  1. I really do hope Argyle wins the state marching contest this year (which I do have high hopes!) they’ll be tied once again with Cedar Park with the most wins at the SMBC!!
  2. With overall placements SS has been just right behind Celina all season. In caption judging I’ve noticed that SS doesn’t particularly do well in prelims. In finals, SS usually has one or two caption they end up taking. It’ll really just come down to what their weakness is. It takes one judge to bring one down placements. And I'm going to be honest, I didn’t have high hopes for SS this year until I saw the placements at Melissa. If SS started the season that well not just against Celina but against some outstanding 4A,5A,6A schools then you honestly gotta expect something from them. It’s similar to Krum HS where we all definitely saw their success early on and now they are headed to state for the first time. Although you can’t determine the final moment for a band, we can at least say SS should most likely be taking a medal home this year!
  3. Final Prediction: 1st: Sulphur Springs (hot take but I stand by it. I really have enjoyed their show this season. Especially their brass section!) 2nd: Celina (could they 4-Peat? 1000% I just hope to see SS on top. Although SS hasn’t officially beat them yet. It has been close, you can’t fight me on that) 3rd: Panther Creek (they’re solid, just underwhelming compared to last year imo. They do have some beautiful visuals in their show this year!) 4th: Davenport (Amazing program, I just think they’ll be here since I haven’t seen much on them other than crappy live streams. Guard seems to be bringing that visual effect once again! Love to see it! ) 5th: Calallen (Haven’t seen anything on them but if they bring the same quality they brought last year especially with perc I see them here.) 6th: China Spring (Not my favorite show concept from them but they still have that powerful sound they’ve always had.) 7th: North Lamar (they could place higher, I just think they lack a lot of cleanliness in their music. Their execution in visual could help them score higher than most.) 8th: Canyon (Another solid program, can’t say much on them but cannot wait to see them in person.) 9th: Fredericksburg (With this program being pretty solid and having a good prelims spot I see them here.) 10th: Bridge City (powerful sound, I enjoyed their guard, uniforms and props. Visual could use work but isn’t horrible. Hope to finally see them in finals!) Just outside finals: Aubrey, Floresville, Krum, Pine Tree. (All amazing programs with each having something they do better than others. Also all of them have good prelims spots.) Don’t attack me in the comments, this is just my opinion! I know all bands will do amazing this Wednesday!! It has definitely been an exciting and nerve racking season. With a 3x state champ, multiple returns of finalists and medalists, some new and old faces joining the contest as well. All I know is that every one of these programs have worked their tails off! Cannot wait to see them in action this Wednesday! Good luck to all!
  4. Took a look at the recap. Although I can’t say much since I’m not a judge I am curious of what Chuck Moon’s thoughts were in finals. Especially with lumberton in 12th for music.. Edit: Just saw that he also ranked SS 10th and Farmersville 15th in music for prelims. Now I’m really curious on his thoughts.
  5. I heard SS got 1st place for one of the visuals in finals but not sure if it’s true.
  6. is it just me or does the prelims draw feel somewhat similar to last years prelims
  7. does any know when prelims schedule is coming out? Is there an estimated time for that release?
  8. I see where you’re getting at. I still thinks it’s a little ridiculous having a small finals like that. That’s just my opinion but yours is totally reasonable as well. I just think it should be like Melissa with 4 small school exhibitions and then the finals. Or something similar. Last year in small school finals at royse city there were only 4 bands. Those 4 bands last year could’ve easily made finals in large school finals.
  9. They need to just make one finals for all bands. The D1/D2 thing is honestly dumb. Sulphur and Aubrey could definitely place well against many of those “D1” bands.
  10. I haven’t seen anyone say this but I personally do not think there will be a 4-peat from Celina. I also think the top 5 and honestly top 10 will be one of the craziest we’ve seen. I know this is controversial topic but I did go to the Melissa Contest and also used a bit of past knowledge so take this with a grain of salt. Celina, PC, DPort, SS will most likely be top 4 again. I do think it will be changed up though. It’ll be close, but as of now. I think the gold medal could go to any of these. SS being th least likely but still VERY likely. I can’t judge much on PC or DPort considering I’ve only seen videos (I fell in love with the solos in DPort’s Ballad) but Celina and SS I can judge. Celina’s show was clean but in my opinion, even less entertaining than their prior shows. I was just not impressed whatsoever. SS is always a fun band to watch in 4A but they have more stuff to clean than Celina. I have noticed that after the Melissa contest that SS improves dramatically. (2023: Did not Make Finals at Melissa/One week later qualifies for finals at Princeton but goes to Sunnyvale and win the contest. / 2024: Did not make finals at Melissa / one week later Overtakes Celina in Princeton Finals / gets 1st in prelims of area) They have always been a mile away from Celina at the Melissa contest but this past Saturday they were basically neck and neck for the first time this early in the season. If SS goes on the same trajectory of improving like crazy after Melissa they could and will have Celina on their feet. The pressure will be on both of them this year. One being expected to win yet another state championship and the other being expected to be right under a medal again. I’m not going to watch PC or DPort until the state contest so I will most likely not say much more about them. I do think Calallen will finally get into the top 5 after a long time solely because of their percussion. Watching the Calallen Perc was just insane. They are really talented and their winds are also getting better as well. It’ll be close with them and China Spring. The rest of the top 10 could literally go anywhere. Krum could finally make the state contest but also MAKE THE FINALS. They already proved themselves to surpass 2 state finalists. I still do think the 2 Canyon ISD bands will return to finals. With NL and Gatesville it’ll be a tough one this year. Again, PLEASE take this with a grain of salt. Could this change. 100%. This is just what I’m starting to feel as of where we are now. We will see SS and Celina go head to head once again at Princeton this Saturday. Will it determine the results. No. It will not only show us but both those bands what they are working against.
  11. I saw some say this last week but Krum is really representing themselves amazingly this early on. Outscoring Gatesville (2024 state finalist) last week and now scoring higher than NL at Melissa in prelims (another state finalist) is impressive! I haven’t personally seen their show but from the judges it looks like they are doing some remarkable work in 4A.
