C is a gauntlet with Mineola/Redwater/Atlanta/Winnsboro/Commerce/Queen City and an up and coming Quitman who has missed out on state by 1 slot 2 yrs in a row. -
Nope your spot on
