That’s funny because they literally do exactly what every other band did at area. And as far as Chuck’s accuracy I think it’s fair to say from his rankings that he was all over the place. Just look at pleasant groves prelims to finals. He single handedly cost them state. Celina SS and NL do not park and bark. They have simultaneous responsibilities always. NLAnd Celina’s are particularly difficult. Canton marches and plays almost twice as much as everyone else. BC and PT do a fair amount of park and bark but they sound better than lumberton. Again, great program! If they advanced, I seriously doubt they would be last place at state. But they are not on the same level as the bands that advanced. I also thought PG and Farmersville were significantly better as well. Pit123456 1 Quote
olivelover47 Posted October 29, 2025 Posted October 29, 2025 Watching all bands on Monday and man did this area not disappoint. Sorry for the late opinion but here’s my thoughts. State qualifiers very much deserved. Can say I did not see Canton making it in but after watching them I think they’re a well deserved band to make it in. PT coming in 4th was something a lot of people didn’t expect and I think it’s awesome for them to be back after missing out on finals last year. Little bias cause class of 08 but PT’s show was amazing. BC man holy cow they are loud. I was in the restroom when they performed and it honestly felt I was right next to them (Could be exaggerated lol). Top 3 was expected I think by everyone and all 3 are amazing bands. May just be me but there might be a good chance for this whole area to make state finals (in a perfect world). As for PG, Farmersville, and Lumberton, my heart is broken for those kiddos. Going to try and get work off to go see state next week. Congrats to anyone in here who marched monday!! Quote

Now I do have comments that I want to say out loud however, I have a lot of reputation within this community and do not wish to put that into jeopardy. I will just say, @Saxtastic45 I respect your comments and opinions; however, I feel like you have something against Lumberton because almost everything you say about them comes out to be in a negative way. I was a freshman 10 years ago in the Lumberton band program, and the formula then is WAY different than now. I do agree with you on cleanliness, I think they needed to clean more especially this year. I think it's because Lumberton is pushing for harder music and more complex-ish drill. Back when I was in the program, our drill was so easy, and music was not the most difficult. Don't get me started on choreography because that was nonexistent until my junior year (2017). I just think that Lumberton tried a brand-new formula this year and unfortunately, it did not work out. Now next year, I think they will especially work harder to make a comeback. I don’t agree about the unchanged formula either. Heck, just look back a couple years. I don’t think this change in approach was necessarily a bad direction for them. Maybe they just took on too many changes in one season to be able to clean everything in time for competition? Quote

To be clear, I am not talking about whether or not they changed the approach to show design. I’m talking about the concept of sound and cleanliness. They are always pushing the envelope when it comes to difficulty musically. But at what cost? It’s never truly clean or musical to my ears and eyes. Just an honest opinion from a casual observer.
