Well, im back from Mexico! Update me on everything that happenned! Dont remind me the Redskins are in the NFL playoffs and Cowboys just lost to a horrible St. Louis team.

Wut is a "burn ban" i keep seeing on the bulletins all across Texas??

Because of the lack of rain lately, the grass is really dry this year. There have been quite a few wildfires in quite a few places in Texas lately which have killed at least 4 or 5 people, have made hundreds of people homeless, and done millions of dollars worth of property damage.

 

And to make it worse, the wildfires were started by stupid people doing stupid things. One started because someone was burning trash (there was already a ban on that) and an ember landed in the grass. Another started because somebody was having a barbecue and accidentally knocked over the grill (this one took out a couple of cities just South of Mansfield). And there is at least one where it is suspected that it was started by someone tossing a smoldering cigarette out of his car.

 

So, Rick Perry declared Texas a disaster area and instituted a burn ban. Basically, you can't have just about anything on fire outside (except cigarettes), and a cop better not see you toss a cigarette out of the car window. That also meant that the cops were on the lookout for anyone playing with fireworks on New Years (including and especially sparklers).
