Really hoping skyline comes to perform! I want to say I have my suspected top 10-15 but results have been pretty wild this year. I “think” I know what to expect from top 5….and that random order draw could be fascinating. Who wants to be a fly on the wall of that directors meeting. 😂

I remember my sons freshman year….they filed in for prelim results and then about 5 minutes before they started filing out! As newbies we didn’t know what it meant until they were announced as first marching in finals and had to go prep! Every year they have been a step closer! Last year 5th. Just a breath behind. What I wouldn’t give out my zero music abilities to help them make state his senior year!

I thought music was split into captions but the visuals judges judged both individual and ensemble like usual, or am I mistaken? The McKinney contest supposedly used the new Area system and their visual judges were still generalized.

I’ve heard that UIL Area judging is now caption-based, as in:

J1 - Woodwinds

J2 - Brass

J3 - Percussion

J4 - Visual Ensemble

J5 - Visual Individual

Is that true?

Only the music is split for Area, the visual judging is the same as before

potentially hot take....Dville might not make top 8 at area finals

Wild thought coming off last year but definitely haven’t showed much yet this year. Still have to think something will click at area though. Too good historically not to give it a good run. Get into finals and its anyones guess what could happen! Could have a show the judges like 🤷

I mean, that might happen. Their woodwing scores at Birdville were tremendously low, lower than some schools that they REALLY. shouldn't be lower than. I'm sorry but 17th in woodwinds. But, to complement that, they do have a top 5 brass in the area. Percussion may not do so well, and their visual scores aren't awful, but I don't really see D-ville making much noise if at all.

Alright a few days ago someone said something about a rain dance. Well the forecast calls for thunderstorms tomorrow lol. Anyway I couldn’t find the make up date for tomorrows UIL does anyone know when that would be?

Makeup date for 2A/4A/6A Region 3 is Monday, Oct 20.

The weather app currently forecasts rain for the entire duration of the contest. Of course, it is Texas, so I wouldn't be surprised if it barely rains at all lol

On the bright side, Area weather looks decent. Not too confident though based on the temperature drop, but we will see.

It was me!!!! Dance dance dance! I believe Monday is the rain make up. As long as Area doesnt get pushed to a school day. That was brutal for parents.

Intrigued that Berkner is trending so high in this thread with a loss of band director and Pearce was the highest RISD school last year and isn’t on the radar - presumably because new band director? Although he’s from Berkner so would have high expectations.

Pearce got Berkners head band director and the assistant director moved up at berkner.

It was really weird to see them not march any tenor drums. I doubt they will get a percussion caption for that reason and because they are going against 3-4 power house percussion schools

Forney
Wax
Rockwall Heath(I know call me crazy but their pit is crazy)
Maybe Berkner (2nd at Lonestar in 2023 and 4th in 2024, this year I think they have a chance to win Lonestar drumline contest)

Thanks, I’d assume they keeps the same schedule for the Monday?

I’d suspect Waxahachie will battle for first but very curious of what could happen with Lake Highlands and Richardson

lake highlands seems to be really small this year, their school is the largest in RISD but their band is the smallest by quite a bit compared to Pearce and Berkner, and they look not even half of Richardson's size, anyone know why that might be? do they just have lower fine arts enrollment, I know Richardson is a Fine Arts magnet school and all, so obviously they have high band enrollment but LHHS seems to be a tiny band for a such a big school

notably Richardson also got 3rd in percussion at Plano east, 2nd in one category I think as well

tbf that was a month ago we will see how they place tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised if they get 2nd or 3rd in perc tmr

depends how good wax and KC do there tmr, but honestly a lot can change since early season so who knows lol, their colorguard is looking much better than last year I heard the old director had been not the greatest, so their new CG director seems to be a strong improvement

I'm honestly doubting that Richardson will be making finals. Also when compared to the other Richardson schools they are not as strong. Berkner does 2 drumline contest each year and I believe the other Richardson schools only do 1. Berkner won percussion caption at Mansfield POC prelims and were 1 point off (out of 200) from winning it in finals with a score of 193. I don't see anyone out of those 4 competing for the percussion caption at area and I am not sure if  Berkner will come close compared to Forney.

Lake Highlands is the lowest income school in RISD (It's either them or Berkner I can't remember) but with band fees it might be hard for parents to pay for their kid to do band.

I definitely think out of all the captions percussion will be the closest out of all of them. Heaths pit seems to be doing a lot better after they hired I believe berkners percussion director (I could be wrong feel free to correct me) a couple years ago. I do think Forney and Waxahachie have the strongest chances at taking the caption though.
