Yeah, just watching how their director addresses his band reflects an extremely high level of maturity for the entire organization. The student’s excitement made it clear that they are extremely motivated and supportive of working hard to attempt to re-capture the feelings of success they had last year. I have an inkling that this will be a VERY strong year for Vista as well as for Texas marching band as a whole. I’m super excited to observe from an outside perspective as this past year was my final marching season. I’ll still be attached to my band but being detached from the competitive aspect will hopefully give me a better viewpoint to appreciate the art on display.

The musical selections have me very excited and intrigued, much more so than usual for a Leander show. I’m usually skeptical about their music selections for what ever reason but they always knock it out of the park. The mix of many genres such as classical, pop, minimalist, brass band, and film score that bands like Leander, FloMo, and Keller have used recently provides, in my opinion, a more creative and exciting production. Rather than just the same overused pieces of classical music (cough cough *vandy* cough cough *marcus*) :/ Edit: I didn’t even see Vandy’s show reveal before writing this but It basically proves my point...

Don’t get me wrong. I like Pride’s show this year, but when I found out they were using music by Son Lux, I think I set my expectations too high. I really like the props but a lot of the performance isn’t particularly impressive to me (probably because my untrained eye doesn’t know where to look half the time)...I know the best IW groups have a huge influence on weapon work, but I think a flag ensemblance moment is needed. I just don’t think the visual flow is very strong as is. Although, I will say that I think Pride is a nice change from the elegant shows of Diamante and Paramount. It’s definitely more high-energy and creative. Onyx is still my favorite

I definitely agree. I usually see JV guards do shows with reused props, flags, and uniforms from the marching show. So I found it bit odd for the best world guard in Texas to reuse the same idea. Much like BA reusing their Age Of Discovery theme, it loses a bit of that unique magic. -

Wow, from loooing at the scores there seems likes there’s lots of really great groups this year, and Scholastic A looks especially competitive. It’s also really interesting how both Keller groups scored within a point of each other. -

Yeah out of ~130 guards at world championships last year the varsity guard was 6th. The top 5 get automatically promoted to Open Class. Considering they now have two really competitive A class guards, I think the Varsity could definitely survive in Open class. -

Keller had 2 Scholastic A groups make finals and they’ll both probably both score 70+ in finals. That’s crazy right?
