  1. Interesting...heard similar comments from someone in another Area. If I have the story straight, they placed 2nd-3rd (behind Bridgeland in prelims and finals) at Lonestar, Colin McNutt was the judge. Then at UIL Area received a strange 11th place score. Practically the same bands.
  2. Tough break for Grand Oaks, what a jump from last season to this year...solid season. I thought Grand Oaks had a shot at 5th or 6th coming in and they proved me right. Kudos to Oak for tightening things up in time for Area. Stinks about the Aldine DQ. Was a bit disappointed in Area F not really saying anything and keeping that hush. It's already not fair to the kids, so just be up front and honest. Other items that stood out in prelims ordinal land...UIL loves them train shows! Good for Tomball! Great, great season for them. Was hoping for a little more Waldo love! Judges didn't like the Lonestar praised Cain percussion book, odd 11th in percussion (but also worth noting 6th in brass). Praiseworthy jump to 12th for Conroe this season, great first season for Mr. Giddings...sadly another Aldine DQ casualty.
  3. No clue how they finished but I know after prelims it was… 1 Woodlands 2 North Shore 3 Tomball Memorial 4 College Park 5 Klein Oak ———— 6 Grand Oaks 7 Oak Ridge 8 Tomball 9 Klein Collins 10 Klein ———— 11 Klein Cain 12 Conroe 13 Magnolia 14 Spring 15 Magnolia West
  4. Poor Conroe and Klein Cain. Reaaaally really feel for whoever finishes 6th in Finals.
  5. Someone in Area F will get the very first slot at 8:30am. Ugh. Most everyone else is later 1:45, 3:00, 4:15pm. Two very late slots at 7:15 and 8:30pm.
  6. That’s right. Have to be complete in under 8 mins. Announcer starts :45 seconds before they start the “clock”. So if a band thinks they are close to going over, they will pre-show some of their UIL performance to be “safe”.
  7. I think decisions are going to be aggressively made, even if Saturday starts to look "better". Some bands had damaged equipment or lost out on a Finals run and I think the UIL is going to push to the make-up rain day and not repeat last year. Most I think are Monday.
  8. Very good comments here. Again, very excited about the parity this season. Good for Area F! Tomball's train show is cool, I agree! Honestly take all of those bands random number generator for those 5th and 6th spots. Ridge, Oaks, Klein Oak, Klein Collins. I am just glad we have the ability to compete for the 6th State spot this year! The drum book comment on Klein Cain is intriguing, given how Area will be scored this year. Its 25% of your overall score now.
  9. I knew someone would dissect that. I'm sorry, but I'm very much not discounting anyone (read earlier in this thread, I am a believer in this Area!)...everyone is working their booty off. Those top 3-4 bands also welcome the competition. Trust me! Very thankful in the parity of competition this year!
  10. Ah! Hope so, I am all for more competition...these kids work too hard for it to always be the same 3-4 bands.
  11. Incorrect info. If all the Region 9 bands qualify tomorrow, there are 30 bands (so 12 would final and 6 would go to State)...but we need everyone!
  12. ah yes, forgot they shifted around. I will edit!
  13. I'm going to be OPTIMISTIC! We are getting 30 bands to Area and 6 to State! THIS IS THE YEAR! Lets go Collins! Willis! Humble! Nimitz! and MacArthur! 1 The Woodlands 2 College Park 3 North Shore 4 Tomball Memorial _____________________ 5 Grand Oaks 6 Klein Collins (they deserve it after getting 2'd last year at Region on dumb rules) On bubble for that 5-6th spot....Klein Oak, Oak Ridge, Klein Cain, Tomball _____________________ Last bands in for Area finals...Spring, Klein, New Caney
  14. It could happen. They certainly have momentum! Grand Oaks or Collins, both have a legit shot over Oak (who still have drill left to learn on the closer). Interesting prelims draw schedule 27 Oak Ridge, 28 Woodlands, 29 Klein Collins (the dreaded spot after TWHS), 30 Grand Oaks
  15. I stand by this, especially after what I saw at Lonestar.
  16. Yes I know, we barely scathed by with 5 last year (was almost 4)....sad because there are a lot of worthy bands this season!
  17. 30 region bands (including military). 12 would final at area and 6 would make it to state.
  18. I was just looking, i think it may be 12 for a change. 730 Finals start, 1030 finals end...thats 12 slots. EDIT- https://twhsband.org/lonestarpreview/info-for-directors/ Its 12.
  19. I agree with shaken up. Really would be nice if we get 6 bands...but probably will be 5 again. Sigh. But you can make the case that Oak is not completely invincible and any one of Grand Oaks, Tomball, Collins...could be in that 5th (or by slight chance 5th or 6th) spot discussion.
  20. $10 for parking. The extra $10 was for General Effect...
  21. Is Cyfair returning, since it’s their Homecoming?
  22. Ya'll can memorize 70-80 sets, but forget the ABC's? Sheesh...
