mount pleasant has worn hip capes in all of their shows for the past few years, and this has never been an issue also not to seem rude but it feels like youre just trying to find reasons to hate on mp at this point... i think all of the bands in this area have been putting lots of effort to make their shows the best they can possibly be, and honestly the top 5 could be anyone's game (between nm, poteet, wm, lc, and mp) at the end of the day this forum is just opinions, and thats all they are, opinions opinions only hold so much value, and no matter what you or i think, we'll have to wait until november 1 and see what the judges think best of luck to everyone at area!- 369 replies

dont discount mount pleasant, they have had explosive growth over the past few years and are even better this year, and right now i see them as contenders for area c champions especially after their latest run at region the top area c bands are all really good but i think it will be a few years before any of them has a realistic chance at state finals

another concept id factor in is "implicit bias", which is basically subconscious bias formed over years of experience even if this former mesquite director isnt inherently trying to biased and falsify the results, his 10 years at mesquite could definitely impact his perception of the mesquite schools subconsciously, so while they might be judging in good intentions, things could always go wrong when a past director is judging their own schools i do think it would be best for the area if a different judge was chosen, even if the mesquite schools are likely to make state its always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to heated topics like these- 369 replies

you may be right but hopefully this doesnt cause any further issues especially since at area some people might be salty about the results and attribute the "poor judging" to the fact that one of the judges was a past director for mesquite isd this is exactly what happened last year when a rumor arose after area that one of the judges was a past director for poteet, of course last year it was just a rumor but this year its already for the most part confirmed to be true this will definitely cause some issues regardless of whether they are justified or not- 369 replies

from my research it seems steven andre was director of fine arts for mesquite isd from june 2012 all the way until july 2022 not saying this will affect the results in any way but i just wanted to get the facts straight- 369 replies

honestly not too bad, i like their music, and also i think it would be really cool if marshall suddenly locked in and made state since the vid is a guard pov i couldn't make out much of the band's visual aspect but as long as they have some good visuals to go along with their music im excited to see what they can do this year- 369 replies

pre comp predictions 1. mp/north ive always enjoyed mp's shows and i think they have what it takes to make it big this year especially with how much they grown over the past few years although you cant make out much from their recording it looks like they have plenty of visuals so even if some areas lack marching the band is still constantly moving, their show seems very rigorous and if they can clean it well they have a good chance this year north mesquite has been area champions for the past few years, so as long as they didnt have any significant changes within the program they should be able to retain the top 2 3/4. poteet/lakeview poteet has historically been up in the ranks along with north mesquite, and i like their band so i think theyll do good at area again but knows lakeview centennial also made state last year, and from what ive seen from other users they have some big stuff coming, and they have experience marching in 6a so that can also boost their results as well 5/6. west/highland park west mesquite has also been growing over the past few years but the competition is very close so id have to put them about 5th or 6th place simply because the top 4 bands are very good as well. i think anything could happen and they could still break it into state, but from what ive seen so far this is where i place them i havent seen much of highland park so i have no idea what theyre doing but theyve done good in the past so at the very least they could get 6th place or higher if theyve stepped it up from last year 7. kaufman i do think kaufman has some good music but their show last year seemed very easy as a lot of parts were just playing while standing still, then marching during the rests and rinse and repeat maybe theyll prove me wrong but as of now this is where i have them placed 8-10. the rest is honestly up to anyone i never paid too much attention to the lower performing bands in the area so idk much about them i probably got a lot of this wrong so if i made any glaring mistakes or you simply dont agree with my opinion please share your thoughts- 369 replies

I've seen that UIL made some changes to the Area judging system this year, but I'm not sure exactly how it works. Could someone please explain the new system? Could this possibly change some of the results this year, or is the adjudication system pretty similar to how it was last year?- 369 replies

Since this thread is kind of quiet right now without any recent updates, I thought of an interesting topic of debate for this forum: Who do you think will be the next band in this Area to make State finals, and how many years will it take? Will one of the current 5A Area C bands take the spot, or will a new band rise from 4A and dominate this area? Last year, at the state contest, Area C fluctuated between the lows 20s and high 30s, and the state finalist spot typically requires a placement in the high 10s. The last band in this Area to make state finals was Forney, who moved up to 6A in the most recent realignment. Since then, compared to some of the other areas in 5A, we lack a major powerhouse who consistently places very high in the state contest. Over the past few years, however, this Area has been growing at an exponential rate, with bands such as Mount Pleasant who placed last in area back in 2021 now qualifying for the state competition just 3 years later. Personally, I think it will come down to which band can keep up the pace and continue to grow over the years. I still think it will take a few years, but it will eventually happen down the line. What do you guys think?- 369 replies

The Mount Pleasant High School Band's 2025 program is “Beetlejuice”. Musical selections include main themes from Beetlejuice, music by Richard Marx, and original compositions.- 369 replies

I think after last year's results, a lot of bands will be stepping it up to either retain or snag a state spot. This year we could even see another band take the area champion title. This will definitely be a fun season to watch!- 369 replies

This thread needs some love! I was very surprised by the results last year, so I'm interested in hearing some other opinions about this area. What are your predictions for next year, and who are you rooting for to make state? Personally, I really enjoyed Mount Pleasant's show last year, and I'd love to see them advance to the state level again!- 369 replies
