MY TAKES ON THIS AREA (Very detailed):

I do think Lone Star and Wakeland will be at each others necks for first. Lone Star typically peaks in prelims then Wakeland comes for Area champ in finals. Lone Star preview was a crazy experience. Their sound is still powerfull especially in the brass. But Wakeland has better woodwinds in my opinion

But I also belive Lebanon Trail is coming for a state spot. After making one away and North kids were cheering their hearts out which I believe was a disrespectful act they did unknowingly, I know they want their state spot back. Their show last year was amazing in all aspects. The props and unis were cool as well as the music and visual.

As for North, thier show theme "Celistal Nights" seems boring and will probably be another jazz show. I understand that they have poor funding but having the same jazz show for three years does get to a point with the same props and unis. It feels like "cheating" to use the same show skeleton

Walnut Grove for sure has a chance at State. Last year was a great show including their overall sound and that one lead trumpet throwing G's around. I am not on board with the show reveal so far but I cant wait to see them perform.

Argyle has a cool greek mythology theme called "Elysium Fields" this year and think they will do better than last year. 8th at State and 23rd at GN was not what was expected result for them. They have big shows to fill because they used to be 4A kings.

As for Reedy/Colony/Emerson/Heritage/Memorial/Liberty/Independece (All Frisco ISD), they all are competing with their sister schools for a finals seat and possibly state. I personally root for Emerson as their show did not make finals even though it was amazing visually. Liberty suprised me as they made finals. their show was good musically but the theme and visual kinda didnt sit well with me. Heritage has to drop the train and step up the game. They have shown that they have potential to do great things. Independece also has room to improve but they sound great!

Anna/Melissa, I know Anna medaled at state as a 4A but they havent caught up to 5A standards, same for Melissa. But I heard Melissa recently got the head director from Keller Centeral(6A) and are preparing a show, "Growing Forward"  which is about their history I believe. I personally root for Melissa as they always have good themes and music. Anna has a show called "As Seen on TV" which could do well if executed great. But they were a solid 4A program.

Lovejoy/Denton etc. i do not know as much for these programs but still wish them a great season.

I will provide my personal predictions once contest begins and I have seen the shows but for now I belive that:

--------------------------------------------------

LoneStar/Wakeland - 1st/2nd

Argyle/LT - 3rd/4th

MN/Reedy - 5th/6th

(rest is too early to predict but will add soon

Argyle's show, I think, is called Elysian Fields. I'm not sure, but that's what I think.

Emerson was definitely dissed.... From what I know their show is going to be really good...

I agree they got dissed. I could not tell much from their show reveal so I do not want to judge before it has been fully produced.

As for Memorial getting Duncanville's director, I dont know how much this will benifit them as Duncan has not been a state finals band for over 10 years. But I do hope they get their design team fixed up.

From what I can tell about Emerson this year is that it's significantly different from last year, not sure how it'll shape out though. Looks good so far

Well he did get them into area finals for I think the first time ever and they were in from 2022-2024, even getting a couple 4's in marching once or twice I believe, so I think Reed will still be very solid

Do you think memorial will get any better? I'm not too familiar with the Duncanville guy but I do know Duncanville has done pretty good

Ummmm it’s possible. Idk how hard it is going from a pretty large people to band with what around 100 people? I also haven’t been a huge fan of their show designs of late which I think has been part of the reason they’ve been struggling at state despite still being a really talented group. But memorials themes have also been kinda basic, so I’m hoping he’s able to help with that but I don’t think he’s gonna hurt them, but I think they’ll struggle to be a top contender at area until they grow a little more or move down to 4A, but I’m very excited to see how they do this season!

Likewise, what do you guys think is the outlook for Liberty this year? I personally believe they had a strong show last year and am excited to see what they have coming next.

I was surprised by their result last year, and due to the judging changes I really don’t think they can keep up the momentum. I think out of frisco schools they’re in the upper half, but I see them getting 10th or lower this year

I am a big fan of what Liberty does but I am not a big fan of thier show title but also with the new judging system, they might not place as well as they used to. And with Lake Hamilton absent from BOA Prosper, Melissa has a good chance at sweeping AA champs.

Does anyone really know anything about Colony this year?

The Colony is looking really good, went to their parent preview and watched their run against Fossil Ridge on 8/28, they're in a really good place right now to be back in area finals. super excited to see their comeback throughout this season

Now as for Argyle, I was slightly dissapointed in how the show opened there was no build-up or cool start. It was still a great performance. Loved the Tuba/Euph duet (heard some Mahler). They have a very strong sound per usual but I expected more after their wonderful show last year. They have a good chance at making a comeback in this area and possibly state. They did not get the results they used to last year at State and GN but this show has the potential to do great.

Now for Lone Star. HOLY CRAP, they opened the show right away with some loud sustains across the field. Very good work by winds and perc. Visually it is not the most interesting so far but I find it cool they got some of their props finished in August. Their second movement sounds a lot similar to 2024 but I am not going to be nitpicky and judge it. Although I prefer their opener from last year so far. The woodwinds are playing great as usual.

Now for Emerson, this is something new... definietly need to see it after some more work but I love the production so far. The theme has potential to go so far. Could not find much to comment on for this.

Now for Melissa, WOW this is not the same program from last year. They have so much more improvment from last year. Although I saw some visual discrepancies, the opener was pretty and the second movement was pretty cool musically and visually. I wonder if that M stands for Melissa. They are already so much better and I cant wait to see the full production!

Do you have recordings for Emerson and Melissa? And I completely agree for LS. Apparently their in the process of changing the opener visually by a pretty big amount so excited for that. I've also heard that Emerson was somewhat rough but had a pretty new theme, and does Melissa sound that good to where they could be a finalist? I've heard some things in the past from their band members about how the staff doesn't take contests too seriously, but it sounds like they could be turning it around.
