UIL 5A Area F 2023
texastrumpetdad replied to BandNerd07's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I’ve heard the same about midnight being the cutoff…sounds like they need to start by 9:30pm at the latest as long as awards can go past midnight? It might be a 9pm latest start with awards. They probably have about 3 hours of rain time wiggle room throughout the day if needed and still do both prelims and finals. -

Looking at the most recent forecasts I wouldn’t doubt a delayed start and hopefully if they get going by 10-10:30 then they could likely still do both prelims and finals with any luck. 🤞🏻 -

So what would make a band more prepared to perform through the rain? I don’t think any area F qualifying band is uninformed on the weather outlook and somehow gets thrown off guard on Saturday because of it. All the bands are in the same boat going into this. Also, powerhouse schools don’t get to be a powerhouse by letting a little rain get in their way. -

Get them wet? Is this a trick question? -

It would foolish to assume that the previous competitions (whether BoA, US Bands or independent) are irrelevant to this season’s rankings and standings in the area. Yes UIL evaluates with a unique set of variables but historically, shows that are successful at area have had the same success prior to the area competition throughout the season. Also, I doubt Colleyville gets to utilize their indoor field…correct me if I’m wrong. Burleson and Burleson Centennial have indoor football facilities as well and the band very rarely uses them. I know BC hasn’t used theirs this year. 2 reasons…football is always using them AND they’re 60 or 70 yards wide with very little side lines which hinders the ability to rehearse a show. -

I would put Brewer at between 5th to 7th and that’s coming from someone that’s seen all of the Area F’s shows multiple times. -

But who is Granbury going to pass up in the 8 others listed above them? Also, I think Brewer is the band that will likely move up from that list and push Granbury to 10th -

Backup day is Monday Oct 30th at Tommy Standridge Stadium in Carrollton. The issue is the forecast is about the same for Monday. I’ve also heard if they can only get prelims in then there’s a rule that allows them to use the prelim results as the final results for advancing to state due to weather. Don’t know if they would delay start the contest if they thought they could get it started later for a window of time on Saturday to squeeze in the prelims and call it a day. Let’s hope not but I’m sure they would prefer to leave it on Saturday if they can, even if the finals are eliminated. -

My kid had mentioned his director said it would be in prelims score order but I was wanting to confirm with others if they had heard that or something else. -

Does anyone know for sure the finals performance order rules for Area F (5A)? Random draw or is it in prelims score order? I’ve heard that it’ll be in score order, but wanted to see if anyone else has confirmed that. -

What time is finals tonight? -
The judging results posted: https://www.birdvillemarchingfestival.com/festival-results.html The one thing that sticks out is Mr. Cimino’s judging of Colorguard in prelims and Visual Ensemble in finals. Any bias there?? 😂 I think the finals judge got the colorguard placements a little more realistic.

You’re right about that! I just copied off the “official” list and Crowley is misidentified as 5A! So the max is now 24 and only 4 will advance. -

That’s only if all of Region 31 qualifies on Tuesday. which IS possible of course. There are 29 “possible” schools in 5A Area F that can advance. If 25 were to qualify then yes, the top 5 would get advanced to state. Currently these 18 schools have qualified: Aledo Azle Brewer Burleson Burleson Centennial Cleburne Crowley Everman Granbury Joshua Saginaw Arlington Heights Midlothian Midlothian Heritage South Hills Southwest Summit Timberview The remaining schools that need to qualify are: Birdville Colleyville Heritage Creekview Grapevine Newman Smith RL Turner Richland Let’s hope all 7 remaining schools have success Tuesday. -
UIL 5A State Marching Contest 2023

The 8 point difference yesterday between Rouse/Cedar Park and Leander leaves a LOT of room for other bands like Burleson Centennial/Forney/Aledo/Hendrickson/Lonestar to move into that 4th spot. Don’t forget Burleson Centennial was 5th in state in 2019 behind 4th place Rouse with about 50 less band members. This year’s band is leaps ahead of 2019. -

Definitely Burleson Centennial…Forney scored a 77.55 last weekend at the BoA Mid-Cities Dallas Regional and Burleson Centennial was at a 77.4 and right on their heels. Lonestar scored a 77.5. Burleson Centennial should definitely return to 5A finals in 2023. I doubt Richland or Friendswood make finals (no offense to their great programs.)
