  1. I still stick to what I said. Bell should, and will, win it this year.
  2. Coppell was allowed to advance and, in my opinion, it was the correct decision. Rules are rules. They were reprimanded. That's their punishment. That's the same punishment that has been handed out for years. I don't understand why this issue is still being brought up. Not every crime has the ultimate punishment. Smaller crimes have smaller consequences. That's just how life works.
  3. Yeah, he composes some of the strangest things. But they're usually really pretty interesting and powerful. A heck of a lot of dynamic contrast, for sure. He writes more ppppp and ffffff, and not much inbetween, I'd say lol. But every once in awhile I get on a Mackey hype. It's cool stuff.
  4. Geez. Hopefully a video comes out. I need to see Connally, the Woodlands, and Richland, which I haven't seen. My main two were Rowlett and Georgetown. I never saw Georgetown live but I saw their Area performance on video. And I saw Rowlett live all the time, because we have rehearsal right after them every week in the stadium lol. They deserved to make it this year. It was kind of a confusing year. But there are a bunch of extremely strong bands going, for sure.
  5. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Aggie dominance over the Longhorns is going to end this year.
  6. Yeahh, I always try to pick up one of the harder Class 1's. Last year I played the Lunde Sonata, which wasn't extremely difficult, but it had some pretty rad tempo ranges. And the slower portion of it is absolutely amazing. If you're willing to work a bit, I would definitely suggest it for alto players. It helps with classical tone and vibrato tremendously.
  7. Has anybody gotten started yet? I'm definitely doing the Creston Sonata this year. It's going to be fantastic Any other alto sax players? What's everybody playing?
  8. That is co completely true. Hah. There's a lot of loud dissonance. So, play a wrong note really loud, it sounds wonderful We played an arrangement of "Turbine" in our marching show last year. I've been completely fascinated in his style of composition since. I love "Redline Tango". It's one of my favorites. And I know that I've heard Kingfishers Catch Fire from at least two bands this year.
  9. So, how bout them Longhorns? Gotta give credit to McCoy this season. The Horns are owning. I think the win over Mizzou shocked everybody into believing it. HOOK EM HORNS. Next victim, Tech.
  10. Well apparently Connally was a pretty big surprise. I wish I could have seen their show =/
  11. I agree. The best chance for an upset is Cedar Park. But, alas, I have it: Bell Marcus Cedar Park Marcus and CP are really close this year though. I would expect a wider margin between Bell and Marcus than between Marcus and CP.
  12. My favorite show, absolutely no question, is "Machine". The Cavies were beasts that year. Unbeatable. It was so clean and so creative. Nothing will ever beat it lol. Next in line is "Spartacus" from Phantom this past year. I loved when the Drum Major was killed and another had to take over. GREATNESS. I've been a Phantom Phan ever since I was interested in Drum Corps. They came to our school for rehearsal my first three years in high school. I was pretty upset this year when I found out that their Head DM had aged out. Phantom Phantom Phantom. But "Machine" can't be beat.
  13. Agreed. Bell will win both State and BOA GN, I'm pretty sure of it.
  14. I did see the video of Georgetown at Area, and I absolutely loved their music. The marching looked slightly difficult as well. Didn't they go on first in Area though? That's always disappointing. The judges have so much time to forget how good you were.
  15. I didn't get to see Connally, but I have to agree with the Rowlett one. They're playing was so different this year. Not all loud and massive like usual, but kind of relaxed. It was kind a of a different feel. I liked it alot. And the visual was pretty great.
  16. I'm definitely going to have to say Rowlett. I didn't get a chance to see many of the Area B bands, which is really disappointing. I did see Marcus, Haltom, and Hebron, but we all know that they're State caliber. What do you think?
  17. Ours had a weird variety of ets this year lol. But, I guess since most people consider what our band does slightly unique...it can be expected? We had a sextet with two mellos, a baritone, and three trumpets. We also had a trumpet trio, a quintet with two mellos and three baritones, the timpani and guitar solos, and a mellophone soli. We usually have a few woodwind solos. This year, I guess our director went brass crazy lol. Plus, can you say vocals? A whole lot of vocals this year.
  18. To be honest, I could not stand Marcus at the beginning of the year. We competed against them at Plano East and I thought that they were so stuck up. But we met their Drum Majors at the retreat and they were extremely nice. So I've kind of developed a liking for them now. And their shows are extremely creative, props or no props lol. I think that LD Bell is still going to win it though. Marcus had their year two years ago and Bell is definitely loaded for bear this year. They're producing some massive, overpowering sounds. All without much edge. This is an extremely musically talented group.
  19. I had never actually seen the entire show before Saturday. We saw you guys at Carrollton, but that was extremely early in the season. Anyways, I automatically knew who was going to take Area. The show idea was extremely creative, and I've never seen a band play The Planets on the field. Good luck at State!
  20. Good luck to everybody at State Who does everybody think is going to take 5A this year?
  21. I'm in one of the bands in Area C and I think that they should get to go. They would have won it whether the director ran the soundboard or not. They weren't trying to cheat their way to victory. They were the best band out there Saturday, soundboard issue or not, and I think that they represent Area C pretty darn well. So let's drop the soundboard thing. It was already resolved. They were reprimanded and that should be plenty.
  22. LD Bell is going to win it this year. The Quest is just too good. I don't think Marcus can crack them. Watch for Cedar Park to upset as well. Marcus has to watch their backs this year.
  23. This soundboard issue is ridiculous. Even though I am in Sachse's band, I know that Coppell deserves to be in San Antonio this year. I didn't get to see their Finals performance, but based on Prelims they deserve that top spot in the area. They sounded and marched great. The students had nothing to do with this issue and they marched their butts off. It would be disheartening to be disqualified because of a simple mistake by the band director. They have a great chance to do really well in state this year and I wish them good luck. I hope that UIL lets them off. And I don't say that because I think Rowlett shouldn't be at State. If I had been judging, it would have been: 1.Coppell 2.Duncanville 3.Rowlett Rivalries don't play a part in my support for Coppell. But Coppell should be allowed to advance. No question.
