UIL 6A State Marching Contest 2026 (Nov. 9 & 10)
Vegas Band Fan replied to BassistNo1's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
SA sounds like most other larger cities. I live in Vegas. We too have homeless, aggressive street marketers and many smoking weed which is legal in Nevada. I think it’s best just to use common sense as in any city. Nothing I read would keep me away. -
I heard back from the owner of Box5. His comments were borderline condescending. No apologies at all. I had made a comment about some on the HornRank site being upset with their product. He stated that he could care less what a bunch of young people or teens (don’t remember his exact words) on an unmoderated site think about Box5. Guess he doesn’t know it’s not all young people who visit this site and yes it is moderated. He also said that he went to that site and could not find any comments about the issues. Guess he didn’t look long enough. I have disputed part of the season fee paid with Amex. I was willing to let it slide until I received his two emails. I won’t be purchasing next year as BOA has hooked up with Box5 again. I also sent an email to MFA. Crickets to date. I will miss watching the bands but it’s now based on principle.

I congratulated Avon in another post. They did their job. Flower Mound gave the performance of a life time. It just came up a little short in some of the judges opinion. This was by far the most packed finals that I can remember. So much talent on the field. I also posted in several posts that I think GN should be on a four year site rotation. This is not a new subject and others have brought this up before. Nothing to do with sour apples and as I stated before, I don’t have a dog in this fight. I understand MFA’s reasoning that economically it makes sense for their organization to hold GN in one city year after year but I’m not buying that. If the Georgia Athletic High School Association can come to terms with the Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta to hold high school football games then surely MFA could. That could be one site on rotation. Add Indy and San Antonio to the list and then finally choose one more site in the west to place GN on a four year rotation. This would allow many other bands closer to home to attend GN due to costs plus IMHO it also levels the playing field and mixes things up. This will not happen. At least not in my lifetime. I really would like to see U.S Bands gain some traction. Competition can be a good thing. Again, congratulations to all the bands that attended GN. It was a great three days of entertainment.

I think that it’s important to give credit to Avon. They won tonight. Congratulations. Where I have an issue is not with the bands. They don’t make the decisions. It’s the judges and more importantly the way that the bands are judged. Something needs to change. Why is the GE score higher than music? Why are bands allowed to park and blow? If the music is so tough that you need to kneel and play then make changes to the music. BOA is known as the good ole boys network. Reminds me of something else.

I don’t have a dog in this fight as I just enjoy watching bands perform but your comment is ridiculous. Go over to the HornRank boards. It’s full of Hoosiers who look down on other bands if they’re not from Indiana. Case in point….One poster today made the comment that they were going to win it all anyway. We should all be celebrating the hard work that all of these students have put in this year and not trying to tear them down.

I know that it won’t happen for a variety of reasons but I would love to see GN move around to different venues on a rotating basis to mix up the participation. For example maybe the southeast one year, Indy the next and then San Antonio. I can’t see a far west city hosting due to distance/lower participation but at least mix it up a little. Again, it won’t happen but one can dream. 🙂
