  1. 1. What is the hardest piece(s) of band music you've ever played? What instrument(s) did you play it on? Oh for SURE the Polar Express suite, I played it twice, both on 2nd flute. Jupiter is a close second but I love that piece so much, the fun i had playing it outweighs any complaints I have for it. 2. Did you play the piece(s) in high school? College? Or marching band (*cough* Hebron)? Both times I played it have been in high school, first time my freshman year (which was a big slap in the face, making top band my freshman year and being given Polar Express) and now my senior year. 3. What made the piece(s) hard for YOU? What made it hard for the whole ensemble? How was your part significantly harder (or easier) than other parts in the ensemble? The tempo and the runs and the technique made it hard for me. Some sections were easier for me than the rest of my section this year (I also got an advantage being the only flute in wind ensemble to have played the piece before, lmao) but the runs going into the main piece of the suite still kill me. I'd say the flutes have one of the hardest parts in the whole ensemble, but the brass in my band struggled with triplets so take my opinion with a grain (or multiple) of salt. 4. Was the piece(s) musically difficult? Technically difficult? Or both? What made it that way I attached a photo I took of my part in freshman year, those triplets KILLED ME because theres no easy way to do triplets with those notes at 170 bpm, at least none that ive learned!!! Theres also a ~10 measure concert C on the first page that isnt shown, and thats difficult because both times i played this, i ended up being the only flute to play it. like wtf do you mean FASTER!!!!
  2. Happy recover-from-area day! So proud to have been a finalist performer, and congrats to all the bands who advanced to finals and/or advanced to state! Well deserved accolades for both!!! I will say, i send a lot of my love to the Spirit of Saginaw band. I love you guys so much and it broke my heart to see you so devastated after prelims results. But im so proud of you guys nonetheless, see you friday for (my) senior night! The CT flute section loves you, SHS flutes, and we marched our best performance in your name ❤️
  3. Helloooo area-goers! We just now are pulling up, thanks lightning delay (we had several alarms going off at the end of rehearsal this morning, so thats fun!), but were more than ready to put on a helluva show for yall!! Good luck to all the bands about to perform and great show to all those who've performed already!!
  4. Happy Halloween AND Area-Eve!!! Here's to a great prelim run for every band tomorrow and an even better finals performance to those who advance!! Make sure to get lots of sleep (and candy!!!) tonight, and drink water!! See y'all tomorrow!!
  5. Out of curiosity, do we know how many bands they're taking to finals? I've seen some saying that it's 12 and others saying 10, so I'm a wee bit confused on which it is.
  6. Love to see all the predictions! The confidence in CT making finals makes me smile, but it makes me a little weary, too. We just, and I mean just, got the full show on the field, our debut performance of all of it was at Waco this past Saturday. There's definitely some spots for us to improve and areas to clean up, but here's hoping we lay everything out on the field next weekend! Hope every band knocks 'em dead out there, and hopefully y'all are getting loads of rest this week, too!
  7. Congratulations to all the finalist bands!!! Yall worked so hard and I hope everyone has an even better finals run!!! Im headed home from this competition, but I had a blast sharing the kindness and love with yall!!! Knock em dead out there, finalists!
  8. Happy competition day yall!!! Good luck and congrats to bands already there and about to/have just perform(ed)!!! See yall soon, knock em dead out there, bands!
  9. While we wait for the drum majors, who do yall think is making finals today?
  10. happy competition day everyone!!! for my fellow marchers; have a helluva run and knock em dead out there!!!!!! see yall soon!
  11. Ever so thankful my director had the band stay for finals, despite us not making the cut. Every single performance was incredible and the bands I got to chat with a little were super sweet and nice! For my first time seeing FloMo and Hebron and a lot of others, this was a helluva first impression!!!! Great job everyone and good luck to the exhibition performance!!!
  12. Happy contest eve! I'm nervous and so excited for this one! This is the first time I'm getting to see hard hitting bands like FloMo and Hebron. And, even if my band doesn't make finals, our director is having us stay through finals because he wants us to see some really talented bands tomorrow. See yall then!
  13. We thought we had a really good finals run too! Our director did tell us after results that what was holding our show back was that we only performed 2 movements as opposed to the 3 we have learned. We did our best, though!!!
