  1. Geographically Kaufman is located between Ferris-Area B and Kemp-Area C. There are huge implications for the competitive balance for C and B depending on where Kaufman goes. Based on state results from last year, if you take out PC and Celina, both areas are fairly balanced in terms of competition with area C maybe having a slight advantage. Area C also gets credit for military bands that earn 1s but don’t compete at area. It will be very interesting to see how this develops.
  2. Kudos to Melissa for doing this. I wonder if they knew that it would sell out so fast. There was obviously a lot of pent up demand for something like this. it looks like there are around 10 state marching contest participants. 4A is going to be really interesting. With state medalists Celina and Panther Creek moving up, there is a real chance there are at least 2-4 bands in this group that are poised to get a top 3 finish at state. It will also be a great opportunity to see how Kaufman is going fit in the 4A picture.
  3. Just curious. Why would the lines change much? Does Kaufman go to C or B? I think B and C were fairly balanced last year with C being slightly stronger. In State Finals C had 3 in finals with one medalist. B had 2 in finals with 1 medalist. At state outside of finals in the very good placement of 11-15 C had 2 and B had 2. C lost 1 medalist a few of others bands to 5A. B lost a medalist plus a few others to 5A. These are the possible leaders based on last year just to illustrate balance. C- Sulphur Springs, NL, Bridge City, Pine Tree, Kaufman (if area C)? Plus a few other strong programs. B- China Spring, Aubrey, Krum, Alvarado, Springtown plus a few othe strong programs. It looks like on paper that C would be slightly more competitive. Is that your argument for change or is it geography or some other reason?
  4. I am not sure that anyone will overtake China Spring in the near future. They seem to be on a different level. Aubrey vs Krum could be the interesting matchup to watch. Don’t count out Gatesville for a comeback.
  5. Enrollment numbers are listed on UIL website now.
  6. It is so calm, peaceful, and quiet this year after area. Judging must have been pretty good. Last year moderators were deleting posts and it got pretty ugly on this forum after the results were announced.
  7. 12 finals spots opens up some interesting possibilities for new faces. Sanger, Godley, Prosper Richland, Kennedale, Brock, other? Who is it going to be?
  8. Had anyone seen Aubrey? It has been really quiet about them. They were #3 at area and had a decent finish at state. Are they going to be able to replicate that #3 finish from last year or do they slide a bit?
  9. China Spring hasn’t missed a beat with the new director. I haven’t seen Panther Creek. It looks like Area B championship just a battle between these two assuming PC hasn’t fallen off. The real interesting battle is probably for 3rd.
  10. There is one thing your top 4 all have in common. Celina, PC, Davenport, Sulphur Springs are closing in on 1300 for HS enrollment. Some may already be at the 5A threshold. It will be an interesting realignment. It seems the large schools are dominating the top spots. Gatesville doing so well with HS enrollment in the 700’s has been impressive. I think Krum is also in the 700’s. North Lamar is in the 600’s .
  11. According to the contest website, Highland Park is no longer listed on the schedule. This could open up a finals spot for another band.
  12. Melissa Showcase Small School results. UIL scoring format 4A and up. 1 Celina 2 Sulphur Springs 3 China Spring 4 Krum 5 North Lamar 6 Farmersville 7 Canton 8 Springtown 9 Robinson 10 Italy (2A)

  14. It looks like the new Prosper Richland HS could be a factor to consider for 4A area B to consider. They are practically a 5A affluent school competing in the 4A classification due to being new. I looked into them briefly from their school website and social media. It looks like their enrollment will be about 1250 mostly grade 9-11. The district allowed seniors to stay at their current school. If you were to factor in a full senior class they would easily fall into 5A. Richland band students will come from from large and successful programs. The middle schools that feed them that also have a big school mindset, affluent population, and great resources. Looking at social media they will have good marching numbers for a new program of around 100 based on pictures but not sure exactly. Bottom line is they could definitely be a factor in area finals and they could stick around for next UIL realignment. I am not sure how the snapshot works counting a senior class not here this year but will be full 9-12 next year. The one positive is Area B only needed two more 1s to get that 6th state slot. I am sure someone has more information. Thoughts?
  15. Just 4A Area B. I didn’t see Panther Creek in any of these.
  16. Hare are some interesting Non-UIL 4A Area B contest matchups. This was a quick compilation from the Non-UIL section of this website is not complete for sure. The Melissa Showcase looks to be really interesting. Feel free to edit or add. Also, The draw order is out and Prosper Richland HS is officially included in Area B. 17. Yes, so basically 15 bands competing for 12 finals spots. That seems to be unbalanced. Still will be a blast to see how these 4A schools shake out.
  18. I know large schools are stacked for this contest but small schools are no slouch. Based on the assumption that no small schools would make finals, It would be epic if they could do a 4 band final for small schools instead of exhibitions. As of 8\13 10 bands 4A and under. 6 making state, 4 state finalists last year. 15 large schools. 12 final spots all probably all going to large schools unless there a few small schools that could sneak into finals.
  19. With the possible addition of Richland, Area B could send 6 to state. Two more first divisions were needed to get to 6 state qualifiers I think. Preseason Guess 1. PC 2. Gatesville 3. CS 4. Krum 5. Aubrey 6. Alvarado 7. Stephenville 8. Robinson 9. Springtown 10. Sanger/Castleberry/Brock
  20. Wasn’t area B only 1 or 2 bands away from getting a 6th spot for advancement to state? We need a couple of more 1st divisions. This area needs at least 6. We don’t get those extra “free” state slots due to military bands like area C.
  21. It is time to start thinking about weather. It looks like Saturday may be a wash out with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecasted all day. Make up day doesn’t look too promising. Hopefully the forecast could improve.
  22. Aubrey and Krum looked REALLY strong from region 2 yesterday. Definitely in the mix for finals.
