  1. if we get support from UTSA - it will be named Rowdy - their mascot - but we are committed to making this happen with our without the UTSA support
  2. So I have seen a number of comments this year about a Texas Trophy for the winner of BOA San Antonio. The Bands of Claudia Taylor Johnson Foundation and the CTJ Band Parents Assc. serve as the host program of the BOA San Antonio Super Regional. While it will not happen this year, the bands of CTJ Foundation has made the request to MFA/BOA to create a traveling trophy similar to the grand nationals eagle (Kevin) Trophy. I hope that we can have this in place for next years BOA San Antonio Super Regional. I have heard a number of suggestions for the trophy to include the "armadillo" and the "road runner" - there is interest in UTSA in sponsoring the Texas Road Runner trophy but I will keep you all posted as this develops. It would be my intent that, that the trophy would recognize the previous winners of BOA San Antonio since it became a Super Regional on November 1st 2003 (FYI - San Antonio was the first Super Regional). those would include the following 2003 - Westfield 2004 - Reagan 2005 - Reagan 2006 - LD Bell 2007 - Marcus 2008 - LD Bell 2009 - LD Bell 2010 - Marcus 2011 - LD Bell 2012 - Marcus 2013 - The Woodlands 2014 - Claudia Taylor Johnson 2015 - Flower Mound 2016 - Flower Mound 2017 - Claudia Taylor Johnson 2018 - Flower Mound 2019 - Reagan 2020 - Cancelled due to Covid 2021 - Hebron once we have support of MFA/BOA, we will create a poll to decide the name of the trophy - including the nickname of the trophy - FYI - the Woodlands is credited with naming the Eagle as Kevin after hosting him in 2013. welcome your thoughts.
  3. so I guess your 60 years of experience makes you part of the "old boys club" - keep us posted on the obituary
  4. I agree to some of your points - it is not about a "old boys club" - it is about tradition. I agree that they need to make changes to accommodate the more "corps style" rather than a military style review and I think that we have seen movement that in the past 5 years thanks to the efforts of Dr. Kent. but it will not happen overnight. Texas has become of the Marching Arts - BOA continues to add events in Texas because of the strength of the programs, BOA SA is the most competitive event outside of grand nats - will they ever get there? don't know - but think that there has been progress in the past decade - but accept the progress in small steps
  5. I was not aware that Reagan had left...? did I miss something? this is a competition that Reagan has owned the last 3 years and 5 of the last 6 years - the past few years they have dominated finals by more than 2 full points or more. Last night Reagan finished 3 in Music, 3rd in Visual, Third in GE and 3rd overall. That is not a knock on the Reagan program - my point is Reagan has never gone away. they are a consistent high level program. how is this "back" when last year they swept this event and had a full 2 point win over CR In 2019 they beat Vandy by nearly a point at BOA SA - and Vandy took the Eagle 2 weeks later. Texas has a lot a great programs with an amazing history and that have fallen on hard times and are working to come back - I do not see Reagan as one of them. Just my thoughts
  6. I would agree, I saw the CR show last week in Austin and was impressed with their growth. I saw the CTJ stadium dress rehearsal last night with props and the new uniforms to include the guard costumes. Love where that show is going. Drill is even cleaner than Tuesdays NEISD Fallfest after making some adjustments based on the adjudicators comments on Tuesday. Can't wait to see CTJ on the field on Saturday and while I am confident they will medal - I believe that medal will be gold. Lets Go Claudia!!!
  7. yes, you are correct - there is more to come. Show is coming slower this year due to the much earlier start to their school year and the impact it had with a shorter band camp. they would normally have the full show on the field for BOA Austin. Tonight's fall fest launched the new show uniforms - similar to 2018 Sea of Love, new plumes and shirts, sleeves and neck scarfs. Guard costumes will be arriving this week in time for BOA Katy - I am looking forward to seeing CTJ, Reagan and Cedar Ridge in Katy as I this those 3 will battle for the top 3 spots.
  8. JL has enough ideas that are "out there" without your help
