how is no one talking about china spring beating panther creek?? this COMPLETELY changes the game for state AND state finals!!

Supposedly panther creek scored high in visual but was butchered in music.

Area B was super intense today! I think a lot of bands flew under the radar of the judges. I was totally surprised to see some of the bands that made it to the finals. The top two were a no-brainer, but the other bands didn’t have a fair shot from the prelims to the finals.

I still stand by my predictions lol.  Krum and Alvarado got rinsed.  However, considering that I managed to see all of finals live, there were going to be at least three very much deserving bands that got kicked to the curb.  That being said, congratulations to all performing and advancing bands!

Having now looked at the recaps, I can say with a certain level of confidence that I very much disagree with quite a few of these results.  To address the PC/CS thing, I think it will quite literally depend on the run they each have.  They basically flipped all their scores from prelims to finals.  In other words, they’re very much in the ballpark of each other;  there hasn’t been some earth-shattering upheaval in terms of scoring.  Rest assured that PC will not take this loss sitting down, and CS will not take this win for granted.

Top two were a given, but too be honest, no disrespect, but a few of those bands and their placement, got hosed...in my opinion

Like who?

This should be the last contest for this judging panel. Objectively, 3rd-8th spots are incredibly flawed. 2 ties—almost FOUR….And prelims? Cmon..

Are there bands in hat you think should have gone to finals but didn't?

Liam can you give you analysis and honest opinion about Venus I’m not really concerned about how we placed more about how we did as a band and all of that stuff also side note I think we would of placed a lil higher than what we did but I do know there were a lot of other bands that’s had the razzle dazzle we didn’t lol if that makes sense

thank you

China Spring took advantage of that last spot and left the judges with something to think about. Kudos to them for a great show and taking advantage of the draw.

I'm surprised Krum was left out, but I'm even more dumbfounded by Alvarado being in 9th place after prelims and 8th place in finals. Sometimes, you run into a panel of judges who just don't like a show, and I imagine that's what happened. That's the only thing that makes sense.

I'm a clarinet at PC, and tbh I was NOT expecting to place so high last night. It was tons of fun, and jesus christ my legs and knees hurt from all the walking around the stadium, but yay state!!

Happy for you!

and yes, that stadium is a beast to walk around!

I'm from Southwest and we really felt like we got butchered with our scoring too, I'm not complaining about not making finals but that was definitely better than 16th even our director was taken back with the 16th place we got after the run we had, and our scoring was quite inconsistent so that makes it harder to know exactly what happened, sometimes it feels like the judges just throw a random score down when they aren't sure, one judge has us at 9 musically and another had us at 20, while visually we had 13 and 23, just a little jarring.

Agreed. Fine band, but not a state finalist, not last night anyway...again, thats how it goes, bands have off nights when otherwise they are usually really good, but you judge based on THAT performance, and that was not a #3 band, but i also didnt think they placed ANYONE from 3rd on correctly...CS and PS were on next level so they deserve 1 and 2, but, nothing anyone can do about it now..not stirring up controversy but i told my wife before they announced  the state finalists that their was no way Aubrey doesn't make it with Aubreys superintendent and UIL Area B official handing out the plaques...maybe I'm just being a crybaby tho hahaha. Regardless, congrats to all the bands that advanced! Go get us a title!

Well, I definitely think Sanger should have been in finals, their show was great and they were strong musically and visually.

Man.  4A topics are even spicier than 6A.  I posted this in the 4A Area C thread too.

Just because a band didn't do as well as you wanted doesn't mean you get to come on here and spread baseless and silly misinformation.  Area notoriously produces crazy results every year.  It's no surprise.  Keeping an eye on this topic.......
