I do agree that Area C, in the past didn't have the depth of some of the other areas. We have so many truly outstanding 6A bands in the DFW area. It is good to see the entire level of performance in 5A bands being pushed to a new level. The bands from Area C generally aren't the favorites to make finals and truly compete with the bands in Area D. I think the bands advancing to state have a real chance of making finals. I believe Waxahachie and Poteet have made finals before. Wouldn't it be great if two bands from Area D made finals again.

Bands marched last weekend at the Cowboy Stadium. They were very positive about the experience. Maybe having state marching in Jerry's world is great idea! As for 1A students getting a larger audience. I would be SHOCKED if 5A parents and directors stay for any of that competition. They will go out to eat, back to hotel rooms, etc... I think that is a pipe dream.

Whoever was judging prelims in marching was very, very bad. I saw all the bands in finals. Waxahachie was the best, but I didn't see prelims. I liked Poteet's show but the music wasn't spot on. I thought Sherman's show was very good. Never forget that band judging is incredibly subjective.

While I agree, the LISD bands all have great shows, I think it is too early to count out Frisco Wakeland and Waxahachie. I saw them both at BOA Arlington. They both have amazing shows. I can't believe how fast Waxahachie plays and marches their show. They are beautiful on the field. Also, Frisco Wakeland blew me away! Their show is just visually stunning. Wakeland advanced to finals and Waxahachie was 12th against the Marcus/Hebron/Flowermound group. However, I heard that penalties were assessed for leaving the field to slowly and then the directors unhappiness over that penalty. I don't know if that affected their placement. I hope I can go to the 5A state finals this year. It is going to be wonderful to watch!
