đŹ, i definitely donât agree with the fact they would be similar to LT or MN, this isnât a diss to those bands but you just canât compare a 4A to a 5A, an example seen is at Don Hanna, panther creek got 6th and lost to bands like The colony, Mansfield, little elm, and James Martian who didnât really place that high overall in their respective area. Thatâs why as you stated with Anna, despite being bronze medalists they performed poorly in 5A since itâs just such a different environment.

Just checked and youâre right, they do have Wylie listed for that week. Canât really speak to whichever is true or not because I just copied and pasted the list of bands from the Melissa band website lol.

I'm sure that we're gonna have WAY more people than listed, but here's what I think an early top 12 could be for this contest with possible "ranges". 4A looks insane for this show and has all the big guys asides from panther creek because of them sticking to the Plano East contest. I want to wait for more people to sign up before I lock in my prediction however.
1. Lone Star/Argyle/Rock Hill

Ummm when have they dominated this area đ
Just joking but Iâm excited to see if they move up at all, though i expect Wakeland and LS to be fighting for 1 and 2 for a fat minute

Iâd probably guess theyâre gonna go to Wylie, closer and probably wonât be as insane as a lineup as here so theyâd have a better shot at finals.
Will probably be off the list next update if I had to guess, though either one is a good option for them

We're back!!
I have updated the confirmed bands as they currently stand.
Lake Highlands will go to Wylie instead of Melissa.

Now that the website is back up and running, here is some new information for this area.
1. Argyleâs Show Reveal! To my knowledge, they are the only band in this area who has had a show reveal yet. The show is entitled âElysian Fieldsâ. Sounds super interesting!
2. Donât quote me on this, but I do believe that Reedyâs head director is leaving for the head band director position at Wylie. It is really a shame since they seemed to be doing really well, but it will be interesting to see how much this affects the program.

Mr Heuer, the current director at Reedy was my director when I was at Lovejoy! While Iâm leaving did have an impact, he set the foundation for them and while last year didnât go amazing, Lovejoy was still good, and Iâm sure if he is leaving Reedy they will do great if they can find another strong head, and Wylie will be getting one of the best around!!

Even though itâs WAY too early, these are my thoughts going into this new year
Wakeland is going to be on fire after being knocked off the podium at state and Iâm confident that theyâll have a great bounce back especially now that theyâve had time to settle in with their new director
Lone Star will also be taking large leaps this year I can assume. Last year they put together an expertly executed show and I can bet you that this year will be even better. Theyâre going for Wakelandâs first place title and the race is definitely getting closer and closer every year
McKinney North is the jazziest band in almost all of Texas and Iâm 90% sure theyâre confirmed to be doing a jazz show once again next year. They have a recipe for greatness and I have no doubt that it will create another amazing production. Iâm curious if their placement might change this year but Iâm not too sure. Iâve never fully understood how UIL judges score Jazzy and unique shows
Argyle in contrast to MN has been calm, mellow, and clean for the past years and it finally booked them a ticket to state last year. They know what theyâre doing and exactly how to do it so It wouldnât shock me if they took steps up to create a show that still can be cleaned incredibly well but also something heads can be turned at for difficulty
Lebanon Trail has fire in their eyes after being beat to state. The kids at LT are incredibly talented and their band is giant. Theyâve got the skill, the numbers, the sound, the staff, and the creativity to make something even more fascinating than ever done before.
Reedy is my coin toss band, I know very little about them and I know theyâre on year 3 of their new director. They had great placements all year this past season and I can assume theyâll be doing a lot more in the visual aspect of playing now that their full band sound has filled out. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with the reedy band show and I canât wait to see what next year has in store.
Memorial, Heritage, and Liberty are all really small for their 5A division. Weâll see this year how theyâll continue to grow with numbers but thereâs no doubt that these programs are talented. They know whatâs up and their placements show it. I wouldnât count them out of the final conversation due to size and Iâm curious to how these bands will continue to size up to the bigger schools in this area
Walnut Grove is most likely ready to bring it. After 2 years of âshelfâ shows they seem like they might be ready to test the waters of a stronger show. Theyâre also on their 2nd year with a new director much like reedy was last year. Iâve heard quite a bit of how their director led Highland Park to a 1st placement at 5A state in 2019. Prosper schools are notoriously fast growing and really great at band so Iâm beyond curious on what WG has in store for this upcoming year.
Heritage is crazy with their train and Iâm looking forward to seeing if theyâll keep it for one more year. I personally have loved their past two shows and the performances theyâve made with each have been quite the enjoyment. Another Frisco school will definitely bring the heat next year.
Emerson, Melissa, The Colony, Etc⌠didnât get the results they may have wanted last year but they are by no means out of the conversation. Itâs an incredibly deep area and any of those bands could make a feel finals run. Every yearâs a new year and these bands are the ones who have the most to prove.

To everyone performing this weekend I hope all of you have amazing performances! Seniors, for some of you this is your last performance inspire your bandmates and leave it all on the field! Donât leave an ounce of doubt that this was the best performance you have given all year! In order to make finals here you have to give it all that you have. Perfection is what it takes! But no matter what enjoy the moment! Us as audience members will enjoy every performance no matter what!

Bravo to all the RIDICULOUSLY good performances for prelims and finals! I remember going to my first UIL State Marching contest a couple decades ago, and seeing where the activity and groups have gone since then. PURE! EXCELLENCE!
Band kids, parents, and directors are truly amazing people!

Thank you, Lone Star, for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this show!! The growth of this program over the past few seasons has been extraordinary, and this year was no different. Super clean stuff from the WW's going into the opening hit, which was SO powerful!! That ballad has made me so emotional all season long, and today was no different. That trombone soloists were on point all season long, and the whole T-bone choir was just so beautiful. Visually as clean as it could have been, really great work on the cover downs, and a super strong finish. They have become one of my favorite HS marching bands, with the quality of not only the shows but the performers themselves increasing each year. Amazing performance Lonestar!!

Good morning, everyone. Congratulations to Wakeland, LS, MN, and Argyle on advancing to state! Ofc, we all knew that someone was going to get left out, just how competitions work, and this year was no different. I hope everyone at LT is doing okay, Ik it's probably a little hard after making it these past few area comps but do keep in mind now that area is every year, so freshmen, you've still got 3 more chances at state now rather than 1, and this goes for everyone!! Super happy to see Reedy in 6th (Congratulations Mr. Heuer!!!), I'd say I'm a little surprised Walnut Grove wasn't a little higher, but other than that not much to say as I can't really judge since I wasn't there lol. Looking at prelims, not shocked to see TC and Emerson be the first two out, but yeah, congrats to everyone who's season is now over, go get some well-deserved rest, and let's go represent well at state!!

tubaplayer12 reacted to Beanbag52 in UIL 5A Area B 2024
100% agree. This is caused by terrible leadership, stemming from the directors. If any MN kids are in these forums, I would hope you see the comments about this and reevaluate, because that is extremely rude and disrespectful. I know people at LT and how hard they worked this season. It doesnât matter what the situation is, you do NOT cheer at another bandâs misfortune. And props to Argyle and the others who made it to showing some class.
-
tubaplayer12 reacted to tennertrumbow in UIL 5A Area B 2024
there was one thing that really bugged me and some spectators nearby. mckinney north erupting in cheers and applause when LT was announced as 5th place.
while i understand that it obviously meant that they had advanced to state, not one other program cheered- not even argyle, who'd been snuffed of a state spot just one year ago and had finally made it back.
it is my understanding, as was taught by my directors and taught at many other schools, that you do NOT cheer when another band is announced below you. LT placed 5th in this insanely competitive area, so let their accomplishment be recognized, or let their placement one out of state be mourned, either way. you simply cannot burst into cheers and make the celebration of another program about yourself. i think ultimately that lack of maturity and restraint falls upon the directors.
win humbly.

tubaplayer12 reacted to Toasty in UIL 5A Area B 2024
I definitely agree with this prediction, of offense to reedy or other band that are having a great season, but I feel like there are so many reedy kids in this form that skyrocket their band up. Doesnât mean that they canât place that high, just think this might be the most accurate.

tubaplayer12 reacted to zxrzxz in UIL 5A Area B 2024
Yeah no this area is just ruthless, thereâs so many good state contenders and for there only to be four spots is just tragic.
With that being said though, I really think LT and Argyle will win out here for 3rd/4th just because of their history. Thats definitely a disadvantage for Walnuts Grove, theyâve only been here a year. With Reedy (this is very hypothetical as I havenât seen them at all), I think itâs just a little unrealistic for them to beat out some of the top contenders like these after not even making finals last year. But maybe theyâve really kicked it up a notch I donât know. But itâs not impossible, Argyle went from being 8th in prelims to being a solid contender for state in a year.
