Am I the only one here who's mouth was watering over SCV this year? What's wrong with you people?!

Hey, how about Capital Regiment's, too? Did anyone catch that show? That show should have been finals worthy. I think that easily beat out Blue Stars and Crossmen.

The Godfather seemed to be lacking the BD presence I was looking for. I think if they get more power in there, that'll be great, but I just didn't feel it this SA. Maybe in Madison...

I feel the same way, it just wasnt exciting enough for me, and I agree about SCV having an amazing show this year. But I would soil my pants if Phantom somehow gets first place.

One of our band directors, (Kevin Rabon), is the brass caption head at Phantom. He came back for our first week of band camp and left for Atlanta last night I think. I asked him if they had anything crazy to throw in to the show before finals, he said they had a few more tricks to put in the show. However, he wouldn't go in to detail about them... <_<

You know what would be totally badazz? If for finals they dawned the black uniforms one more time. And the hat thing. And the leg thing. All of it.

And lasers and explosons. (Jk, of course, lol)

but yeah, Faust is an amazing show- very possibly my favorite DCI show (musically) out of all of them.

I so think that the all black uniforms would be amazing!!! But kind of risky considering they wouldnt have performed in them yet. But man that would be amazing.

The leg kick will be in for sure.

This IS my new favorite DCI show

Do I have to go on...there is hardly any chance that the PR is going to beat BD this year. Especially with the Cavs in the mix. The Cavaliers has not placed outside of 2nd since the turn of the century. Now that was a long rant.

First off, 96' they split so whats to say it couldn't happen again?

As for number of championships that doesn't mean anything. You could've said USC won the past 2 football natl. champs. and Texas hasn't won one in like alot of years but that didn't stop them from winning this past year, did it?

Look at the kinds of shows the Cavies and BD have put on in the 2000's and the kind Phantom put on. Phantom just trys to play the music and not impress everyone with how they can jazz bounce on the field every year.

All the stats that you threw out have meaning only to those who actually care about those kinds of things.

I DON"T CARE ABOUT STATS!!!!!

I just care that Phantom's show was AMAZING! And the BD show just didn't grab my attention as much.

All i can say is wait for the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MADISON.

Because i don't want to end on a down note. If Phantom used their white uni's for quaters and semi's and then all of a sudden pulled off the black uni's for finals i would cry in amazment. Add the kickout at the end i could see that being the greatest ending in all. The hat fling wouldn't hurt either.

Posted

As good as those stats look for BD, they really don't mean a whole lot.

Its a completley different year, you can't go off of past years. But since you did I may as well too.

Phantom beat BD last year. Who is to say that can't happen again.

And take the Magic for example, not to be rude but they arent exactly the best corps in the worlds. However they made finals in 02 and look at them now. Just saying you cant go off past stats for the current year.

That being said, I love the Blue Devils too so im not trying to put them down or anything im just saying its possible. And if Phantom were to get 2nd i would MUCH rather them beat the Cavaliers then the Blue Devils.

*Oh and I would rather not have the hat fling, its just not that big of a Phantom tradition IMO.

Well...in Division 1-A football there are well over 120 teams. Plus each team is ranked by the BCS system. There is much controversy over this system. Included in the system is various writers who choose a team. Thus making room for biased placements. I am Texas fan--if you want to see my hat (I've had it for well over 6 years--pretty dirty), I will let you to prove that I was a fan before the championship. Anyways---Texas owns anyone...voted this past year as one of the best athletic departments of the past 10 years . So it was an accumulation of excellence...not just a one hit wonder (*cough* Phantom).

So what do you call Rhapsody in Blue last year? And if "jazz bounce" works to win championships (BD with 11, Cavs with 6), then why stop?

Stats are a way of showing who has the most likely chance of succeeding. Phantom show might be amazing in your eyes, not in others.

I know its possible for PR to beat BD...heck it happened last year. All I am trying to point out the likelyhood of BD beating PR.

Ok first off, euro_euph06, were talking about how awesome it would be for Phantom to win, were not saying OMG Phantom will pwn everybody at the World Championship so post like this one:

You make that very apparent.

Cheap shot, considering that even though Phantom has only won once, they have produced a lot of great shows that people love, contrary to the term one hit wonder, which I associate with one good song, (or show in this case) and then they fall out of the spotlight, which hasn't happened to Phantom.

You never know what's going to happen at the World Championship, though yes, you can get a good idea by looking at the scores from the season.

But enough of this, let's just do what Trumpeter07 said

ok I agree with pretty much everything you said with the exception of calling them a one hit wonder. I dont know the most about Phantom but other than 96 theres, 89, 91, 93, 03-05. And if you want to go ahead and count 06 i guess that works.

It might just be built up frustration from over the years because various Phantom fans saying Phantom owns all or Phantom will win this year. All I was trying to show is the statistic possibility that PR will not win. Not to say they dont have a possibility to do it.

That is an opinion that they have had great shows. It is also an opinion that they will win. As it is an opinion that BD will win. We are entitled to our opinions, which is a god-given freedom. Once again, just trying to show the stats throughout the years. Statistics can be used both ways ;). PR is a good corps...no doubt about it. I understand your hoping that they win and everything...no reason to be poopy pants that I spent time looking for things that tried to show something opposite to other's opinion.

Ahhh...I miss these arguements. ^_^

But hey...lets just wait 13 days until Finals. Thats plenty of time for things to change.

Posted

Personally, I am a Cavies fan and I would like to see them win again, but we really shouldn't count out PR or dog them for any reason. Statistics for DCI are rather pointless. Yes, it shows trends, but it won't really prove who will win this year. I mean, if you were to tell someone that the Cadets would become one of the best corps prior to 1983, some people would have laughed at you. Who's to say that PR won't start their own era of success.

That rule of 6 thing is really no more than a coincidence, not gospel that the BD will win. I think PR has a good shot at winning this year. I think knowing that they are that close behind the Cavies and BD will help them push their limits this year and wind up at top.

And yes, we SHOULD definintely wait until Madison to see what happens. For all we know the Crossmen will come out of no where and win :P

Unfortunately, the black uniforms won't work with the show.

Towards the beginning of the show when they are facing backfield, they look like glorious white angels that are protecting Marguerite by keeping Faust away from her.

The black uniforms would ruin that symbolism.

Sadly, your right....

OK, then they can add one of those uniforms you can rip off. After that beginning and somewhere in the middle of the show, they can rip them off, and be a bunch of bad***es playing in black....doing the leg thing...and throwing their horns around.

First off- heck yes, that's exactly what I was thinking.

Secondly, I'm afraid I don't actually know the backsotry of the show here, so yeah.... maybe someone could fill me in?

From the DCI program

"Classic literature is full of characters unsatisfied with what they have and wanting to have it all. The most famous of these is the cautionary good vs. evil tale that forms the backbone of PR's Faust. Even before the production begins, foreboding strains waft forth from the front ensemble, a musical glimpse of the pact the lead character is about to make with the devil. Serge Prokofiev's "Adoration of Vela" from "Scythian Suite'' then sets the stage for the raucous entry of the devil and his chorts creating a swirling cauldron of sinister tension. The slow waltz-like section that follows introduces the calming prescense of the heroine Margeurite. But will she be able to save Faust from the devil- and himself? The driving percussion in "Enemy God" from "Scythian Suite" represents Marguerite's interaction with the devil and his cronies against her best wishes. A cacophony of clashing sounds paves the way for the striking contrast of Franz Bieble's Ave Maria, a rich enchantment of spiritual bliss soon shattered by the crucial battle for the soul inherent in Jonh Corigliano's Piana concerto. Grandiose and uplifting, Mahlers 2nd symphony puts everything in its proper place and order giving hope to all and looking to the future with a renewed sense that evil can- and will- one day be struck from the face of the earth"

I cant freaking belive i just typed all that. Check wikipedia for the actual story if you cant figure it out from that.
