  1. Here's two of our contest songs we played this year, the ballad I guess wasn't important enough to Jess to upload . Count Bubba's Revenge - Gordon Goodwin: Body and Soul(Not Uploaded) Got a Match? - Chick Corea arr. Mike Bogle:
  2. Are you guys playing all movements of Symphony No. 3? Just wondering lol Newman Smith is playing: Rolling Thunder Molly on the Shore Slavyanskaya It's a pretty fun program, especially because I get to play the death trombone part on Rolling Thunder
  3. So is anybody here going to the TCU festival this saturday?
  4. We usually go to the UTA festival but we aren't this year because our director started our own festival. We were the guest band last year at UTA lol
  5. Yeah I can't wait for TCU. Hope our luck is as good as it was last year.
  6. Well, I think our director wants to feature our trombone section because 4/5 of us went to area and 2 made state. The other two(including myself) were only 1 and 2 away from making state. So, I think ultimately he wants to feature our section and Rolling Thunder seems like the likely choice for that.
  7. Right now we've been reading: "March" from Symphonic Metamorphosis Molly on the Shore Slavyanskaya (Symphony No. 3) But the past two days we started to read Rolling Thunder(I have fun with this on trombone lol) so we may replace the March with this for contest.
  8. I have no idea what our band will be playing this year. The only thing he's mentioned that he wants to read with us is Slavanskaya(*sp*). We read it in years past and it's pretty fun. Last year we played: Easter Monday on the White House Lawn by Sousa Forgot the 2nd piece La Fiesta Mexicana by Reed
  9. Anybody here going to Abilene Christian Univ. January 5th for Area? That's where mine is.
  10. I didn't make this one but I found it pretty interesting! http://www.micromarching.com/show.php?showID=131
  11. Haha yeah they are. We just finished phase II yesterday and I got 2nd, our prodigy child freshman trombone player got 3rd, and his brother(junior) got 5th so we're all going to area in January. Our bass trombone player got 2nd and is going to area as well. For some reason this year the music just wasn't as difficult as it has been in the past for trombone.
  12. This is Newman Smith HS Band 2007 - "Espana" (Music of "Toro" by Key Poulan) This was our last football game of the season with only one day of rehearsal each week for about 3 weeks, so it's not UIL ready but not bad.
  13. A waterfall? We've done a waterfall move every year that i've been at smith. So to me, it's not too uncommon.
  14. This is our show "Medusa" by Key Poulan from last year at Area B Finals. We got 7th which made us alternate to state, the top 5 bands being Marcus, Bell, Richland, Haltom, and Hebron(order may be slightly off).
  15. Just thought i'd post some videos of our jazz band from last year(sound quality is slightly poor due to 1) cafeteria 2) bad camera but you can hear it pretty well): UTA Awards Concert(Early in the Season): More Blues and the Abscessed Tooth - Matt Catingub: Decoupage - Hank Levy: Fatback, Jones and Smith - Dave Zoller: End of Year Concert at our School: Ya Gotta Try Harder - Sammy Nestico: Decoupage - Hank Levy: Georgia on my Mind - arr. Sammy Nestico: Hunting Wabbits - Gordon Goodwin: I just saw that someone had posted Newman Smith sometime earlier in the thread and thought i'd supply some videos. This band has won the UTA festival a few times and the TCU festival a few times.
  16. Yeah, this contest was very competitive. Just as your band did, our band felt pretty solid with our performance and had high hopes of making finals, however when the announcements came, we saw how hard the competition really was. Standing next to hebron during announcements was hard as well because we know everyone(including me) expected them to make finals and it must have been hard to take. I personally love Hebron's show and am looking forward to seeing it again this friday at our game and again the next day at UIL. (I also like Mansfield's show. It was in my top 3 favorite shows at TOC )
  17. Tonight was an amazing contest. Of course my favorite show of the night was Marcus with the giant lady bug and their purely amazing sound, but my other favorite of the night had to have been Richland with "iShow". I thought it was done really well.
  18. Thanks man, are you going to get a chance to go to Arlington on Saturday?
  19. I'm semi-nervous mostly because we added so many new visuals/elements to our show TODAY that I'm just nervous and hoping that we don't forget them all and fold. It will be interesting to see how everything goes down. Good luck to all.
  20. This is going to be a tough contest. Many phenomenal bands. I'm sure there will a few upsets, and a few finalist-worthy bands who do not make the top 10. Saturday is only a few days away so we'll see how everything pans out.
