  1. Churchill did that last year for UIL...every band had a piece by him. It turned out well, I suppose, as a preview for the theme of this year's show, though at the time we were all sick of him...I'm not sure how perceptions have changed over the summer/fall.
  2. I would say so, but I've been away for a while =D Who else here hates calculus with a passion!?
  3. We just about always marched, unless there was enough lightning in the region to warrant worry from hte football team...The only time we didn't go on was when the air was crackling around us.
  4. There would be one huge chunk including SA, Austin, DFW and Corpus, and a bunch of smaller pieces on the outer edges that no one really cared about anyways... What kind of nutcase would want to arrange 54 stars on the US flag?
  5. I was wondering...does any one have any suggestion for a full orchestra? I know, I feel way out of season saying this, but its the only thing we've got at my new school! We've got a horrid assortment of instruments...several clarinets and trumpets, a horn, a trombone, an oboe, a bassoon, a flute, a viola, a violin or two... Hopefully more to come later, but if this is the best we've got, what music can you guys suggest? I'm familiar with lots of purely band stuff, but with those pesky strings-and our conductor asked for ideas, which none of us were able to offer up!
  6. Daniel! Pick me...we're easy, since we've got but 9 people in our band as of yet...stupid math/science school... Are we there yet???
  7. Awww...I had to take an exam in every class...we even had to play scales in band! The rule at WC is that only juniors and seniors can exempt anything, and even then only two classes. So, as I'm only a sophomore...
  8. woodwinds...*shakes head and sighs*
  9. Work a lot on "sirens" up and down...that's how we started in middle school (Was that really 5 years ago?).
  10. Oh, ok...that makes sense. I'd never heard that one, but it's logical! **Edit: Hey! Posting this counts! How do you know I wasn't asking just to rack up posts?
  11. I was just looking at my profile, and I noticed that: Total Cumulative Posts 44 ( 0.24% of total forum posts ) BUT Most active in General Off-Topic 89 posts in this forum ( 76% of this member's active posts ) So, I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but it's kind of odd...
  12. There may or may not be...thus the debate between modern physicists/cosmologists. In supertring/M Theory there can be 10 or 11 dimensions, whereas in "bosonic string theories" there must be 26 to make it all work out. Or you could see variations on the manifold theory inwhich there are only 6 or 7. The number of dimension varies widly with the different models of the universe, based on how complex it must be to make everything work out as we know it. However, like in string theory, in many instances you can't see/prove some of them as they are curled up beyond visibility. So with no available evidence, many scientists are skeptical...
  13. Everything that I've read has used the analogy of a 2-D universe, such as ants on a flat surface...the fourth dimension would be like realizing that the surface is shaped into the surface of a sphere. However, I don't think that we could visualize it at all without cutting it down like that...
