  1. 93 Star and 98 SCV, just to update my last reply.
  2. because floods are beast why do clouds exist?
  3. Geez. We had 6 baritones and around 10 trombones. We also have a mix of Baritone models [though next year we're slated to get new ones, good thing I graduate before then, right?], we have Yamaha's and Kings, and they're all in really, really terrible condition. It's embarrassing to be seen up close with them, haha.
  4. lol wow srsly? warm up play through whatever you need to warm down i don't even know if i would recommend just sitting there and trying to hit high notes - all you're going to do is ruin your chops, which does nothing in the long run for your playing abilities - in fact i think they would bring down your abilities. technique exercises and lip slurs ftw?
  5. My school only marches Baritones, unfortunately. I would switch to Euphonium in a heartbeat though, quite honestly.
  6. Why are you making such a big deal out of it? You've retold this story about 6-7 times in this one topic alone. Get over the triangles - if it's working then it works, why reinvent the wheel? I don't care to call it playing it safe, I'd rather just say they're playing it smart, plus no one can contend the fact that their show was very clean and very well executed.
  7. When we told the winds to take down their volume about 2-3 weeks prior, we have had percussion balance issues ever since. In order to maintain tonal quality and sound we had to take down our volume, but the percussion just didn't match where we came down to. You win some, and you lose some. Congrats to all the bands that got to state, and more kudos to those that made finals. Correct. UIL appears to be more precision based than anything else - GE doesn't even have a judge or caption in UIL.
  8. I'm just so sick of people generalizing State. Half of you people haven't even BEEN to State. Everything is different - the feel of the ground, the rebound of the sound, the volume of the crowd, the intensity of the stadium itself. You can't honestly expect to compare it to a previous achievement, because it is on a whole different level. How about we talk about State when it happens and leave the predictions to where it's supposed to be - IN THE PREDICTIONS PART OF THE SITE. [note that when I say prediction this involves the arrogant comments you mentioned] Instead - let's talk about the potential of bands, let's talk about marching style of bands, the blend of their sound, the chords they use, etc., etc.. There are so many different and great topics to talk about instead of debating who's going to win.
  9. Well, if you see an asian baritone player from Sherman walk by, you better say hi, because it's probably me. But don't mistake me for my mexican friend - I have short hair and he has long hair.
  10. It doesn't sound nice? Are you kidding? Listen to SCV's Adagio Chord Progression, or Scheherazade, or Send In The Clowns. All of them are beautiful, albeit loud, but still very beautiful and pleasing to the ears. If you don't like them just because there's no woodwinds in it, that's a shallow reason indeed - but everyone is entitled to their opinions. + lol@ernestos "falling off the triangle" comment
  11. Yeah... I hope that if I make SCV that they are understandable with my school schedule. But if not - then all I can do is hope for the best next year, right? But yeah, I'm the Sherman Low Brass SL for the 2nd year. When we got the 16 wheeler it was like a dream come true haha. But with all these new things we've gotten this year it's becoming hard to fit everything on there, so for state we got another 28' trailer to sport, which should solve all of our space problems. What band do you march in?
  12. I don't know how other bands classify their low brass, but here we have just Baritones and Trombones in the low brass with Tubas as their own section. Do any of you other sections have any traditions that you all follow? Here we constantly strive to be the best section on the field and try to be the biggest hard***es ever, haha, but we get along great with everyone.
  13. Somehow I find refuge in the term "band nerd" [or geek]. The fact that I don't waste away my time on material things like shopping, and rather invest into something more productive and something with a fabulous result, all the while being physically difficult in it's own ways, brings me more joy than most other things. Usually when people call me a band nerd in a non-derogatory way, I'm just like, "hah, thanks." But if people mean to be offensive with it, I respond, "Well, and what have you accomplished?" Our football team hasn't made playoffs in the past like 3 years. None of our other sports, clubs, or extracurricular activity come close to the stability and consistency of our band. Be PROUD of what you do, because all that matters is if you think it's amazing, then it is an ultimate personal gain.
  14. 2000[but for some reason when I was watching it with my directors the other day, the trumpets could not tune a note in that show, I believe it was their finals performance] and 2004 SCV. Hands down. Adagio? Sweet dark chocolate. Scheherazade? Badical show concept with beautiful and powerful music. 06 Cavaliers comes in close second. The GE of that show was killer.
  15. Regular office pens, ftw. Apples or grapples, or grapes with apples?
  16. Well, if you have the same idea of judges as my section does, then you'll know that they'll be more than happy and satisfied after a good hearty meal. "Ho, ho, food!"
  17. Yeah, for the few in our band that really has respect for the program we just don't want people going around spoiling it - but sometimes it just can't be controlled. But, who's excited for the Centennial contest saturday?!
  18. Nice man - looks like you have it figured out, haha. I've just always been in love with SCV ever since I first saw their 04 Show Scheherazade. God, that was beautiful - and don't even get me started on Adagio for Strings. It just seems that every years show makes me fall more in love with what they do and what concepts they take on. A couple of my friends on the battery at our school wanted to tryout for Blue Knights because 2 out of our 3 previous percussion directors were Blue Knight alumni, and they were so stoked - but apparently there is a new rule that if you can't attend all of the first week of their summer camps then you cannot be in the corps. Our school gets out after the first week in June so that just completely eliminates any chances of them being in BK. Good thing there is such a variety of corps, eh?
  19. Thanks man. I'm practicing my arse off trying to get most of the exercises [there's a lot more than I thought there would be] down and memorized. I've touched on the etude - but it still needs heavy work. I also need to find a solo piece to perform along with it. But I feel fairly confident, and I think that whatever happens just going to the camp at the least will be a great experience. You going for Scouts?
  20. I'd like to apologize on behalf of the Sherman band for some of what's been going on in the forum. Lots of the underclassmen [and sadly enough some upperclassmen] have been taking some of our achievements and blowing them up in not only ours but other peoples faces. It's getting old for everyone and I hope everyone from our band realizes that. I'll make sure it's addressed - it's getting out of hand, but thanks guys for being patient haha. Good job to all the bands at Area yesterday, it was a blast seeing so many good bands perform. Shout outs to Centennial and Joshua for some really cool show concepts.
  21. The thing is, is that the judge that gave us 6th in marching in Finals was a judge who has seen our show like 3 or 4 times. He knows exactly what to expect from our show, what our sets are supposed to look like, how to define our style, etc., etc. So, off of that we can already assume he will be able to more precisely critique our show instead of a newcomer judge who is learning the ropes of our show. Has nothing to do with favor.
