  1. It was a bit more than a sprinkle for College Station and Galena Park-they were both soaked by the time they finished. Crosby did get drenched. Mag West had more rain as well. It was definitely not an ideal situation. I also have a great fear that these 4 bands will have to replace a ton of instruments and equipment that shouldn't have been out in that weather. However, as a mom of a student in one of these bands, please don't downplay the fact that these kids went out there and did what they love to do after a day of endless changes, unknowns, and challenges, and they did it well. The attitude among the students was one of overcoming. Most were so ready to perform that I guarantee you that these may have been some of their best performances. It will certainly be their most memorable. I am positive that their directors will have a word or two for UIL.
  2. I don't think that it applies per Area. We just had the Region competition last weekend. The 3 bands that go to Area I all passed through to Area, but the 2 bands that go to Area D did not pass through. That would lead me to believe that it applies just at the Region level.
  3. What is the "automatic advancement rule" that you mentioned? We are in Region 8. Three of the 5A bands (A & M Consolidated, College Station, and Rudder) were just assigned to Area I instead of Area D to try to even out some things several years back. I have never heard of automatic advancement and I know that our bands work super hard for their ratings.
