That is correct. Anything is fair game during the 5 minute entrance/warmup period.

Is that why Vandegrift wasn't penalized for its drum major solo? She did seem like she was in an awful hurry to finish it up before the announcement ended.

In theory, nothing is supposed to be judged until the official show starts. And the official show starts 5 minutes after you start to enter the field regardless of whether you are ready or not.
