I believe most of the highly competitive drum lines do this as well, though not all. I know for sure that Marcus does

Unless we’re talking about WGI, just about every school does their regular show book for Thunder and Lonestar. Naturally these are written to complement the winds vs being the sole attraction.

Really?? Anyone got a count on which finalists/bubble bands DON’T use this type of amplification?? Seems like it would really help the softer instruments contribute to the show

Most do not. Only 3 of the 14 finalists did. It’s totally within the rules and simply a choice. It can actually be pretty challenging to get right and avoid a tinny sounding brass, similar to blending bass synth levels to avoid making it clearly defined as synth and not the winds. It’s an art all of its own.

Not assuming anything on my end and to clarify your assumption, I am not affiliated with any of these bands. It was an observation. And with that being said, I am going to end this conversation and not allow fuel to be added to the fire. Besides, this should be a friendly place for discussions.

Yes this should be a place for friendly discussions. In that vein, maybe consider deleting your not-so-friendly one disparaging a program. If you’re not assuming, let us all know what we don’t know. I firmly stand by my assumption about you, I think it’s pretty solid.

It was a question- and the profile and previous posts would seem to indicate that. So to answer your question, no there was no assumption.

“Would seem to indicate that” sounds like an assumption to me. Not a good look to also trash a program that may have no relation whatsoever to the initial comment, or any program for that matter. I do get where you’re coming from, as long as you’re not barking up the wrong tree. And I’m going to assume you’re a Rouse parent from your posts, if that’s okay.

Wow- are you seriously a VR parent, a sister school parent, trashing another school in your own district over some mics? Rouse has a big sound, with or without the mics. Even with less than 250 people in their band, unlike some of their sister schools. But I haven't seen one Rouse parent on here trashing their sister schools. And why are you so quick to discredit Rouse? Are you jealous? I have watched all of these bands all season. And while I may not like some of the shows I am not going to get on a forum and start trashing them. Rouse has had a very good season. From what I understand they have had a rough last 7 years and they are now at a turning point. And if you truly know what you are talking about, then you would know that Rouse is by no means a "rich" band. From what I've seen those kids have poured their hearts out on the field and have produced a solid, clean and entertaining program for this season. For the record, every band has done something to enhance their sound in one way or another. And I'm pretty sure I was watching every band last night blast sounds  right at the front of the field. So instead of trying to tear down a band program, why not just enjoy the victory that VR had this season.

Has that person identified as a Vista parent that I missed, or are we assuming?

I think we're at a misunderstanding. You had actually commented on my post back in September asking me to call out which parents were making negative remarks on another program, so I'd believe we're on the same page that it's not something that should be done in the stands, speaking negatively of others just to be clear.

The other person wasn't simply stating they have mics, that would be fair commentary. They're pointing out that it's "weird to credit" Rouse for volume if they're mic'd. While pointing out mic use is fine, this is now the second occurrence I've seen where Vista aligned individuals speak negatively on Rouse specifically by pointing out their mic use, which again, a lot of bands use. Even saying their success in volume is tied with money. Even without mics, Rouse has some serious volume, and it's not like the judges can't tell the difference.

So I understand, you claim to have heard a vista person disparage rouse because they have some high level of funds to spend on mics?

Oh, wow. I posted back in September during BOA Austin about audience members (who I didn't want to say were Vista parents/volunteers at the time) talking negatively about Rouse and their mic use. Now it's the end of the season and it seems like nothing's changed, a vista tied individual talking negatively about Rouse volume. I wouldn't be shocked if you were the person I was sitting near at that time, I can only hope it's not a trend in the parents, your complaints are the same lmfao. A lot of programs mic, I'm not sure why Vista people have a reoccurring issue with Rouse's use of them.

I’m not sure why it matters who made the comment of a fact. Either there are mics or there aren’t, it’s not any sort of opinion. It’s like commenting that someone’s’ uniforms are black, so what, either they’re black or they’re not.

Coppell does both a percussion show and their show music during the competition season. I'm pretty sure that their percussion show is way harder than their show music and they likely spend more time on their percussion show. If both were hard it'd be pretty hard to get either one clean by the end of the season.

I definitely agree! If kids are taught that winning is all that matters and about other bands, it promotes trashing other programs. (Probably better way of explaining, but I’ll describe more in the morning).

Yes. I’ve never heard any mention of winning or beating anybody else where I am. The only goals spoken of is to be better than we were the day before. All the people with all the bands have suffered through the same ridiculous heat for hours and hours. While we compete, us band people are all in the same tribe ultimately.

I didn’t name the school I mentioned trashing mine simply because I don’t stoop down to their level. If I name, I risk getting attacked by people who go to the school, and I am a high schooler myself.

In your position, I totally understand. Too bad the adults don’t always follow the model behavior of the students.
