  1. For myself, BOA. I like the stiff competition and travelling, lol. But I think everyone has to give UIL some credit for what is trying to do. 1) Lets face it, Texas is a big state and as a big state, we have high schools that do different marching styles (mini drum corps, showband, and military are the three big ones that come to mind). Because of this, the system has to be fair to all of these different styles so don't expect some BOA elements to make their way into UIL anytime soon unless the other styles die out or some division system pops up. You can't judge something that doesn't apply. 2) Someone's going to complain no matter what. 3) For those of us (myself included) that come from marching bands that are based on the mini drum corps style, I would bet that most of have directors that at one time were involved with DCI. So we automatically have a somewhat biased view of UIL because we are molded into what our band does. So don't bash the system too much, you have to give UIL credit for existing this long and putting up with a lot of stuff.
  2. If only people would do that, it would make the world a better place. Although a majority of thieves tend to resell instruments online or sell them at a pawn shop.
  3. Did you read this post: http://www.txbands.com/forums/index.php?s=...ost&p=50980 ?
  4. From the BOA Handbook, list of penalties (items in bold are the sections of the handbook, which can be found at http://www.musicforall.org/Resources/Downl.../rulebook06.pdf): Performers - For inadvertent or apparently unintended persons present in the Performance Field
  5. Recaps for both prelims and finals should be an interesting read.

  9. If marching techique was off, then I can easily see why. BOA takes marching into account. But I didn't see the performance, so I don't know how it happened.
  10. Here is my plate of courses this semester: MWF - Principles of Management, College Math for Aviation TTH - College Sucess, English Composition, Intro to Psychology Distance - Computers & Applications
  11. Just curious, I know they are a few people who are in college that are here and I think they are a few that still check this place out that and are non playing alumni that stop by here. If so, are doing marching band, concert, jazz, etc. and where are you/did you to play? For myself, music is only a club activity here, so I am doing that. No idea what kind of band they plan on making, but at least is something.
  12. Agreed, the "sign up or get shot by a rifle" method always brings people in for some reason... Well, I have been here since '05 and just basically lurked and played the games for a long time till I started posting. I imagine that is what most of the people do here until the marching season starts going and they see their band's name.
  13. I heard something about a percussion director change in the San Antonio area, possibly in NEISD?. Is there any truth to this rumor?
  14. Dry cleaning every week? Ouch, that begins to add up. We have parents that manage the uniforms since we check out and check in our uniforms after every game/contest. Parents to help unload percussion large percussion equipment and props from our truck, but a student crew to handle instruments.
  15. Government, Macroeconomics, and Eng. Lit.
  16. All factors aside, State should be once a year. With all the factors included, just isn't possible. Just so much to factor in that it wouldn't be feasible to do it once a year. Aren't there 1,090 school districts in Texas (I think it is 1,090, I know there are over 1,000 though.) That is at least 1,090 high schools, not counting the fact that the larger districts have more than one high school. So logistically, it would be impossible to coordinate these schools through Area and then State for all classifications once a year. Side note about places for state, besides the fact that the Alamodome is well, a dome, San Antonio is more centrally located than say Dallas or Houston.
  17. New Orleans 14 Chicago 39 New England 34 Indianapolis 38 Just how I wanted.
  18. 2004 BOA Huntsville Show - Raining pouring down, early morning show, buses breaking down, doing three performances in the same day. All the times we travelled and woke up early to do a contest. For this year, same as above, but waking up to do a practice at 6:30am in 50 - 60 degree weather.
  19. My school is doing Wizard of Oz and I am playing in the pit. What is your school's senior musical?
  20. From what I heard, Region 17 had a trumpet play "Mary had a little lamb" in one of the rooms.
