  1. I liked Lake Ridge, I thought they performed better than Haltom and should've made finals over them.
  2. Is area finals bottom half random order top half random order?
  3. They did amazing, I watched SGP, and the next three bands after them, and I personally think South did the best in their block.
  4. Heard from the row behind me after SGP’s performance “holy **** they’re so **** good”
  5. I don't believe so, I think they're doing some of the Area's as a practice run for next year, and if it turns out well, they'll continue with streaming all the Area's next go around.
  6. Totally agree. There for a while, the thrill of Area in DFW was how many bands advanced from Region, how many made finals, and how many went on to state. I think UIL did a massive disservice to the DFW bands in the way they split B and C to add on J.
  7. Predictions: 1. Coppell 2. Keller 3. L.D. Bell 4. Southlake Carroll 5. Timber Creek 6. South Grand Prairie 7. Timber Creek 8. Lake Ridge 9 & 10. Trinity/Haltom/Boswell
  8. Official schedule has been posted
  9. They've also been on a pretty noticeable upward trajectory for the past few years. They were 13th at Area last year, and even though the contests didn't use Area style judging, they've been beating bands that beat them last year. Calling that a fluke is disrespectful to the program, and the work that the directors, and kids, have put into the last few seasons. You're allowed an opinion, but there are ways to word things without being rude about it.
  10. And they beat Lake Ridge at the Mansfield contest earlier this season? Every time they've competed with a band they'll be competing against at Area, they've either tied (Keller Central), or they've outright beat them. Lake Ridge, Mansfield, Arlington, Martin, etc., SGP has consistently placed above. That doesn't sound like a fluke to me.
  11. It's so crazy to me, someone who used to compete with Duncanville from 2013-2017, knowing that they were absolutely a lock for state whenever state year rolled around, to seeing them in the bottom half of Area Finals. Same with Berkner and Rowlett. Those three along with Coppell were the Area C state bands every year without fail.
  12. Region 5 - 10/18/25 5A Juan Seguin - 1,1,2 Midlothian Heritage - 1,1,1 Midlothian - 1,1,1 Summit - 1,1,1 Timberview - 1,1,1 6A Arlington - 1,1,1 Bowie - 1,1,2 Cedar Hill - 1,1,1 Grand Prairie - 1,1,1 Lake Ridge - 1,1,1 Lamar - 1,1,1 Legacy - 1,1,1 Mansfield - 1,1,1 Martin - 1,1,1 Sam Houston - 1,1,1 South Grand Prairie - 1,1,1
  13. SGP tied with Keller Central for second place at the Duncanville Invitational tonight. So far, every competition they've been to this season, they've medaled and either placed over or tied with bands they will compete with at Area. I said it before but whatever Mrs. Ross has been feeding the kids in her program is insane. I remember competing at Area and not ever being close to Finals, but I think this year they're truly in contention for a finals spot for the first time since 2006.
  14. Update, Sam Houston also received one's, so all the 6A schools in Region 5 have advanced to Area!
  15. The only 6A Band from region 5 that has not had the scores updated on the music forms website so far is Sam Houston. Every band so far has recieved their ones!
  16. I would be careful with low predictions on SGP, they placed 13th at Area last year, and this season they've consistently beat bands that placed above them last season. They beat Lake Ridge at Mansfield, and beat Mansfield at Midlothian. Whatever Mrs. Ross has been feeding those kids this season is crazy.
  17. Back in the 2010's, I graduated in 2017.
  18. All I know is SGP got second place in finals, and took home GE and Winds in captions.
  19. I know it's still early season, but the Mansfield comp happened, and SGP beat Lake Ridge by a little over a full point. I'm VERY impressed with the performances they've been putting out. I think they're sounding amazing, and I really believe they're going to be stiff competition this season at area.
  20. Same, I really think UIL did a disservice to the bands in DFW. I understand they want to try to equalize the representation across the state, but when you have Area's like B, where it's fairly full to the brim with good bands, it becomes unfair to the programs. I don't think the kids from B,C, or J should get the short end of the stick simply to appease kids in other locations. I think what made specifically B and C so exciting the past couple years is the amount of bands that we had up for finals and state slots, and how intense the competition became because of that. These next couple years are going to intense for the opposite reason, simply due to the fact that multiple state caliber programs are going to get cut because they drained Area B.
  21. It depends on how many bands make it to area. If there are less than 20, 7 will make finals. If 20, or more, 10 will move on to finals.
  22. So GPISD streams their home football games on Youtube, halftime and all, and tonight was the Martin vs. Grand Prairie game, and unfortunately I have to honest in saying that I was not impressed with how Martin sounded on the field. They weren't blended very well, there were a bunch of people sticking out musically, and they just overall didn't sound like they were tuned the best. I know it's still fairly early into the season, and that they're still working on getting used to a new director, but still. Grand Prairie, on the other hand, I was very impressed with. I think if they keep on working, they could very easily get 1's at region, and make Area.
  23. I think they're really clean for this early in the season, and (from my knowledge, I didn't go to the game against Legacy, and since it was away, there was no video of the performance) their first live performance of their competitive show.
  24. I think Berkner, Collyville Heritage, and Lake Ridge will fight it out for top three, SGP, Timberview, and Summit will make finals, as the Mansfield schools typically do well at this contest, and from the performance South gave last Friday, they're very clean for early season. I think Arlington will place in the top ten, same with Midlo and Kennedale, but I don't know who else.
