I kind of wish the Indoor Percussion scene was more prominent in the State of Texas. According to the WGI site, only eight percussion lines from the State of Texas are competing in WGI events this year, six of whom are performing at the WGI World Championships. WGI hasn't held a percussion regional in the State of Texas for a few years. In fact, the closest regional to the State is in Denver.

Does the amount of money involved in "touring" during the Spring Semester deter percussion programs from doing WGI? I think it does. For example, Churchill is spending around $1,200 for two TCGC Regionals, one WGI Regional in California, and the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

Well, yeah Daniel, you have a point. Not to many percussion units compete in TCGC either.

Money is probably a major factor, as well as, concert band commitments. My school's indoor line has managed to find money to attend three TCGC competitions and two local contests, but the TCGC contests are over 400 miles away from the Rio Grande Valley.

I have seen the YouTube video of Chruchill's line and it is really good. The guard is amazing like always.

Is there a reason why WGI percussion never really caught on here in Texas?

That's gotta suck with all the traveling you have to do. Props to your group for being so committed. I think that one major contributing factor is the fact that we take marching band so darn seriously here. We don't want to do a darn thing during the Spring Semester, and I don't blame anyone who thinks that way a single bit. Some programs take concert season just as seriously, if not more seriously, as marching season. For those programs, or for any program, to add on a percussion show that travels and performs several weekends out of the Spring Semester is a great challenge.

i agree with danpod, at Connally, we have a good drumline program, (have got first in marching A for 5 out of the six years we have competed), but we have a hard time just competiting on the scholastic A level because of concert band and we have no money for props or any fancy floors
