Not being snarky at all, up their game from??? Their finish in birdville was disappointing…hard to anticipate a huge turn around in 3-4 days but could do. A lot of changes by Area for sure.

Pending Berkner’s official result (I’m assuming they got a 1), all 6A bands from Region 20 except for Lancaster got ones.

Good question….just my opinion, but making it for first time in 12 years, and drew last spot and not likely to make finals, would be fun show to see before announcing finalist. We shall see

Never count out Duncanville. No matter who their director is they’ve still been historically one of the best bands in the history of Texas

Oh this isn’t about counting D-ville out. I think they will be motivated for Area. It’s gauging if their Region performance was drastically different from Birdville and other comps that they have not done as well at!

Did anyone notice how low Pearce got at their contest that they won last year? I believe it was Mckinney or Wiley contest but they went from 1st to not making finals. Anyone thinking this shifts the finals at area at all?

That would be exciting actually, the cool thing about band kids/fans is they cheer for each other no matter what style they are. Skyline with that big of a crowd would have the craziest crowd reactions I hope they decide to play.

Not 6A but still area c, I saw something similar happen to west mesquite last year. Think they went from 3rd to like 7th or something wild like that.

While discussing types of bands…have heard this year about “JV” bands! Are these bands where enrollment is so high they can’t all march together or does this tend to happen at HS’s that are like 9-10 grade campuses?

 

3 Major marching band style

1. Military: Based off military marching, constant 4/4 time signature and 6 to 8 step size, normally always in straight lines, also they typically play marches. Pretty common in East Texas

2. Show Style: HBCU style, loud playing, pop songs. They usually move to a set and play a song then move to the next set and play a new song.

3. Corp Style: Based on DCI and focused on the art form of music with movement. This is what you would see online or from most high schools in this area of Texas. Most of the time have some over arching story line or theme.


There you go, all in all every part of marching band started from the military but now it is branching out into its own art form and takes on the militaristic form of marching. Hope that helps a bit.

I still see them making finals but I'm thinking mid to low placements. Their director change hit them pretty hard I think

They got 13th and were one away from finals

Strictly number of post you make and reactions. You go up in rank fast early on but the higher you get the more points you need to bump

Duncanville Invitational is Saturday the 18th, but there are not many bands from Area C.

Are there only 10 total bands going? Such a small contest. Does that mean everyone makes finals???

Usually that means all bands advance to finals, or if weather issues occur will be a prelims only event, its unfortunate this contest is so small because of alternating areas, otherwise I would imagine more bands would go to this, maybe fall break could be a solution for region obstructing this day for competitions

Intrigued that Berkner is trending so high in this thread with a loss of band director and Pearce was the highest RISD school last year and isn’t on the radar - presumably because new band director? Although he’s from Berkner so would have high expectations.

I haven’t seen enough from Berkner to really confidently slot them anywhere. I’ve seen some people rank them in the 4 to 6 range, which is insane to me. I imagine they would be fine since they maintained relatively the same staff, but they just aren’t on the level of Rockwall Heath or Sachse.

Top 5 of finals will be really tight

I’d suspect Waxahachie will battle for first but very curious of what could happen with Lake Highlands and Richardson
