We're in the opposite situation. We have not won a single game this football season, but our band has been getting increasingly good since we got our new director 4 years ago. (I wasn't here.)

Not that I know of. Did anybody see snakes on a plane?

Instruments
Arabella replied to RichlandTuba09's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Oboe, tenor sax. I'm going to learn flute soon, hopefully. Also I'm thinking about saying "what's up?" to the english horn at my school and taking that for a spin. I love learning new instruments. -
I absolutely loved marcus's show. I saw L.D. Bell for the first time ever yesterday, but I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. While it was a cool show, it was definately way too synthesized and I didn't find it visually exciting. I'm not saying I didn't like it though, the music was good. Also I wasn't high up enough to see any forms.

Do you march low reeds?
Arabella replied to lionbc's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
We march two bari saxes, three tenor saxes, and three bass clarinets at Paschal. -
What do your double reeds do?

Yeah, I tried to change it to 11 right after I posted it but my computer was being silly and not letting me do so. -

Wait. That's ten double reed players- eleven if you play (I didn't gather that). You have no idea how jealous I am! -
Oboe! And I really want to learn english horn. I just need to get my hands on one.

The day of competition
Arabella replied to n3rdu5's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Usually, the band hall opens about 3 to 5 hours before we perform, which can change depending on how far away the stadium is.. We warm up about an hour or 45 minutes after the band hall opens, we have our inspection and run through about 45 minutes after for probably an hour, then we load up and go. -

I play oboe and march tenor sax, another one of our oboes plays bass drum in the battery, and our other does pit and has played the solo in our show for the past two years. One of our bassoons marches alto sax and the other is in pit. -
I love marcus's uniforms, the gray looks so classy. Haha paschal's uniforms are so old, and as much as I love them, I wish we would get new ones. You see all these other bands who have the cool power-ranger type uniforms (I'm sure you can figure out what I mean) and we have these really old-school striped ones that make it really obvious when your shoulder's aren't square.

I really enjoy band. The practice is tiring, but the football games and contests are so worth it. The people in my band make it so worthwhile. Also I absolutely love concert season. During marching season I play the tenor sax, but I get to play my oboe for concert season and I love it so much. Plus, by the time concert season starts, I'm usually pretty fed up with not having any free time due to marching band.

Etiquette at competition
Arabella replied to HashBrownJM's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Our directors just tell us to be respectful, don't talk while other bands are performing- the basics. It's really rude of that band to laugh at your band for any reason, unless there was some sort of cute/funny body move or something. We're allowed to cheer all we want if we make finals or something, and we definately do that. -
Absences: Excused vs. Unexcused

I think your dog dying is a perfectly reasonable excuse. I wouldn't be able to concentrate at practice if my dog died and I was stuck miles away from home. I think your director is kind of unreasonable for saying you can't leave when your grandmother is sick in the hospital. Family emergencies should always come first, no matter what.
