  1. American Salute Hymn for the Lost and Living Symphony No. 3 by Kozhevnikov (I think thats how you spell it...) Our first year with three grade 5's, its intense.
  2. Well I think there is a great chance they both will reach state. Who else is in area a?
  3. Another twist: Birdville placed higher than seguin in finals at Aledo. I feel for yall at Southwest, its a shame the uil judges didn't let a good band advance. Good luck to Centennial and the rest of Area B in the contest on Saturday, I have a feeling it is going to be a long day... Anybody know what area Azle and Saginaw are in? They beat both Seguin and Birdville at our contest.
  4. I think Cleburne may be able to get a 1 this year and finish off the 20 bands. They looked much better at our contest than they looked last year. But you never know...
  5. Concerning Birdville, they did not march as well as I expected on Saturday at our (Aledo's) contest. Their show lacked intensity (it is based off of percy grainger), which may be a for them problem at area. I am sure they will pull it together, but who knows... the fourth and fifth spot are very wide open. The Colony has a great show, featuring a crazy blend of adagio for strings and more lively, up tempo tunes. They are a VERY solid band, definitely a band to be feared come area. Southwest has a classical show based on music by shostokovich. It was a powerful on field musical performance, though it seemed very lacking in GE and drill design. If marching is cleaned, they will be a great power at area. Juan Seguin show (my favorite 4A show so far) is based off the "pandemonium circus". It has an outstanding GE in my opinion, for the sense of chaos continues throughout, changes in musical feeling happening without warning. They are MUCH better than they were two years ago, and band is also much larger. If they can clean it up, they will be AWESOME... Centennial has already been spoken for, and I know little at all about Boyd and Sherman (who of course is the area B favorite)
  6. But that is not to say that Southwest and Birdville did not do well, I personally think that Southwest was undeservedly not placed in finals( I think they got 11th in Prelims). Southwest was excellent musically, something which may be a deciding factor in the area contest. If they could only march better, who knows? My personal rankings are: 1. Sherman 2+3. Aledo or The Colony 4. Juan Seguin 5. Between Birdville, Centennial, and Southwest (That's the real battle)
  7. STOP THE PRESSES! JUAN SEGUIN IS YET ANOTHER GOOD AREA B BAND. THEY DID AWESOME AT ALEDO LAST NIGHT, EVEN BEATING BOTH SOUTHWEST AND BIRDVILLE IN PRELIMS. Doesn't get any easier, does it, Area B... Oh Yeah, a lot a region 7 bands were there last night, and think they have the great chance to get a lot of 1's at UIL. There may be a chance for 5 area B state bands yet...
  8. Well we are certainly proud of our top 3 finishes in GE (2), Music (3), Guard, and Percussion, but we definitely have much to work when it comes to marching (15 in prelim, 8 in final).
  9. No, we dont have school, our directors in their infinite wisdom (sigh...) planned a night practice on a holiday. Brilliant...
  10. Is your marching director's name Matt Garrett by any chance? He's done a great job with our show and he's supposedly coming out on monday to work with us. I can see he has done an amazing job with yall.
  11. Thanks much, yalls show is gonna be awesome come area when we see each other again, cant wait to see it completed. I am stoked to see birdville and sherman. Sure they're gonna be awesome just like two years ago, gonna be a heck of a fight.
  12. Top four bands were awesome, loved the Sachse show, both Mansfield and Creekview were also great. Though they marched and played incredibly well, I didn't really understand why Wylie won general effect, i guess the idea of their show was over my head... As far as 4A is concerned (i do go to Aledo), cenntenial and the colony are both going to be awesome competition, im exicited about area already
  13. Hey, by the way, we (Aledo) marched all five mvts. of our show last friday, we're excited to see some great bands at TOC. "Universal Dimensions" arr. Mark Higginbotham 1. Creation 2. Existence 3. Metallic 4. Ethereal 5. Warp Speed http://www.markhigginbotham.com/showlistcelestialbodies.html What do ya' think? Reply.. (We changed the name)
